Millettia sirindhorniana shares morphological characteristics with M. extensa and M. fruticosa in being a woody climber with the same leaflet shape and inflorescence type. However, it differs from those species by the presence of stipels and basal callosities, and its shallowly crenate floral disk. Millettia tomentosa is similar to M. extensa and M. suddeei, but differs from the first species by having a brachyblast bearing ca 10 flowers, the standard with basal callosities, presence of a tubular floral disk and oblong to slightly obovate fruits; and it differs from the latter by the absence of stipels, the standard with swollen basal callosities, monadelphous stamens and the tubular floral disc. Descriptions, illustrations, colour plates, vernacular names, etymology, conservation status and key diagnostic characteristics are provided.","PeriodicalId":37958,"journal":{"name":"Thai Forest Bulletin (Botany)","volume":"113 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78803979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two species, M. nerviglumis and M. repens, are found with both species being introduced to Thailand. Melinis repens was introduced to Thailand for use as pasture and has become naturalized in all floristic regions as a weed; M. nerviglumis has no record of utilization in Thailand and is recorded from the Northern and North-Eastern regions but was not found during recent field surveys. Morphological descriptions, distribution data, and ecological information are provided; lectotypes are designated for M. bachmannii, M. nyassana and M. villosipes, synonyms of M. nerviglumis. Our literature research enumerated 18 species and six genera, which account for 43% of species and 55% of genera indigenous to Laos, including 13 PKK Area-endemic species (72%) and three PKK Area-endemic genera (50%). The richness and endemism of species and genera of the PKK Area have the highest density in Asia. Most likely, the genera and all nine endemic species of Hydrobryum evolved in the PKK Area. Four endemic species of Hydrobryum are ribbon-like/subcylindrical-rooted and sympatric with foliose-rooted congeners. The evolutionary way is opposite to the early one in the ancestor of the Hydrobryum clade; the 2-way evolution, together with sympatry, is suggested to be non-adaptive. Two species are perhaps polyphyletic in the initial stage of phylogenetic-species transition. The characteristics of the Podostemaceae found in the PKK Area are important in the context of both biological science and conservation.","PeriodicalId":37958,"journal":{"name":"Thai Forest Bulletin (Botany)","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80402304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
