The simulation results show that the shear stress linearly increases with the increase of the shear rate when the channel width is a constant, implying that the shear viscosity of the gas flow is constant in our simulations, which increases with the channel width. However, as the channel width reaches a threshold, the effect of channel width on fluid viscosity decreases gradually. The slip velocity decreases with increasing the solid-gas coupling strength and the number density of the gas molecules. Interestingly, the shear viscosity of fluid confined in the nanochannels increases with enlarging the component ratio of nitrogen. The particular issue at nanoscale is that the solid-like structure is extremely easy to form at the gas flow boundaries for the nitrogen molecules confined in the parallel-plate nanochannels.","PeriodicalId":39035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials and Structural Integrity","volume":"11 1","pages":"106"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44368302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The porous structure has 20% porosity with a relative density of 0.8. Radiographic examinations conducted on the samples confirmed regular shaped porous structure throughout. Compression testings were carried out on the samples at three different strain rates viz. 7.93 × 10e-5/ sec, 7.93 × 10e-4/ sec and 3.96 × 10e-2/ sec respectively and the nominal stress-nominal strain graphs were plotted with 0.2% proof strength taken as the onset of yield in the structure, the testing revealed an approximately elasto-plastic strain rate sensitive response behaviour in the yield strength as well as plateau region of the porous samples. Energy absorption analysis was carried out up to ≅0.25 strain. The method described in this paper can be used to generate and study different kinds of porous structures.","PeriodicalId":39035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials and Structural Integrity","volume":"11 1","pages":"118"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41532653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Phase I problem of the benchmark highway bridge is considered for this study. The ground acceleration is applied at all supports of the bridge. A comparative study is performed among the passive control strategies for seismic response control of the highway bridge by calculating various evaluation criteria as mentioned in the benchmark highway bridge problem. A parametric study has been conducted to find different parameters of VFD and HDRB. The optimum damping coefficient and velocity exponent are found for VFD and optimum isolation time period and optimum damping ratio are found for HDRB. The passive hybrid control system consisting of HDRB and nonlinear VFD gives better performance for reduction of base shear, overturning moment, displacement at midspan, bearing deformation and displacement at abutment of the bridge. Hence, it can be deduced that the performance of passive hybrid control system consisting of HDRB and nonlinear VFD is better than individual VFD and HDRB control systems.","PeriodicalId":39035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials and Structural Integrity","volume":"11 1","pages":"155"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66767817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, atomistic simulations were applied to study the molecular structure of amorphous SiCN. The atomistic structures obtained by large-scale molecular dynamics simulations agree with current experimental results, and moreover, provide more details on molecular structure. The Si-C bonds generally keep stable proportion for all the three cases, which means the additional carbon tends to form free carbon network rather than Si-C bonds. Si-CN3 is dominant inSi-C/N tetrahedron, and as expected the increase of C content in SiCN tends to form more Si-C2N2 and Si-C3N tetrahedra.","PeriodicalId":39035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials and Structural Integrity","volume":"10 1","pages":"63"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJMSI.2016.079642","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66767924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During drilling operations, the threaded connections are subjected to various external loads, including the load from the unevenness of rock formation at the bottom, impact from the well bore and axial hook load etc. These loads are primarily random, and will cause fatigue damage to the connections during drilling operation. In this paper, a standard 4.5\" API line pipe threaded connection is analysed to investigate the fatigue effect of the random loads. A static stress analysis is first conducted considering 'make-up' and 'tensile load' steps. Then modal analysis and random vibration analysis are carried out, with the excitation considered as random. The fatigue damage is predicted using the so called three-band technique based on the stress results obtained. Effects of parameters, such as the random excitation, location of the connection, and friction coefficient, on the fatigue are discussed.","PeriodicalId":39035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials and Structural Integrity","volume":"10 1","pages":"34"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJMSI.2016.079646","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66768029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It introduces the development of a more general boundary scan test system based on electronic design interchange format (EDIF) and Protel netlist which can transfer EDIF netlist file to Protel netlist file. According to the characteristics of EDIF netlist file and Protel netlist file, the design and implementation of a compiler to transfer EDIF to Protel netlist file is presented. The compiler uses Flex and Bison to deal with EDIF files for lexical and syntax checking, error handling, and then according to the rules of Protel it generates the Protel netlist file. The test system can achieve the test and fault diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":39035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials and Structural Integrity","volume":"10 1","pages":"70-80"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJMSI.2016.079641","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66767912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, operators implement LH process with constant velocity which is easy and convenient to realise. However, phenomenon of 'non-uniform deformation' is easily generated along heating path. Internal relationship between temperature field and deformation field under the new technology is studied by numerical simulations. Simulation results show that the new technology can alleviate negative effects of the phenomenon effectively.","PeriodicalId":39035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials and Structural Integrity","volume":"42 1","pages":"99"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJMSI.2016.079640","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66767781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
