Reverend Emmanuel Mobiyina Friday Oshoffa is selected out of many white garment Churches because of the large audience that listen to him as the Supreme Head of Celestial Church of Christ worldwide. In this study, we purposively studied thirty-two (32) excerpts selected from Reverend EMF Oshoffa's sermons through participants and non- participant observations. The findings revealed the GSP catalogue for Reverend EMF Oshoffa as [P]^ [S]^ (DoP)^ [Se]^ {(CfC)^ (WtF)}^ [F]. The elements generated in the catalogue include: prayer P, Song S, Greeting G, Declaration of Purpose DoP, Sermon Se, Call for Confession CfC, Welcome to the Fold WtF, and Finis F. While DoP, CfC and WtF are optional, the remaining ones (P, S, G, Se and F) are obligatory. The findings revealed that most registers used in patterning CCC sermon feature 'angelic registers' whose meanings cannot be traced to any world languages, but their meanings can be inferred from the context of use. Notable registers of the sermon featured El-beraca-bered-Eli, Elmorijah, Elohimjah,and Eli-Bamah-Yabah. The paper concluded that the elements of GSP catalogued here are typical of CCC sermonic discourse. It is therefore suggested that future research could apply this model to other sermonic discourse of other denomination, most especially White Garment Church such as Cherubim and Seraphim to further test its validity.","PeriodicalId":378652,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Systemic Functional Linguistics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128795223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The moral values of the text cannot be comprehended well so that the text is not popular in the communities. Even, the young generations have preference to switch their entertainment modes into the modern entertainment mode. From that phenomenon, this research explored the social semiotics of the text. The theory used to analyze the text is the theory of social context from Systemic Functional linguistics, namely: context of situation, context of culture, and ideology (Halliday and Ruqaiya, 1999). The data source was taken from Kumpulan Satua ‘Balinese folklore’ written by Suwija, et.al (2019). This is qualitative research by applying library technique. The technique to collect the data was field, tenor, and mode, namely: what word was conceptualized, what action was actualized, who spoke, to whom spoke, how to speak, and others. The data are presented in two languages, Balinese language is used as the source language, and the English is used as the translation. The result of the research suggested that it is very important to comprehend social phenomenon based on social context. Without understanding the social context, it will destruct not only for the actor, but it is also for others. This category of language performs up-scaling or down-scaling of isolated and individual item solely so as to convey the level of intensity (Martin & White, 2005). The paper aims at exploring how isolating intensifiers upgrade and downgrade verbal processes found in English literary discourse. The study was conducted using qualitative method and basing on 120 samples extracted from the English literary works namely Wuthering Heights by Bronté, The Man of Property by Galsworthy, The moon and Sixpence by Maugham and Vanity Fair by Thackeray. The findings show that the isolating intensifiers can modify a range of various processes such as Material, Mental, Behaviour and Rational processes so as to raise or lower the degree of intensity for the processes. This study uses qualitative methods because qualitative is a procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of written and spoken words. The results showed that this case contained three types of discrimination and stereotypes. First, Individual Discrimination is presented in the unfair treatment by white people against the main black figure, Don Shirley. Second, Institutional Discrimination occurs in the police institution where the police imprison Don Shirley who has not committed a crime at all, but only because he is black. It shows who (or what) is the actor that does the action, if possible, to the goal (or, range), as the participant in the news. This research explained the words as material processes in clauses and the function of their appearance in the online news based on its features of transitivity as part of Systemic Functional Linguistics through the contexts. A descriptive qualitative method was used to explain the processes. The material processes in the text were analyzed based on types of processes of transitivity in Systemic Functional Linguistics study. There are fifty-one material processes found in the text, consists of thirty-seven processes of doing (composed by the creative and the dispositive processes), and fourteen processes of happening. Material processes that were used in the news text show the material actions done by entities (animate or inanimate objects), written from the point of view of the news writer(s). By this research, it can be seen that material processes are very useful for text writing, such as giving more colors, drawing more interest from the readers, giving different word meaning in different contexts, and giving more meaning to the context itself.","PeriodicalId":378652,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Systemic Functional Linguistics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128510242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
