The premolar teeth were selected and sectioned into two halves. The artificial white spot lesions were created and resin-infiltration procedure was performed to seal the pores. The specimens immersed in the control subgroup showed an insignificant colour change (∆E) after 72 h. While significant differences in colour change among the experimental groups across time intervals (p<0.001), oral rinse groups (p<0.001), and the interaction between timeline and groups (p<0.001). All resin-infiltrated specimens showed colour differences after immersion in oral rinses with visually perceptible change. Although, Colgate Plax and Oral B oral rinses demonstrated the highest and lowest colour change, respectively in the initial 24 h. However, at 72 h and 7 d time-points, Listerine oral rinse demonstrated the highest colour change, while the lowest values were observed in Oral-B oral rinse. The use of Listerine should therefore be cautiously advised in resin-infiltrated cavities.","PeriodicalId":378555,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Sciences and Research","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126177726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been reported that cytokines such as IL2, TNF α, IL6 were produced in patients with RAU. IL8 is a neutrophil chemotactic factor and its level increases in response to virus and bacterial products and TNF α or IL1β production. The aim of the study was to estimate the concentration of IL-8 in RAU patients compared to control group. The study was carried out on a total number of 70 individuals of both sexes and different age groups (50 patients and 20 control ) attending Department of Oral Surgery, Unit of Oral Medicine, College of Dentistry /Mosul University for the period from 1/10/2017 to 1/4/2018. Clinical examination was performed and blood samples collected, serum was separated and used in ELISA test to estimate IL-8 concentration. The location of RAU was common in the lower lips followed by buccal mucosa. The concentration of IL-8 in RAU patients was highly significant compared to control group. Within different age groups, IL-8 was higher in age group 13-30 years old. Also high concentration of IL-8 was noticed in females more than males. Minor RAU showed higher concentration of IL-8.","PeriodicalId":378555,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Sciences and Research","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134078490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main advantages of Competency based education over the traditional education is the shifting of the educational process from the teacher based to a student based. It is proposed that there are 4 stages of competency which are novice, beginner, competent, and expert, which depend upon the degree of assistance the student receives in each stage. There are different assessment methods used in the competency based education using some evaluation criteria (Rubrics) for each stage, in order to shift from the traditional to the competency based education it is proposed that the curricula, and assessment methods should be reviewed. In this article I will discuss the applicability of competency-based education in dentistry regarding, its advantages over traditional education, stages, and the different assessment methods.","PeriodicalId":378555,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Sciences and Research","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114535304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process of healing is not affected by filling materials because the periapical tissues could tolerate it well, but a greater failure frequency is identified in teeth with an overfilled. Case report: This case report depicts an overextended guttapercha material and a different nonsurgical approach to remove this material. Conclusion: This conservative approach is a secure and plausible choice to remove extruded guttapercha in the periapical area. Clinical significance: The failure of endodontic treatment could increase with overextended guttapercha materials. One of the most common approaches to remove this overextended guttapercha cone is a surgical technique. Nonetheless, this nonsurgical technique could be a better alternative treatment technique and could increase success.","PeriodicalId":378555,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Sciences and Research","volume":"132 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122415855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With appropriate case selection and optimal disinfection, regenerative endodontic procedure (REP) can be effective and a desirable result can be obtained. In this report, an immature necrotic mandibular second molar had been treated by REP in two visits. In the first visit, a nonsetting calcium hydroxide was used as intracanal medication after irrigation with 1.5% (NaOCl). In the second visit, blood clots were created in the root canals. MTA was placed over the blood clots and the tooth was restored with a composite filling and stainless-steel crown. A clinical and radiographic follow up was performed for three years where the tooth was deemed a symptomatic with a complete root formation.","PeriodicalId":378555,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Sciences and Research","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126576531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
