Autor ukazuje, že obecné dobro, solidarita a subsidiarita jsou základními prin-cipy sociální nauky církve a jako takové jsou zcela zásadní pro autentické zvládnutí pandemie a přežití jejích dopadů. Hlavním cílem je nastínit alternativní přístup k překonání zhroucení nastalého v důsledku pandemického stavu. Metodologicky text vychází z teoretické herme-neutiky, jež je vlastní humanitním vědám. Vzhledem k neustávajícímu vývoji pandemie autor zcela opomíjí statistickou stránku věci. © 2021. Novotný","doi":"10.32725/cetv.2021.002","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32725/cetv.2021.002","url":null,"abstract":"Contrary to expectations, Zambia, similarly to many other Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries and unlike most high-income Western countries, protected the public health against Cov-id-19 relatively successfully, at least during the first year of the pandemic. How is this possible given the resource-limited health care system, widespread comorbidities, and other adverse conditions in SSA? In this paper we discuss the possible role of religion, philosophy of life, global health approach, traditional medicine, as well as experiences with previous deadly epidemics, that might have contributed to Zambia's public health success. We draw on previous research concerning similar pandemic situations, as well as on current Zambian experiences, including those expressed in media and contained in accessible government records. We take Zambia's approach to be an inspiration for other societies so that it is not only the case that the more developed countries can contribute to the less developed ones, but indirectly also vice versa. © 2021. Sociálni práce ze své komplexní podstaty umožňuje nahlížet na problémy v širších souvislostech, a proto se její perspektiva jeví jako vhodná pro upozornění na všestranné následky pandemie a jejich dopad na kvalitu života. Cílem této teoretické studie je diskutovat a upozornit na rizika týkající se kvality života, která vyplývají z epidemie onemocnění covid-19 a s ní souvisejících opatření perspektivou sociální práce. Pro zohlednění širší perspektivy náhledu na kvalitu života bylo pro analýzu současného stavu využito koncepce capability approach a z ní vyplývajících základních lid-ských potencialit. © 2021. The conducted qualitative survey is therefore devoted to experiencing this crisis from the perspective of students and the importance of the foundations of their attitudes in coping with this challenging situation. Students of the bachelor's programme Leisure Education were given an assignment - an authorial essay on the topic ‘I, my profession, and covid'. This was then phenomenologically analysed in order to determine the subjective level of experiencing the crisis. From a sample of 182 essays, seven more general attitude codes were read. They illustrate students' experiences and the way of coping with this phenomenon (using one's personal attitude) and show the advantage of certain attitude codes (personal settings) for coping with a long-term crisis. The implications of the results are possible at two levels: they offer a methodological opportunity in comparative studies with the expected concurrent (methodologically differently constructed) studies of the corona-virus crisis and also point to the need for an active personal setting in a long-term crisis. © 2021. The author shows that common good, solidarity, and subsidiarity, fundamental principles of social ethics, are decisive in enabling authentic ‘coping’ to survive the pandemic aftermath. The main implication of the contribution is to show an alternative way of overcoming the breakdown caused by the pandemic state. Nevertheless, the eff ects of the pandemic and related measures are most often discussed in the public sphere in the context of health and economic aspects of social life. Social work, due to its complex nature, makes it possible to look at problems in a broader context, and therefore its perspective seems to be suitable for drawing attention to the all-round consequences of the pandemic and their impact on the quality of life. The aim of this theoretical study is to discuss and draw attention to the risks related to the quality of life that arise from the covid-19 epidemic and associated measures from the perspective of social work. It also asks how the corona-virus pandemic can be interpreted in this context. First, it presents general criteria for reading the signs of the times. Then it gives four selected interpretations of the corona-virus pandemic which are then theologically refl ected upon using the above criteria. Based on this refl ection, it shows that not every interpretation of a pandemic can be considered a reading of the signs of the times.
