Hummadi","doi":"10.4322/bds.2022.e2960","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4322/bds.2022.e2960","url":null,"abstract":"Oral mucosa could be the first site infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) –the causative agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Indeed, different oral and paraoral lesions, conditions and symptoms have been reported in patients with COVID-19. Experts thought that such oral lesions could be secondary to the COVID-19-associated deterioration of systemic health or due to treatments of COVID-19. We present here a case of a 24-year-old male presented with painful multiple ulcers involving the labial and buccal mucosae bilaterally after a while of feeling very mild symptoms that laboratory-confirmed by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction to be COVID-19. Involvement of eyes was also reported. The above clinical presentation was consistent with minor erythema multiform. Many topical preparations were prescribed but with limited improvement. Hence, oral prednisolone was prescribed with a 40-mg loading dose that was tapered by 10 mg every 3 days. Complete healing of oral mucosa was observed on the 10 day. Strikingly, the patient got affected with the second episode of similar oral lesions 5 months later without any apparent triggering factors, suggestive a long term effects of COVID-19 in a subset of patients. The present case report provides dentists with useful information and increases their awareness regarding possible involvement of oral cavity with multiple ulcerative lesions associated with COVID-19. © 2022, Universidade Estadual Paulista, Institute of Science and Technology of Sao Jose dos Campos. Material and Methods: Seventeen human molars with one surface presenting WSL and a sound surface (2 x 2 mm window) were characterized by Quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF ® ), Optical coherence tomography (OCT), microhardness, and Raman spectroscopy. The ANOVA and Tukey’s test were used at 5% significance level. Results: The QLF comparison between distinct substrates yielded decreased ∆ Q (integrated fluorescence loss) of -15,37%mm 2 and -11,68% ∆ F (fluorescence loss) for WSL. The OCT detected mean lesion depth of 174,43 µm. ANOVA could not detect differences in the optical attenuation coefficient between the substrates (p>0.05). Lower microhardness measures were observed in WSL than on sound enamel (p<0.05). The Raman spectra showed four vibrational phosphate bands (v1, v2, v3, v4), where the highest peak was at 960.3 cm -1 (v1) for both substrates. However, a 40% decrease in phosphate (v1) was detected in WSL. The peak at 1071 cm -1 was higher for sound enamel, indicating the presence of a phosphate band instead of the B-type carbonate. The spectra showed higher intensity of the organic composition at 1295 cm -1 and 1450 cm -1 for WSL. ABSTRACT Background: The debonding of crowns and ceramic veneers with laser is already a reality in the clinic. It presents benefits in comparison to traditional removal with the use of a rotating instrument; however, there is still no consolidated protocol and many professionals use it without the necessary scientific basis. Objective: The aim of this work was to perform a literature review on the debonding of indirect ceramic restorations using the Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers to provide clinical professionals and the scientific community a careful analysis, and also to guiding the use of irradiation at laser for such procedures. Methods: Bibliographic searches were performed in the following databases: Pubmed, Web of Science and Google Scholar. According to the inclusion criteria adopted, twenty-seven clinical and in vitro studies were selected in the period from 2007 to 2021. In the present work, the composition of the crowns and facets, as well as the types of cement and the laser irradiation protocols adopted in the selected studies is detailed. Conclusions: It was concluded that the use of erbium lasers for debonding of indirect ceramic restorations proved to be more selective and conservative when compared to removal with a rotary diamond instrument. Furthermore, it was shown to be in more efficient in debonding different types of ceramics.
