The development of active power filter which consists of voltage reference, triangular generator to generate pulse width modulation with half inverters is simulated. The current injection network of half inverter in series with three phase of a star delta transformer which is interconnected to grid lines is also discussed. It is observed that the reduction of harmonics at grid lines was significantly reduced. The simulation results show that the total harmonic distortions are reduced within range of 45% - 50% and 97% - 99% at distributions and neutral lines respectively. Hussain","doi":"10.1109/PECON.2004.1461653","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PECON.2004.1461653","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents a new computationally fast and accurate method for evaluating available transfer capability (ATC) based on a curve fitting technique so-called as the cubic-spline interpolation technique. The advantage of the technique in the computation of ATC is that it has the ability to reduce the time consuming AC power flow computations. The cubic-spline interpolation technique traces the curves of voltage magnitude and power flow variations with respect to the increase of real power transfer. ATC is then determined at the point where the voltage or power flow limits intersect the curves. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by illustrating the ATC evaluation on a practical test system. ATC results obtained from the proposed cubic-spline interpolation technique prove that the method is satisfactorily accurate and it is faster than the ATC method using the recursive AC power flow computations.","PeriodicalId":375856,"journal":{"name":"PECon 2004. Lajim","doi":"10.1109/PECON.2004.1461659","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PECON.2004.1461659","url":null,"abstract":"A statistic compiled by the Engineering Department of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in August 2002 had shown that between January 2001 and January 2002, more than 38% of electronic ballasts (EB) installed in street lighting lanterns nationwide had failed during operation. By August 2002, out of 82,000 EB installed nationwide, 53% became faulty. In some cases, the EB were found to be defective within days of being installed. It was suspected that the EB became faulty due to either vibration, shock or bump experienced during the transportation and handling of the EB, direct or indirect lightning strikes on the street lanterns or possibly inadequate design. A research project was undertaken by TNB Research Sdn Bhd (TNBR) to investigate the root causes of EB failures and to recommend improvements to the EB design. Samples of EB were obtained from the TNB vendors and from several sites around the country. The samples were subjected to various type tests and post-mortem analysis involving electrical and thermography tests.
