The research is conducted in Brazil over an eight-year period from 2010 to 2017 and uses an unbalanced sample of 153 firms or 929 firm-year observations. The paper uses an OLS panel and a quantile regression as robustness. Our findings show that control-ownership wedge, performance, and corporate governance are determinants of the total value of RPTs. The deviation has a positive influence, showing that the excess of control rights increases the total value of RPTs. On the other hand, performance has a negative effect, showing that less profitable companies have incentives to participate in RPTs. In corporate governance, the relationship is positive, contrary to the expected in the literature. It signals that the corporate governance environment in Brazil has not reduced the total value of RPTs in pyramidal companies. The research contributes to the literature by presenting evidence of an emerging market and relating relevant themes in corporate finance, characterizing the use of RPTs by companies with pyramidal structures.","PeriodicalId":38756,"journal":{"name":"Estudos Economicos","volume":"2017 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135685989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Por outro lado, pode ter repercussões relevantes ao coibir a fraude nas eleições. Avaliamos o seu impacto na participação eleitoral com uma regressão de diferença em diferenças (DID), comparando municípios que aderiram antes ao recadastramento biométrico com municípios que aderiram depois ou nunca aderiram. Abordamos preocupações recentes na literatura com tratamentos escalonados e usamos métodos robustos às tendências não paralelas. Concluímos que o recadastramento biométrico foi bem-sucedido em reduzir o número de registros eleitorais sem afetar a participação de eleitores reais no processo, o que plausivelmente pode representar uma redução na quantidade de eleitores fantasmas nas eleições brasileiras.","PeriodicalId":38756,"journal":{"name":"Estudos Economicos","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135685994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A pesquisa utiliza a análise da rede interfinanceira de depósitos de 2008 a 2019, com dados em nível de firma ou município. Foram consideradas cinco redes para cada macrorregião brasileira. As metodologias empregadas incluem o Quadratic Assignment Procedureg (QAP) e o Propensity Score Matching (PSM) para efeitos de tratamento médio sobre os tratados. Dois cenários são investigados: o mercado observado e uma simulação com a entrada de cooperativas de crédito nas agências bancárias. Os resultados revelam uma relação marginal de competição entre cooperativas de crédito e agências bancárias no mercado de depósitos. Adicionalmente, a entrada das cooperativas nos principais mercados resulta em redução da renda geral das empresas, indicando uma possível barreira à entrada. O atendimento dinâmico é apontado como o fator subjacente a essa barreira, já que as agências bancárias estão mais uniformemente distribuídas nos municípios, enquanto as cooperativas concentram-se em um único posto, em média.","PeriodicalId":38756,"journal":{"name":"Estudos Economicos","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135685997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also performs comparison of profit rates convergence in selected developed and developing economies, using the data for 1973-2003 period. Economy-wide, productive economy and manufacturing rates are estimated and three convergence concepts are considered (beta, sigma, and stochastic convergence). We use a combination of cross-sectional and univariate time series models and density distribution analysis. For each profit rate measure, a strong evidence of beta convergence is provided. In contrast, sigma convergence is indicated only in the case of productive economy profit rate; while in other cases, sigma divergence or the absence of either convergence or divergence are likely. Stochastic convergence is present in a smaller number of economies and is confined to productive economy and manufacturing. The comparison of convergence dynamics in developed versus developing economies confirmed beta convergence in both groups and for their aggregate, but did not establish sigma convergence, given the significant diversity of economies and their different economic trajectories.","PeriodicalId":38756,"journal":{"name":"Estudos Economicos","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135685990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Para tanto, além de recuperar parte da bibliografia atinente ao tema, analisamos, inicialmente, informações decorrentes de 8.840 anúncios de fuga de cativos publicados em alguns dos principais jornais que circulavam na cidade do Rio de Janeiro e cercanias. Tal movimento preliminar foi pautado pela hipótese de que informações relevantes sobre a resistência, a ocupação e a qualificação desses indivíduos poderiam ser encontradas por meio dos anúncios indicados. Tal hipótese foi bem-sucedida e possibilitou a percepção, no âmbito dos recortes temporal e espacial indicados, da importância, da dinâmica e das características das fugas de escravizados; do vínculo existente entre qualificação, recompensa e republicação dos anúncios na mesma ou em diferentes folhas; do fato de que cerca de metade dos escravizados, que tiveram a sua ocupação indicada nos anúncios de fuga, exercerem atividades qualificadas; do fato de que não teria sido a falta de qualificação a razão da marginalização dos ex-escravizados no mercado de trabalho assalariado em formação, a partir do final do século XIX.","PeriodicalId":38756,"journal":{"name":"Estudos Economicos","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135685996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We applied statistical tests to examine the actual extent of service outsourcing in the domestic market from 2010 to 2015. Our results reveal a process of domestic outsourcing marked by the vertical integration of industrial activities and the increased weight of services in industrial subsystems. This process might reflect the reorganization of industrial activities in the 2010-2015 period. The increasing integration of market services into industrial subsystems explains, at least partially, the commonly claimed stagnation of Brazilian industry during that time.","PeriodicalId":38756,"journal":{"name":"Estudos Economicos","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135685995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We find the same effects at the intra- -municipal level in the city of São Paulo. Using geolocation, we associate voting data with number of deaths for the 96 districts in the city. We analyze excess mortality to mitigate underreporting issues and to account for exogenous determinants of mortality, as well as control for age structure and several indicators of socioeconomic vulnerability. The results are significant and indicate the existence of a relationship between votes for Bolsonaro and deaths during the pandemic — between one and five additional deaths per 100k people for each percentage point of votes. Several robustness checks support our findings.","PeriodicalId":38756,"journal":{"name":"Estudos Economicos","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135947889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
