In particular, for Hopf Galois extensions we consider approaches from the point of view of quantum torsors (also known as quantum heaps) and Hopf Galois systems, while for some families of noncommutative rings we present advances in the characterization of ring-theoretic and homological properties. Every developed topic is exemplified with abundant references to classic and current works, so this paper serves as a survey for those interested in either of the two theories. Throughout, interactions between both are presented.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43671892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several recent studies indicate possible adverse health effects on humans. This work is focused on detection and adsorption studies of GP and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) on silver-capped silicon nanopillars using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Density Functional Theory with the B3LYP functional was employed for the geometry optimization of ground state geometries and simulation of Raman and SERS spectra of the GP and AMPA. The theoretically calculated and experimentally observed vibrations of GP and AMPA free and attached to the Ag surface exhibited different Raman spectra revealing chemical interactions between the analysed molecules and the metal surface. DFT studies confirmed that the main Ag-GP interaction is with the oxygen from carboxylic and phosphate groups, andfor AMPA the main interaction is via a strong interaction between nitrogen from NH with the metal surface. In order to study the binding behavior, adsorption isotherm analysis between GP and AMPA on silver-capped silicon nanopillars (AgNPs) were performed. Finally, the obtained isotherms for GP and AMPA followed a negative cooperative binding mechanism.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63511075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technique allows to avoid the computation of the exterior intersection points of the elements, which was a key component of the technique initiated by Wachspress. The necessary condition for the existence of the denominator function was established by Wachspress whereas our assertion, induced by the technique of Dasgupta, assures the sufficiency of the existence. Considering the adjoint (denominator) functions for linear approximation obtained by Dasgupta, invariance of the adjoint for degree two approximation is established. In other words, the method proposed by Dasgupta for the construction ofWachspress coordinates for linear approximation is extended to obtain the coordinates for quadratic approximation. The assertions have been supported by considering some illustrative examples.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63511165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rosehip fluffs (RF), rosehip woodchips (RWC), southern beech wood shavings (SBWS), wheat straw (WS), and willow woodchips (WWC) were used as base substrates, and brewing bagasse (BB) as an alternative supplement to wheat bran (WB). Kr was higher in WS-WB and WS-BB for both strains. Experiments in fruiting chambers showed biological efficiencies (BEs) above 40% in WS-BB (both strains) and WS-WB (strain 129). Formulations using RWC or WWC gave BEs under 40%, while those composed of SBWS or RF showed lower Kr and contamination by moulds. Medium-scale fruiting experiments using strain A01 showed the highest BEs in WS-BB and RWC-WB. These results suggest that WS is the best substrate for Pleurotus ostreatus culture, although scarce in Northern Patagonian Andes. Nevertheless, WWC and RWC are suggested as alternative substrates, while BB is cheap and abundant, suitable as an alternative supplement to WB.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63511122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Pasto River (southeastern, Colombia), previous studies reported contamination with this metal at points near tanneries. To establish the role of Bacillus thuringiensis in Cr (VI) reduction in water from Pasto River, experiments were carried out with untreated Pasto River water (treatment 1), sterile Pasto River water inoculated with B. thuringiensis (treatment 2), and unsterilized Pasto River water inoculated with B. thuringiensis (treatment 3). All experiments were conducted in bioreactors with a controlled temperature of 20 °C and constant agitation for 156 h. Samples of 20 mL were taken every 12 h from each treatment to track Cr (VI) reduction levels and to confirm microorganism identity via molecular methods involving denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), restriction enzyme digestion profiles (RFLP), and bioinformatic analysis. Cr (VI) reduction was higher in treatment 3 (99:42 %) as opposed to treatment 2 (76:12 %) and treatment 1 (74:46 %). The molecular identity of B. thuringiensis was determined via sequencing of the 16SrRNA gene, and RFLP assessments in all three treatments revealed B. thuringiensis profiles. Since B. thuringiensis was present in all three treatments trough time, Cr (VI) reduction can be attributed to this bacterium.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63511177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a proposal to rethink about the classification of measuring devices, taking into account the calculations of uncertainty as a decision rule. It is also a base for complete compatibility and harmonization between ISO 17025:2017 and the other standards. To verify this proposal a case study on compression testing machine classification is used. This proposal aims to review classification criteria for these machines. Since the uncertainty value is equivalent to all parameters that may affect the performance of these machines, it is logical and accurate to use it as the basis for the classification. This approach may be employed for the upcoming version of ISO 7500 standard to use the uncertainty value as a base for machine classification.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63511111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Persister cells are a fraction of a bacterial population that can escape antibiotic treatment and are associated with antibiotic therapy failure. In this work, we analyzed persistent cells in planktonic cultures and biofilms using10 K. pneumoniae clinical isolates and four different antibiotic types. The isolates had different antibiotic susceptibility profiles that did not correlate with their capacity to form biofilms. Persister cells were found under all conditions tested, although their population numbers varied depending on the antibiotic used. A larger number of persister cells were found in biofilms than in planktonic cultures. Antibiotic treatment with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole resulted in the largest persister cell sub-population compared with other antibiotics tested, while ciprofloxacin was the antibiotic that produced fewer persister cells. These results indicate that K. pneumoniae clinical isolates vary not only in their susceptibility to antibiotics but also in properties relevant to diseases, such as biofilm formation and persister cell populations.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41593201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Andean high montane areas, after Pinus patula clear cutting, changes in soil pH and litter lead to increased fauna and flora biodiversity. However, the impactof these changes on seed banks remains unknown. The aims of the present study were to understand how seed bank richness, abundance, and composition changes after p. patula clear cutting, and to identify the role of above ground cover, pH and litter cover on these seed bank variations. The study was conducted in three areas with different post-clear cutting ages (0,2.5,4.5 years), a p. patula plantation and in a high Andean forest patch. All these sites were located between 3033 and 3100 m.a.s.l. Seed bank abundance, richness and the number of seeds of the ten most abundant species increased in areas with 2.5 and 4.5 years after clear cutting. Moreover, seed bank composition was different among study areas. These changes were related to increasing above ground vegetation cover and soil pH, and to decreasing litter cover. Seed banks contributed almost exclusively to the recovery of some herbaceous species; were corded only one tree species recruit from the seed banks (Baccharislatifolia) in the forest soils; therefore, the natural regeneration processes may be constrained. Our results high light the need to implement active restoration to accelerate high montane forest recovery in areas previously covered with pine tree plantations.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41711121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We evaluated population variables, habitat use, and threats to medium and large mammals (weight > 1 kg) in the terrestrial part of the Tayrona National Natural Park (Santa Marta-Colombia). We carried out in direct annual observations with camera traps between 2012 and 2017, both in rainy and dry seasons. We estimated the richness, relative abundance (RAI), and functional diversity of the mammals present in the area. We recorded 15 species, distributed in seven orders (Carnivora, Rodentia, Pilosa, Cingulata, Lagomorpha, Didelphimorphia, and Cetartiodactyla), 11 families and 13 genera. The species with the highest capture frequency was Dasyprocta punctata (142, RAI = 0.85), followed by Cuniculus paca (56, RAI = 0.33), Odocoileus virginianus (51, RAI = 0.30), and Cerdocyon thous (41, RAI = 0.24). We observed a marked use and preference of habitat in the seasonal dry ever green forest. This finding coincides with the highest value of functional richness (S1= 293.88) for this ecosystem, probably due to its features, such as green vegetation and abundant water streams. Our results reveal stability of the species richness across the years studied, suggesting good health of the mammal populations in the studied area.","PeriodicalId":39200,"journal":{"name":"Universitas Scientiarum","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44624814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
