The friction-reducing and antiwear abilities of the resulting products as the lubricants for a steel-on-steel contact were comparatively investigated on an Optimol SRV oscillating friction and wear tester. The morphology of the worn steel surface was observed on a scanning electron microscope, while the chemical states of some typical elements on the worn steel surface were examined by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that both the side branch structures and central metals influenced the friction-reducing and antiwear behaviors of the synthetic derivatives as the lubricants, which was related to the different adsorption activities of the organic compounds composed of different organic ingredients and metallic ions on a nascent metal surface. All the synthetic lubricants except for the iron (III) derivative showed increased antiwear abilities with increasing metallic ionic radius. A protective layer originated from the tribochemical reaction together with the adsorbed boundary lubricating layer containing organic fluorine compounds, nitrogen oxide, and Fe3(PO4)2 plays an important role in improving the friction and wear behavior of the steel-on-steel system.","PeriodicalId":391126,"journal":{"name":"Science in China Ser. In the present model, the cellular automaton method for crystal growth is incorporated with a transport model, for numerical calculating of the fluid flow and mass transport by both convection and diffusion. The MCA takes into account the effects of the thermal, the constitutional and the curvature undercoolings on dendritic growth. It also considers the preferred growth orientation of crystal and solute redistribution during solidification. In the transport model, the SIMPLE scheme and a fully implicit finite volume method are employed to solve the governing equations of momentum and species transfers. The present model was applied to simulating the evolution of a single dendrite and multi-dendrites of an Al-3mass%Cu alloy in a forced flow. The simulated results show that dendritic growth morphology is strongly influenced by melt convection.","PeriodicalId":391126,"journal":{"name":"Science in China Ser. The experimental results show that space charge packets are always generated at the anode and move across the sample to the cathode regardless of the polarity of DC voltage. This paper discusses the migration of space charge packets at 30–40°C, the possible charge resource of space charge packets carriers and trap level of the space charge.","PeriodicalId":391126,"journal":{"name":"Science in China Ser. The expressions of the second-order up to the eighth-order convolution windows in both the time and frequency domains are derived. Their applications in high accuracy harmonic analysis of periodic signals are investigated. Comparisons between the proposed windows and some known windows with the same width shows that, when the synchronous deviation of data sampling is slight, the proposed ones have the least effect of spectral leakage. Therefore, the new windows are well suited for high accuracy harmonic analysis and parameter estimation for periodic signals. The error analysis and computer simulations show that the estimation errors, corresponding to frequency, amplitude and phase of every harmonic component of a signal, are proportional to the pth power of the relative frequency deviation in case of the pth-order convolution window is applied to windowing signal of approximately p cycles. By introducing real time adjustment in sampling interval, the proposed algorithm can adaptively trace signal frequency and lead to less sampling synchronous deviation. The proposed approach has the advantages of easy implementation and high measure precision and can be used in harmonic analysis of quasi-periodic signals whose fundamental frequency drifts slowly with time.","PeriodicalId":391126,"journal":{"name":"Science in China Ser. The results were compared with those from the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method and from the consistent Boltzmann algorithm (CBA). The dense gas flow and heat transfer characteristics were thus analyzed. The results showed that when the gas density was large enough, the finite gas density effect on the flow and heat transfer cannot be ignored, which decreased the skin friction coefficient and changed the heat transfer characteristics on the channel wall surfaces.","PeriodicalId":391126,"journal":{"name":"Science in China Ser. Accurate grinding for TI worm is the key manufacture technology for TI worm gearing being popularized and applied. According to the theory of gear mesh, the equations of tooth surface of worm drive are gained, and the equation of the axial section profile of grinding wheel that can accurately grind TI worm is extracted. Simultaneously, the relation of position and motion between TI worm and grinding wheel are expounded. The method for precisely grinding single enveloping TI worm is obtained.","PeriodicalId":391126,"journal":{"name":"Science in China Ser. The compositions for the formation of coupled eutectic have been discussed at the coexisting with the primary phase in eutectic under directional solidification. Solidification conditions, such as growth rate and composition required for the formation of the primary phase, halo structure and coupled eutectic have been proposed. Numerical calculation results show that no halo structure formed in directionally solidified Sn−Pb eutectic, but in Al−Si eutectic, competitive growth structures of the primary β-Si phase, α-Al halo structure and coupled eutectic (α+β) may exist at the hypereutectic composition between 12.6% and 25% Si. The calculated results of Al−Si eutectic fit in with the reported experiment results.","PeriodicalId":391126,"journal":{"name":"Science in China Ser.
