For this purpose, the factors determining energy consumption are analyzed specifically for MIST (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey) countries, for a period covering the years 2000-2022. In the study, population growth rate, balance of trade in goods and services, GDP, foreign direct investments and energy prices are used as factors determining energy consumption. The results show that the total population growth rate and GDP tend to have a positive impact on energy consumption at the 99% confidence level, while trade openness and foreign direct investments variables affect energy consumption at the 90% confidence level, and this balance exhibits a positive interaction. No significant effect of energy prices on energy consumption was detected.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141674522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subjects of this study are electrical energy users who are customers of PT PLN Persero as many as 85,600,000 people, where the variables in this study are endogenous variables, namely the variable integration of renewable energy and business approaches, while the exogenous variable is the improvement of the ability of the Indonesian electricity sector in a sustainable manner, and the moderating variable is the carbon emission mitigation variable, where the results of data analysis are processed through SEM analysis through SMART PLS 3.0 software. From the results of existing research, it is concluded that partially the renewable energy integration variable and the business approach variable affect the improvement of the ability of the Indonesian electricity sector in a sustainable manner and the renewable energy integration variable affects the mitigation of carbon emissions. Simultaneously, the variable of renewable energy integration and business approach affect the variable of increasing the ability of the Indonesian electricity sector in a sustainable manner through carbon emission mitigation as a moderating variable. With the renewable energy integration process we can mitigate carbon emissions in accordance with existing standards, where declining carbon emissions will create the ability of the Indonesian electricity sector in a sustainable manner, where the utilization of the sustainability of the electricity sector's capabilities requires a business approach that can be reached by underprivileged people so that later it can create affordable prices and make people's purchasing power easier, and avoid community losses due to global warming and climate change.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141676213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through comprehensive panel data analysis employing SH tests, CSD tests, CADF tests, D-H causality tests, and robustness checks, we investigate the impacts of these factors on carbon emissions. This study uncovers a positive relationship between digital financial inclusion and reduced carbon emissions, suggesting that access to digital finance can significantly lower carbon footprints. This aligns with prior research indicating that digital finance mitigates the need for traditional banking and paper transactions, thus contributing to environmental sustainability. We also find that remittances have a beneficial impact on carbon neutrality efforts, as they often fund investments in clean energy technologies and sustainable development initiatives. However, the expansion of digital financial services has been linked to increased energy consumption and electronic waste, highlighting the complexity of its environmental impact. Furthermore, our findings underscore the critical role of effective governance in achieving carbon emission reduction goals. Countries with transparent, accountable, and efficient governance systems tend to implement ambitious climate policies successfully. Additionally, technological innovation emerges as a pivotal factor in transitioning to a low-carbon economy, with innovation in clean energy technologies playing a significant role in reducing carbon emissions. Our analysis reveals strong positive correlations among digital finance, remittances, technological innovation, good governance, renewable energy, and carbon neutrality. The study suggests several policy recommendations to enhance sustainability and reduce carbon emissions. These include investing in renewable energy, improving governance practices, leveraging digital financial services and remittances for sustainable development, and fostering global collaboration. By implementing these strategies, countries can make significant strides toward environmental sustainability and carbon neutrality. This research contributes valuable insights into the interconnectedness of digital finance, remittances, governance, innovation, renewable energy, and carbon emissions. It offers guidance for policymakers and stakeholders on crafting effective strategies for sustainable economic development and environmental protection, emphasizing the importance of an integrated approach to achieve global carbon neutrality goals.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141673679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the balanced panel dataset is built for 5 Central Asian countries, namely Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, spanning 2000-2020 with annual data. The results of the Johansen cointegration test and error correction coefficients of VECM and ARDL show a long-run association among the studied variables. Granger causality test shows the causal effect from independent variables to dependent variables, further validating model construction's relevance. According to the ARDL model findings, CO2 emissions, economic development, access to clean fuel, and technology positively impact health expenditure. Threshold regression results reveal that the economic development stage ( ) should be between 2326.36 and 2345.87 USD to increase health expenditure that can rationally respond to environmental degradation. Policy actions like renewable energy transition and enhancing economic development levels are proposed.