I have known Carl since the early 70s, when much of the work described was in its early development stage. Indeed, it is interesting for me to note that Carl recommends reading the special AP issue published when I was editor of the Transactiom. During that publication period we were having great difficulty with page limtations (700-800 pages per year), and I had a stressful time with the article-length problem. It should be noted that our present journal is¿ nearly double the volume allowed then. Several of us at the time made a plea to AdCom to expand the length to 1,000 pages!! This was soundly defeated, because of the fear that our finances would suffer greatly, and that this change was certainly too radical a step. Perhaps this page limitation problem spurred Carl on to further expand his Notes, a worthwhile and, certainly, a widely appreciated activity. In my opinion, the growth of our Socief in the past fifteen years is, in part, due to the edication of individuals such as Carl. Now that I have handed off the editorial responsibilities to our new Editor, Bob McIntosh, and have had time to catch up a bit on my othear activities, I thought it might be interest to the readership of the Newsletter if I were to briefly review this statistical data. Early in my term, we began to keep track of the number of equivalent journal pages currently at each stage of the publication process. Later, additional parameters were added to the report, including review time and total processing time, as well as the distribution of submissions over the various subject areas. Thus, in attempting to summarize the three years of data, I have had to accommodate some gaps where data was not tracked. However, for the most part the three-year picture is fairly complete.","PeriodicalId":377321,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Newsletter","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129227994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There appears to be no reason for including mismatch losses into the definition of gain. The term gain or directivity should be reserved for properties of the field generated by the currents in the elements of an array. Losses in feeding and matching networks are important and need to be determined, but they are best kept separate from the radiated field and its directive properties, as expressed in the present IEEE definition of gain.","PeriodicalId":377321,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Newsletter","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116637346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the last several years, we have experienced growing interest in Chapter activities, as evident from our last year’s activity reports. It is our belief that local Chapters are capable of improving and increasing interest and interaction among the AP-S members. This is primarily achieved by organizing regular meetin s and inviting outstanding speakers, who address techcal areas of current interest to the local members. As a new Chairman, I would like to assist Chapters as much as possible, and I hope that we will be able to effectively serve our members. There are different types of Chapter activities which are available for each Chapter, based on its needs. It is the Chapter officers’ responsibility to bring their Chapter’s needs to my attention. As it was explained in our Chapter officers’ meeting in San Jose, Chapters who request financial support must justify their requests carefully and properly.","PeriodicalId":377321,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Newsletter","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121068468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
