In addition, some ecological notes about this rare species of Kosovo are provided. The female genitalia of R. siparantum are very similar to those of Rhyacophila hirticornis McLachlan, 1879 (known from numerous locations in Europe) and Rhyacophila schmidinarica Urbanič, Krušnik & Malicky, 2000 (known only from Slovenia and Croatia). The female genitalia of Rhyacophila siparantum can be easily distinguished from both species by its rounded apical part of segment VIII on ventral view, along with other morphological differences.","PeriodicalId":37846,"journal":{"name":"Ecologica Montenegrina","volume":"156 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140428719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite an increasing scientific interest in biota occurring in intermittent freshwater habitats, our knowledge about environmental factors shaping freshwater gastropod assemblages in such habitats is still poor. Therefore, this study aimed to assess gastropod assemblage composition in four karst intermittent rivers in the Mediterranean during the lotic phase, compare gastropod taxa richness and abundance among the rivers, and determine their relationships with environmental variables. A total of six taxa was recorded, with each river harbouring a unique, species-poor (up to three species) assemblage. Gastropod assemblages were influenced by the physico-chemical water properties, especially the concentration of dissolved oxygen in water, conductivity, and chemical oxygen demand. Our results provide a basis for further research on freshwater snail assemblages in the Mediterranean karst intermittent rivers, as the need to protect these vulnerable ecosystems and develop adequate monitoring practices becomes imperative due to climate change and anthropogenic pressures.","PeriodicalId":37846,"journal":{"name":"Ecologica Montenegrina","volume":"18 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140436795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present a redescription of Erebia scoparia doii Nakahara, 1926 and illustrate the male genitalia and the external morphology of both sexes based on the topotypes from Kunashir Island. Also, we provide DNA sequence data of this subspecies for the first time. This species is a sister species to Lajonquierea mediofasciata (Grunberg, 1913) distributed in montane rainforests of Borneo. The new species can easily be distinguished by its wing coloration and forewing pattern. Additionally, the male genitalia of Lajonquierea koshkini sp. nov. differ from those of Lajonquierea mediofasciata by the thin and curved valves with the small spine-like basal processes, as well as by the wide finger-like terminal processes at the cubile arms (they are spine-like in Lajonquierea mediofasciata). The study aimed to determine the distribution and food preferences of Javan langurs in Sokokembang Forest as part of understanding ecological conditions. The research used strip transect and concentration count methods, sampling the distribution of food using accidental sampling and recording data on the utilization of food plants with rapid assessment. The results showed that the types of food consumed by javan langurs were 14 types of plants, which were scattered at 6 points on five transect lines. The percentage of preferred plants was (Pangium edule) 29.4%, (Artocarpus elasticus) 17.6%, (Dysoxylum excelsum) 11.8%, (Pometia pinnata) 8.8%, (Cinnamomum iners) 5.9%, and others 2.9%. The average vertical space utilization of javan langurs during feeding activities was 17.3 m (stratum C) with a percentage of 70.6%. The percentage of tree crown space usage pattern of javan langur in CII (36.1%), CI (19.4%), BII (13.9%), AI (11.1%) BII, and CIII (8.3%), AII (2.8%). Acacia, Eucalyptus and Pinus plantations have been established widely in Vietnam for reforestation, wood products and paper industry. However, severe infestations of these three exotic trees have occurred due to longhorn beetles. The present study identified Coptops annulipes Gahan, 1894, Anagelasta apicalis Pic, 1925, Desisa subfasciata (Pascoe, 1862), and Cephalallus unicolor (Gahan, 1906) as four new longhorn beetles attacking Acacia crassicarpa in Quang Tri province, Eucalyptus hybrid (E. urophylla × E. grandis) in Bac Giang province, and Pinus caribaea in Quang Tri province, Vietnam. The infestation levels caused by C. annulipes, A. apicalis, D. subfasciata and C. unicolor were 16.8%, 29.5%, 39.2% and 24.3%, respectively. The damage indeces were 0.41, 0.85, 1.16 and 0.71, respectively. A. apicalis damaged at the base, C. annulipes and C. unicolor damaged at the lower trunk of host trees, D. subfasciata infested the top of trees. This information is expected to assist forest owners and government authorities across the country in pest surveillance and in developing suitable management plans for these four emerging pests.","PeriodicalId":37846,"journal":{"name":"Ecologica Montenegrina","volume":"21 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139156125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
