Dry sliding experiments were conducted with pin on disc method with different sliding condition such as normal load (1.5 kg - 3.5 kg), sliding speed (100rpm - 300 rpm) and sliding time (3min - 7min). Wear mechanism map was drawn against sliding condition of normal load and sliding speed which has been utilized to study the dominance of particular wear mechanism that dominates a particular wear regime. Different wear regime such as mild wear, severe wear ultra severe wear was developed by adjustment of contour line of the wear rate map. Various mechanisms such as abrasion, oxidation, delamination, plastic deformation and melting were observed in the worn surface","PeriodicalId":38895,"journal":{"name":"Academic Journal of Manufacturing Engineering","volume":"56 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83349890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two piston bowl configurations (Mexican-hat and Re-entrant) are modeled for the computational flow analysis. The flow characteristics of these engine bowls are examined under transient conditions using STAR CD, a commercial computational fluid dynamics package. The predicted computational fluid dynamics results of mean swirl velocity of the engine at different locations inside the combustion chamber, at the end of compression stroke were compared with experimental results available in the literature. The results obtained showed very good agreement with the measured data given in the literature. This paper discusses the predicted flow structure inside the combustion chamber at top dead center, with different piston bowl shapes at 3000 rpm. It also compares the radial distribution of mean swirl velocity component in the piston bowl for the two cases. It is observed that the Re-entrant bowl provides a higher swirl ratio at almost all locations than the Mexican hat bowl.","PeriodicalId":38895,"journal":{"name":"Academic Journal of Manufacturing Engineering","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85731050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The features that make the polymer composites in industrial applications are the opportunities to tailor their properties with special fillers. For instance, short carbon and glass fibers have been successfully employed to improve the strength and therefore the load carrying capacity of polyamide composites can also be improved Optimization of parameters is an important in the tribological process. Response surface methodology (RSM) based optimal parameter analysis was performed to investigate the change of responses like wear rate (WR) and coefficient of friction (COF) with the change of input parameters to determine optimum setting of process parameters such as normal force, sliding velocity and reinforcement for achieving minimum\u0000WR and COF. The regression model generates the response surfaces. The present study is to optimize the parameter setting for combined responses.","PeriodicalId":38895,"journal":{"name":"Academic Journal of Manufacturing Engineering","volume":"100 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79339530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extruded Mg alloy plates of 6 mm thick of AZ31B grade were butt welded using a solid state, environmentally cleaner welding process, friction stir welding process. The weld specimens were underwent immersion, salt spray, pitting and galvanic corrosion tests in order to quantify and characterize the corrosion rates of the welds with the influence of different pH values, chloride ion concentration and the corrosion time. The corrosion rates, microstructure, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis concludes the optimum parameter for the usage of the magnesium alloy welds for the best service applications.
