Kaykhosravi","doi":"10.1109/IAPEC.2011.5779869","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IAPEC.2011.5779869","url":null,"abstract":"This paper introduces a new cost effective structure of a 4-switch single-phase to three-phase converter using a Quasi Z-source (QZs) network for induction motor drive applications. In comparison to the traditional 6-switch structure, the proposed circuit reduces the cost of the system, switching losses and the complexity of the control method as well as the interface circuits used to make the trigger signals. In addition, The Quasi Z-Source network, similar to the Z-Source network uses a unique LC network with added advantages, such as; lower component ratings, reduced source stress, reduced component count and simplified control strategies for Adjustable Motor Drives (ASD) which require large range of gain. By controlling the zero shoot-through duty cycle, the converter can generate any desired output voltage, even greater than the supply voltage. Consequently, the converter is capable of extending the output voltage range, improving the power factor and reliability, reduces line harmonics and provides ride-through ability at the voltage sag interval. The proposed switching technique generates lower voltage total harmonic distortion (THD) in comparison with conventional multi-carrier based pulse width modulation (PWM) schemes, phase-shift (PSHM) and level-shift (LSHM) modulations. To compare the performance of proposed method with PSHM and LSHM techniques, a simulation circuit of seven and nine levels for CMC is designed and simulated. To complete the comparison between the proposed method and PSHM, LSHM the dynamic behavior of dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) based seven-level CMC for power quality improvement is investigated. Since the conversion efficiency of PV arrays is very low, it requires maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control techniques to extract the maximum available power from PV arrays. In this paper, two categories of MPPT algorithms, namely indirect and direct methods are discussed. In addition to that, the advantages and disadvantages of each MPPT algorithm are reviewed. Simulations of PV modules were also performed using Perturb and Observe algorithm and Fuzzy Logic controller. The simulation results produced by the two algorithms are compared with the expected results generated by Solarex MSX60 PV modules. As long as the input admittance is positive at particular resonance frequency, the risk of local instability can be suppressed. In this paper, the virtual resistor concept is employed to obtain the positive input admittance. Impact of double-loop controller using virtual resistor on converter passivity is analyzed by observing the input admittance of the grid connected inverter. The active filter will be connected directly to utility in order to reduce THD of load current, in this case the utility is TNB. The instantaneous power theory also known as p-q theory is used for three phase active filter and this paper proves that the p-q theory can also be implemented for single phase active filter. Since the system has only single phase signal for both voltage and current, thus the dummy signal with 120 º different angels must be generated for input of the p-q theory. The p-q technique will generate six signals PWM for switching IGBT, but only two of the signals will be used to control the switching IGBT. Micro-turbine consists of a PWM inverter to control the injected power to the load. Deploying micro-turbines with Combined Heat Power (CHP) capability make it so interesting to use in distributed generation. Employing DG creates an un-sinusoidal voltage waveform supplied to the load. Hence, a band pass filter is installed to provide acceptable sinusoidal waveform with the lowest rate of THD for 1 MW load. This paper discusses a study to determine optimum operating parameters of a commonly used pwm unipolar inverter. Variations on the input voltage level and switching frequency will be investigated to see their impacts on the operation of the inverter as well as harmonics produced.
