This study aimed to examine the effect of additive intercropping with soybean on growth and yield of three promising lines of black rice grown on raised-beds under an aerobic irrigation system. The experiment was carried out on an irrigated rice growing area located in Dasan Tebu (-8.653912, 116.130813), West Lombok, Indonesia, from April to August 2021, which was arranged according to Split Plot design, with three blocks and two treatment factors: black-rice genotypes as the main plots (G3, G9, G4/15), and intercropping as the subplots (T0= monocrop and T1= rice-soybean-intercropping). On the intercropping beds, soybean of Dena-1 variety was relay-planted in additive series between double-rows of black-rice at two weeks after seeding of black-rice. Results indicated that intercropping with soybean increased growth and yield components of black rice with an average grain yield of 36.95 g/clump in T1 and 32.63 g/clump in T0. Grain yield was also different between genotypes with the highest grain yield of 39.32 g/clump in G4/15 line. However, the significant interaction between factors on biomass weight indicated that both G9 and G4/15 lines showed positive but G3 negative response to additive intercropping with soybean, which reasons are still unclear and need further investigation, although it seems that the G4/15 line was the most responsive to intercropping with soybean in increasing black-rice grain yield, with the highest grain yield was on G4/15 line intercropped with soybean (42.73 g/clump or 8.55 ton/ha). Four elevation ranges: 1400-1474masl, 1475-1549masl, 1550-1624masl and >1624masl of Ramechhap district were taken for the study of severity of infestation by this fly species in November 2018. A subsequent rearing was conducted at Agriculture and Forestry University, Chitwan, Nepal upto April 2019 to assess various developmental parameters of Bactrocera minax starting from larval stage in infested sweet oranges to the adult flies. Elevation range had the most significant effect (P<0.05) on pest severity (2017/18). Pest severity had strong relationship on elevation of orchards (R=0.6638). Maximum pest severity (37.12%) was found in 1550-1624masl and minimum (2.90%) in 1400-1474masl. Maximum mean maggots/fruit (6.40±1.25) at 1550-1624masl and minimum (3.95±0.92) at 1475-1549masl were recorded. Post-pupal mortality was higher than pre-pupal mortality. Maximum pre-pupal mortality (11.13±5.24%) at >1624masl and the minimum (2.08±1.46%) at 1550-1624masl were recorded while 1475-1549masl and 1400-1474masl had the respective minimum (25.81±7.59%) and maximum (36.08±9.17%) post-pupal mortality. Most adult flies emerged by 2 week of March lasting 115 days for adult eclosion. Sex ratio (male: female) was maximum (2.5) at 1400-1474masl and minimum (1.2) at >1624masl. Without feeding an adult fly survived upto 3 days. It can be speculated that besides other meteorological factors, elevation affects geographical distribution of fly and its subsequent biological parameters. Highland districts of Guji zone were potential producers of bread wheat varieties. The production of bread wheat on large area is limited by occurrence of rust and lack of improved bread wheat varieties. But the demand and supply of wheat is imbalance in the area. Farmers were demanding improved and rust tolerant bread wheat varieties. Sanate variety was tested on small area on few experimental farmers. The variety was recommended for the wheat production in the areas. Therefore, it is necessary to disseminate Sanate variety in highlands areas of Guji zone. The objectives of the study were to popularize Sanate variety, to evaluate yield and profitability of Sanate production, capacitate farmers on bread wheat production and linkage among key stakeholders. Four districts were selected based on wheat production potential. Farmers were selected based their interest to grow Sanate variety and ownership of land. 57.72 quintals of improved Sanate variety was distributed for four districts, 12 kebeles and 156 farmers were participated during 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 production seasons. 39 ha of land were covered by Sanate variety. The seed was sown 20 cm between rows and drilling of 148 kg/ha seed rate in the rows. 121kg/ha of NPS fertilizer was applied at planting time. Hand weeding and 2-4-D was used to control weed. Yield data, costs of production, income from Sanate production and farmers’ feedback were collected and analysed by descriptive statistics, qualitative and cost benefit analysis. Training, exchange visit and field day were used for the popularization of Sanate. 539 participants were capacitated on Sanate production. 