The main objective is to apply a mesh convergence methodology, considering a generic hypersonic vehicle geometry with two inlet ramps and capable of flying at 35km altitude and Mach number 7. The analysis is performed by constructing three meshes. Starting from an initial unrefined mesh, the number of elements is increased by a multiplication factor, and, thus, the analysis of the variation of certain properties of the flow at points of interest is performed. {"title":"EFFECT OF MAGNETIC FIELDS ON ELECTRIC ARC WELDING AND SURFACING PERFORMANCE","authors":"Mohammad Matarneh","doi":"10.17654/0973576323043","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17654/0973576323043","url":null,"abstract":"Among the various popular methods to enhance performance of electric arc welding as well as surfacing process, involvement of magnetic fields may provide an effective way.  A systematic approach is made in this paper by focusing on experimental work of the influence of magnetic field on the electric arc welding. Similar approach can be extended in handling surfacing quality. Experimental tests were carried with respect to electric arc welding and surfacing of a metal sheet under the impact of external magnetic field. The application of magnetic loading was provided in front part of the weld pool. The applied magnetic field during welding arc process leads to delectation in the arc via electromagnetic force, which acts in the plane normal to the field. The applied magnetic field was kept in the range of 20-30mT and a frequency range from 4-6Hz. The foundry and metallurgy properties were considered in shortlisting solidification mechanism. A detailed discussion is reported with cluster mechanism, wherein impact of metal solidification in weld pool is analyzed. Better surfacing techniques for metals are highlighted with respect to alloys.
