Thus, this paper presents a virtual environment designed to simulate the paralleling process of a synchronous generator to the grid. The designed environment was developed in two interfaces: MATLAB/Simulink, responsible for simulating the system's dynamics such as the prime mover, the synchronous generator and the electrical grid; and LabVIEW, where the synchronization panel was programmed. The virtual environment allows its user to perform and analyse the stages of synchronization as well as its dynamics post-sync. The computer simulations and its interface were designed to offer the closest experience to the real process for its users.","PeriodicalId":386926,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Engineering Accreditation (ICACIT)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125312759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It should be managed as a project and it requires the participation of all faculty members within an academic department and program. In this paper the role of faculty members from the Industrial Engineering IE Department at Universidad Icesi in the Industrial Engineering Undergraduate International Accreditation (ABET) is explained following the Human Resources (HR) knowledge area processes related to the PMBOKR guide. It is important to make a clarification; this approach was selected in order to explain to the academic community how faculty members (team required to support the project) was organized and aligned in order to facilitate the project completion, but is a posteriori exercise. Considering the ABET accreditation initiative as a project helps us to put the international accreditation in language that we as faculty members and administrators would understand.","PeriodicalId":386926,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Engineering Accreditation (ICACIT)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124680675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the different tools offered, from the perspective of the systematic search for efficiency and effectiveness in academic management, we opted to implement a Quality Management System (QMS) based on processes and procedures, where monitoring of indicators was carried out through a Balanced Scorecard, because it addresses most of the perspectives from which the management can be approached that affect the functioning of the University, as well as of its different dependencies derived from the academic area. In this context, the present research provides a proposal for the implementation of a Quality Management System based on processes and monitoring for proper decision making, and its impact on the accreditation process based on the accreditation models of the country, obtaining satisfactory results.","PeriodicalId":386926,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Engineering Accreditation (ICACIT)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125663911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We emphasized that this evaluation should be coherent and congruent with the current development and advent of the most recent technologies. In this manner our proposal of evaluation would consist in a transversal analysis of the different aspects of the capstone project: (i) evidence of innovation in the software and hardware interface, (ii) acceptable link between theoretical model and implementation, (iii) prospective usage (commercial and scientific) of the final prototype, (iv) acceptable cost-benefits ratio, and (v) write-up of paper or final report. From a sample of 25 students, we have calculated the QoE being of order of 53% ± 13%. We have estimated this number in terms of efficiencies and accomplishments achieved inside of the different components of the program of electrical engineering.","PeriodicalId":386926,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Engineering Accreditation (ICACIT)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125205826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimal collaboration between IoNT and IoBNT would result in prospective tools to be used inside of the so-called nanomedicine whose main target might be in the level of the prevention, identification and diagnosis of diseases in their very early phases. We suggest to implement a course in the last year of the program of electrical and telecommunication engineering encompassing the areas and disciplines such as physics, computing, calculus, physiology, nonlinear systems and telecommunications in a coherent manner. We provide a pedagogical example to be implemented in the capstone project with a duration of up to 16 weeks or 4 months.","PeriodicalId":386926,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Engineering Accreditation (ICACIT)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121601008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we respond the question: why do any secondary students prefer mathematics? By applying the center-point triangular whitenization weight functions (CTWF) method, which is based on grey systems theory. A case study was conducted on featured students who were finalists of a Mathematics National Competition (CONAMAT), which was held in Lima, Peru. Eight criteria were studied. The results revealed that for the consulted students the criteria that influenced in their preference by the mathematics were the motivation from students (C1) and the vocation for science or engineering from students (C8). In addition, the criterion the influence of mass media (C6) was less valued, as it does not contribute to motivation and studding of mathematics. The results from this work could help to governments, directors, and teachers to make the best decision on how to improve the motivation and preference of secondary students to mathematics.","PeriodicalId":386926,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Engineering Accreditation (ICACIT)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133653941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