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141674513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the role of carbon strategies and political connections in enhancing carbon performance remains a subject of debate. Hence, this research examines the relationship between carbon strategies, types of carbon strategies, and political connections with carbon performance in polluting industries in Indonesia. The sample consist of 192 firm-year companies during 2016-2022. This study found: First, a combination of various types of carbon strategies will drive improvements in carbon performance. Second, compensation mechanisms can mitigate carbon emissions excesses. Third, the implementation of mitigation measures through innovation in processes and products can reduce carbon emissions. Fourth, political connections exacerbate corporate carbon performance. The research outcomes contribute to companies by providing insights into mitigation measures that can be undertaken to reduce carbon emissions and promote the achievement of Indonesia's vision of net-zero emissions.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141674666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the interplay between innovation, economic growth, and ecological impact across 18 countries, which collectively account for approximately 64% of global greenhouse gas emissions, using data from 2000 to 2022. Using the structural equation modeling approach, we investigate how the regulatory framework moderates and economic growth mediates these complex relationships. The empirical results reveal that innovation positively impacts economic growth, but this effect is statistically insignificant. Similarly, economic growth contributes significantly to environmental degradation. Moreover, the interaction between innovation and the regulatory framework leads to a decline in economic growth. Furthermore, innovation alone in a direct relationship, reduces ecological impact significantly but innovation and regulatory framework jointly increase ecological impact. Economic growth plays a significant role in mediating the relationship between the interaction term and ecological impact, but it does not significantly influence the relationship between innovation and ecological impact, according to empirical evidence. These insights are vital for policymakers to develop strategies that encourage sustainable growth and innovation.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 32","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141675802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

LEB also describes the welfare condition of a country, where generally developed countries have a high level of LEB. This research will discuss the relationship between the variables of Life Expectancy at Birth (LEB), Corbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions, Population Growth (PG), and Growth Gross Domestic Product (GDPG) in the case of Indonesia from 1950 to 2020. The aims of this study is to build a model of the relationship between variables LEB, CO2, PG and GDPG, and based on the best model obtained then will discuss the causal relationship between variables using Granger-Causality, Impulse Response Function (IRF), and forecasting and the proportion of error covariance decompositions. From the analysis results, the best model that describes the relationship between variables: LEB, CO2, PG, and GDPG is the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The results showed that there is a bidirectional relationship between the LEB variable and population growth. Partially, economic growth is proxied by GDPG affecting LEB and CO2 affecting PG. However, there was no effect of CO2 on LEB and GDPG in Indonesia. Based on the analysis results obtained, the chosen country is encouraged to consider the variables PG and GDPG in an effort to increase LEB in the future.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 43","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141675348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The findings reveal that renewable energy consumption is the most influential variable, contributing to a predicted 67.5% global GDP growth. In contrast, nuclear energy consumption contributes 17.8%, and non-renewable energy consumption contributes 14.6%. Notably, the relationship between nuclear energy consumption and global economic growth is positive; there is a negative relation in conjunction with renewable energy consumption. However, the association with non-renewable energy is consistently fixed. These results suggest that an increased reliance on renewable energy may necessitate a trade-off, potentially leading to a reduction in global GDP growth despite the positive contributions from renewable sources.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141673533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 362 participants with a driving license and living in Bangkok participated in the questionnaire survey. The information on the questionnaire includes their characteristics, car usage behavior, environmental preference, and preference for policies on EV stimulation. The binary logit regression analysis reveals that the number of vehicle possessions, ownership of parking space, the price of EV, and fuel cost per month affect the decision to purchase EVs. On the other hand, being female, income, years of car use, maximum driving range of EV, and coverage area of chargers increase the probability of EV purchase. Environmental preferences have a strong positive correlation with EV purchases. Policies involving personal interest and EV sustainability also positively correlate with EV purchases. However, the extreme ecological perspective has an adverse effect. The analysis of the preferences for policies on EV stimulation reveals that monetary policies are the most preferred choice since the participants prioritize the policies favorable to their benefits.","PeriodicalId":38194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy","volume":" 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141676232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
