Ontology concept similarity calculation is a key issue in these applications. One approach for ontology application is to learn an optimal ontology score function which maps each vertex in graph into a real-value. And the similarity between vertices is measured by the difference of their corresponding scores. The multi-dividing ontology algorithm is an ontology learning trick such that the model divides ontology vertices into k parts correspond to the k classes of rates. In this paper, we propose the gradient descent multi-dividing ontology algorithm based on iterative gradient computation and yield the learning rates with general convex losses by virtue of the suitable step size and regularisation parameter selection.","PeriodicalId":38792,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84510844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is definitely a need to adopt change in the educational processes in order to improve and stay ahead in the business of education. Till date in India, most of the self-financed engineering institutions are considering the performance of top-notch institutions as quality benchmarks and role models in finalising their academic activities. However, they have failed to adopt a strategy to follow a definite quality model. The main purpose of this research paper is to investigate the adoption of integrated educational quality management system (IEQMS) practice to polarise quality education in engineering educational institutions (EEIs) in India from the perspective of a teaching faculty. In this paper, a comprehensive instrument is prepared based on ten critical factors with 113 variables of IEQMS to measure the performance of the institutions. The collected data has been analysed and interpreted by using statistical tools like factor analysis, ANOVA and correlation. Based on this analysis, it is found that the ten critical factors of IEQMS significantly support to achieve quality in EEIs.","PeriodicalId":38792,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85474469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Empirical study diagnoses these processes considering the perceptions of Portuguese National Police [Policia de Seguranca Publica (PSP)] professionals, as well as their motivation and satisfaction levels, main stress sources and repercussions on performance. Quantitative methodology was chosen. The evaluation protocol included measuring scales for stress sources, satisfaction with life, organisational commitment and perception on human resources (HR) processes. Analysis procedures included descriptive statistics, univariable and multivariable comparative analysis and regression analysis. The sample consisted of 146 professionals from six police stations. The analysis led to concluding on the need to perform changes on the human resources management (HRM) processes. Satisfaction with life and organisational commitment relate amongst themselves and inversely with stress sources, with all correlations being affected by demographic variables and by constraints derived from professional activity.","PeriodicalId":38792,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78743418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the concept of average delivery time satisfaction degree, the formulated partner selection problem is interpreted so as to maximise the score of average delivery time satisfaction degree. The model takes into account the factors of average delivery time satisfaction degree, due date, cost and the precedence of tasks. To solve the problem, an improved particle swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm is proposed. Finally, the simulation of a numerical example and comparisons with the standard PSO algorithm demonstrate that the improved PSO algorithm can effectively improve the searching quality, and the method is effective.","PeriodicalId":38792,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86521925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such pre build analysis is made with the help of emulation of machine in virtual engineering environment. The available useful engineering data, from the virtual environment can be used in a planning and decision support tool such as discrete event simulation. Moreover, machine control is enabled to accommodate the variations in production demands, particularly for the energy consumption when it is physically available on the shop floor. A method is suggested to rate the machine in virtual engineering and then fine tune the cycle time in discrete event simulation to articulate the inventory within the mutually deployed stations. The method has been practically applied and tested in an automotive case successfully.","PeriodicalId":38792,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85073120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the selection decisions are complex, there is a need for simple, systematic, and logical methods or mathematical tools to guide decision makers in considering a number of selection attributes and their interrelations in making right decisions. In this paper, we have explored an objective-based multiple attribute decision-making (MADM) method for the selection of plastic manufacturing process. The method uses fuzzy logic to convert qualitative attributes into the quantitative attributes. The procedure has been adapted to rank different process, to quantitatively assist a designer to select a suitable process from a long list for a specific application. A case study of process selection for a plastic moulded automotive fuel tank is used to explain the intricacies involved. The selection is also compared with other graphical methods of decision-making.","PeriodicalId":38792,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75028749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If we do not comprehensively analyse and understand the characteristics of complex product manufacturing projects, we cannot make the decomposition results of a work breakdown structure (WBS) effectively guide the work processes. The purpose of this paper is to develop a research framework for understanding the development and usage of WBS in complex product manufacturing by synthesising theory from project and manufacturing operations management disciplines. This framework must identify how to effectively deliver the information from management requirements to the work process that supports the manufacturing process. To accomplish this purpose, we analyse research in project management and compare the results to characteristics of complex product manufacturing. From this analysis, we design a unique framework of WBS construction and usage in complex product manufacturing and suggest future research directions.","PeriodicalId":38792,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80002488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
