Wiedmann","doi":"10.7203/sjp.25167","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7203/sjp.25167","url":null,"abstract":"lnvestigations at the K/T boundary section al Zumaya, northern Spain, underline the importance of this section in (1) establishing a Maastrichtian ammonite zonation and (2) in understanding \"mass extinctions\" in the fossil record. \"Mass extinction\" at the K/T boundary can be restricted to two groups of oceanic surface plankton, i.e. foraminifera and calcareous nannofloras. Ammonites and inoceramids exhibit a gradual decline through the late Cretaceous, as probably also do the Temperate belemnites and the bulk of involved vertebrales. Most of these groups disappear a long time before the boundary. Compared with the available environmental factors, the course of ammonite diversity through time perfectly parallels the course of global sea leve! changes. Times of high extinction rates (e.g. the era and system boundaries) coincide with times of maximum regressions, while the subsequent evolutionary radiations match with the new sea leve! rise. There is no need for any cosmic catastrophy to explain the decline of most invertebrate and vertebrate groups. oceanic surface at the boundary the following and changes were observed: minor (positive as well as negative) changes in boundary iridium and and changes in and strontium isotopes. these used to the Alvarez hypothesis of a cosmic impact at the boundary. they are easier explosive volvanicity which, on the other hand, might correlate also with the time-equivalen! magnetic reversals. of a series of comet showers. Emig","doi":"10.7203/sjp.25094","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7203/sjp.25094","url":null,"abstract":"La disgregación post mortem de la concha de braquiópodos, bajo condiciones normales, se realiza mediante un proceso de alteración de la matriz orgánica, que depende de la estructura y de la composición de la concha, y un proceso de disolución (y/o recristalización) que depende directamente de las condiciones ambientales locales. Estos procesos son responsables de una pérdida tafonómica con una importante \"infra-representación\" de los braquiópodos y de una débil contribución de la fracción biodetrítica del sedimento. Se han observado cuatro tipos generales de disgregación. Tipo I: concha quitino-fosfática con dos capas (Lingula y Glottidia). degradación muy rápida acelerada por la abrasión mecánica hasta una desaparición total de las conchas vacías en el sedimento (en 2-3 semanas). Tipo II: concha carbonatada con dos capas (Terebratulina). alteración de la matriz orgánica, ablandamiento y total disgregación de la estructura de la concha (en 6-7 meses), aportación en microfibras de calcita al sedimento. Tipo III: concha carbonatada con dos capas de los rinconélidos como Notosaria, no sufre un \"ablandamiento\". La Unidad Rasquera está formada, principalmente, por facies carbonatadas de rampa profunda dispuestas en cinco ciclos granocrecientes y somerizantes. Las especies germánicas son comunes en la asociación aunque algunas especies alpinas, como Duostomina alta y Oberhauserella mesotriasica, son abundantes también. Todas estas, excepto Ps. quadridentatus y C. helbingi, se citan por primera vez en nuestro país, entre éstas, se encuentra un nuevo cánido, Ysengrinia valentiana nov. sp. Su M2 es relativamente corto comparado al de Ysengrinia gerandiana (Viret) y el área protoconal del M1 más reducida. Igualmente, se ha llevado a cabo un estudio acerca de la preservación, basado en una escala que se centra en la resistencia que los diferentes táxones ofrecen a la disolución silícea. Con todo, se han definido una serie de áreas biogeográficas, que ponen de manifiesto las variaciones en paleoproductividad, como consecuencia de la posición del Frente Polar, y la particular dinámica oceánica que rige este área. This locality was placed in the Upper Miocene by severa! authors, but it was placed in the Pliocene by others. The fauna includes a suid, that helps to date the locality. During the long period that the suid was known it has been determined as Hyotherium soemmeringi. Korynochoerus palaeochoerus and Sus arvernensi. It also might represent Korynochoerus provincia/is. The material studied by us belongs to Korynochoerus palaeochoerus. There are four species of importance for dating Alcoy: K. pa/aeochoerus, Dicerorhinus schleiermacheri. Hip· parion gromovae and Hipparion crassum. The first three species are thought to have their last occurrence in MN 13, the last species is thought to have its first occurrence in MN 13.
