The paper concentrates on the role of policy and organisational structure to contribute and push the solar energy into practice. The analysis of those factors is a key main of the study to understand the linkage of the solar energy and the development. In this regard, the study and analysis of solar energy expansion in India and China are based on the primary data such as the government documentary. Secondary sources such as the information from the international organisation, book, journal, etc. have also been used. The relation between the solar energy and the development in India and China can be understood in terms of energy security and the accessibility to electricity. In fact, the policy implementation of both countries reflects the different result in the action. China has made significant progress in the use of solar energy for national development through employment and increased access to electricity. The different outcomes of both countries are due to the goal and R&D investment, policy, and organisational structure factors driving solar energy development.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41323074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are the cornerstone of most conservation strategies. They protect biodiversity, safe-guard ecosystem health, and provide an array of ecosystem services, such as fresh drinking water, places for recreation and relaxation, storehouses of genetic material, pollination, gas regulation, biological control and providing habitat and refugia for wildlife. In the present article, we have given an account of flow benefits, including employment opportunities to locals and other intangible or non-market benefits, emanating from five protected areas (national parks/tiger reserves and a sanctuary) of Maharashtra state from central India. These benefits have been analysed with the help of collected primary data and available secondary information. We understand that improved governance and appropriate investment in these areas would ultimately lead to maintaining ecological security, food security and finally sustainable development of society in long term basis.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46335270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using multi-temporal Landsat™ images that span 30 years (1986 to 2016), the study employed supervised classification to categorise the land cover into the built-up area, vegetation and water bodies. Findings revealed that the city grew axially along major transportation corridors in the early stage but experienced in-filling, densification and radial outward growth subsequently. The built-up area increased at annual rate of 14.7%, more than the population growth rate of 2.2% while vegetation cover and water bodies recorded an annual change of ‒2.5% and ‒3.5% respectively. Rapid city growth and the resultant land use/cover conversion contribute to the depletion of wetlands and vegetation, thereby constituting a threat to sustainable urban development. Controlled urbanisation is suggested as a panacea to the unsustainable urban expansion which threatens the city's ecological equilibrium.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42854182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in changing times, the ownership of traditional knowledge has not been getting any attention from the Orang Asli. Moreover, their ownership of such knowledge is given impetus by the insistence on monetary value. Based on these concerns, this article proposes to explore the ownership of traditional knowledge and its endangerment among the Mendriq. The data on Orang Asli was collected from the Mendriq tribe in Kuala Lah, Gua Musang, Kelantan, Malaysia through focus group discussions (FGD) and in-depth interview methods. The study found five states of traditional knowledge ownership among participants. First, knowing the name and the nourishment; second, knowing the name and confusing the function; third, knowing the nourishment but not the name; fourth, knowing the name and not the physical form; and fifth, not knowing the name or the function. Those states happen as a result of three factors, namely, individual, community and traditional knowledge per se. However, this study found that monetary value is a prominent push factor for traditional knowledge ownership. This reality has had positive and negative effects on traditional knowledge. To counter that, capacity-building activities for traditional knowledge should be promoted.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45745423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various alternatives trade mechanisms have taken shape that proclaim to link farmers to ethical consumers and connect to sustainable procurement at farm level, which are more effective and make positive contributions towards economic, environment, social and governance dimensions of sustainability. This research paper identifies the dimensions of sustainability at farmer's level through systematic literature review, and examines existing procurement frameworks through integrative literature review. It also does the basmati rice procurement and commodity chain process mapping of existing conventional system as well as procurement through fair-trade system. Authors also collect insights from farmers as well as traders involved in both the procurement systems to develop a framework for sustainable procurement of basmati rice in India to reduce economic vulnerability of farmers, increase environment and social harmony through effective governance.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":"98 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66767413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to test the conceptual framework, the study examines the impact of environmental knowledge on environmental attitudes. In addition, the impact of people's environmental attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control on behavioural intention, which in turn may impact on pro-environmental behaviour, are assessed. Using a Jordanian sample, it is shown that the theory of planned behaviour is applicable in understanding the predictors of pro-environmental behaviour. The findings of this study show that environmental knowledge has a positive impact on environmental attitude. Moreover, environmental attitude, perceived behavioural control, and subjective norms have direct and positive effects on behavioural intention. The results also show that behavioural intention and perceived behavioural control have positive and direct effects on pro-environmental behaviour, which leads to a number of interesting implications for practice, research, and policymakers.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66767478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve that, the firm needs managers with a high level of cultural quotient (CQ). No wonder, such capability has become an essential antecedent of international business success. However, despite its inception in 2003, the subsequent research has been suffering from varying degrees of discrepancy in empirical results, conceptualisations, and measurements. This study starts with an integrative literature review of CQ conceptualisations and measurements. Later, it conducts a fixed effect meta-analysis for a decade of empirical findings. In doing so, the study aims at providing the most accurate account on CQ's dimensional effects on the most tested behavioural outcomes in international business while suggesting a more logical conceptualisation and future directions for a better measurement tool.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66767395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It represents a portion of a wider multidisciplinary research, conducted with the sustainable livelihood approach. A survey was carried out in August 2017, with 237 respondents and a questionnaire with 92 questions. For this article only 15 variables were retained, to analyse the human capital and the relationships with the extension service. Three clusters of respondents have been statistically designed. The farmers' formal education is relatively low, age is high and the awareness about the need for better management is low. The public extension service does not appear to be very effective and participation in its activities is low. Further research is needed to assess which actions and media can be used for improving the attitudes, knowledge and practices related to water management.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66767465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Car dependency is a major concern in developing countries. Endorsing complete streets in any place could improve the sense of security and make people less dependent on cars. The purpose of this study is to develop a ten-point assessment tool to evaluate the neighbourhoods in developing countries. This tool is capable of identifying strengths and weaknesses areas in any neighbourhood based on the complete streets policy. The tool was developed and tested on a traditional neighbourhood in Qatar. The assessment tool was successful in identifying specific and detailed improvement areas in the case study. This tool can be used in the future to investigate new neighbourhoods during the development phase, redevelop existing neighbourhoods, and improve provisions for modes of transport.","PeriodicalId":38780,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Society","volume":"10 1","pages":"225"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJSSOC.2018.096271","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41969941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