32.23 qt/ha was obtained from pre scaling up of Sanate. The cost benefit analysis shows that Sanate variety was profitable with 27,966.5 ETB/ha. Even though, Sanate gave high yield and profit at the study areas the variety was not highly demanded on the market due to its dark color. However, it was used for household consumption. The variety was also affected by rust at some farmers field. Therefore, the production of Sanate should be done with the support of fungicide in the highlands of Guji zone. While substantial research has been conducted investigating HLB control methods, the majority of this research is focused on techniques that are not compliant with organic regulations. Management of the HLB vector, the Asian citrus psyllid in conventional citrus is based largely on intensive use of synthetic insecticides, which are banned from use under organic management. Research specifically targeted at investigating control of Huanglongbing in organic systems are rare. However, some studies on conventional groves have included methods that potentially could be incorporated into organic protocols. This review examines research from multiple citrus systems to distill the techniques that could be used under organic certification to help control HLB. Examination of available literature, unpublished research data and grower observations have produced evidence that Citrus Greening may be managed and marketable fruit produced. Strict disease prevention, diligent scouting, ACP control, nutritional support of healthy and infected trees, implementation of biological controls and the planting of cultivars considered tolerant or resistant to HLB may be combined to give organic growers as good a chance as any to produce marketable fruit. The inherent restrictions of organic production may force growers to utilize the very techniques that create a sustainable growing system that puts tree health first; that alone may carry the organic citrus grower past the conventional grower in weathering the storm. One of the constraining factors in increasing potato productivity is leaf-sucking pests including aphids (Aphids spp.,), whitefly (Bemisia tabaci), and thrips (Thrips Palmi Karny), which besides damaging plants directly, can act as vectors for viruses that cause potato plant diseases such as Potato virus Y (PVY) and Potato leaf roll virus (PLRV). These two viruses can cause quite severe damage and through the health of the seeds they produce, they can reduce potato productivity by up to 70-80%. This study aims to determine the effect of several concentrations of botanical pesticides from Virginia tobacco stem waste on the emergence of viral disease symptoms in potato plants. The experiment was carried out in Sembalun Bumbung Village, East Lombok Regency (Indonesia), which was arranged using a Randomized Block Design consisting of 6 treatments namely control, abamectin, and Virginia tobacco stem waste botanical pesticides with concentrations of 2, 4, 6 and 8 ml/L. The results showed that the botanical pesticides from Virginia tobacco stem waste were effective in reducing leaf-sucking pest populations and suppressing the intensity of leaf-sucking pest attacks and were able to suppress the emergence of viral disease symptoms, with a concentration of 8 ml/L botanical pesticides more effective than other treatments in controlling populations. and attacks by potato leaf-sucking pests suspected as virus vectors.","PeriodicalId":375111,"journal":{"name":"International journal of Horticulture, Agriculture and Food science","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131112250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the current review is to explore the relationship between consumption of junk food and type 2 diabetes. Junk food is defined as being easily accessible, typically inexpensive, and having low nutritive value. These foods have lesser amounts of iron, calcium, and dietary fiber and are higher in calories, salt, and saturated fat. Unhealthy diet is one of the important lifestyle factors responsible for several health conditions. Junk foods includes deep fried, processed or ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and high sugar containing foodstuffs and beverages such as Sugar Sweetened Beverages (SSBs) are directly linked with higher body mass index (BMI), adiposity and increased insulin resistance (IR). For pertinent databases IDF Atlas reports, PubMed, Springer, Elsevier, Web of Science and BMJ were searched for original and meta-analysis studies published up to March, 2023. In recent decades, consumption of these foods has significantly increased worldwide. The primary risk factor for type 2 diabetes is obesity and consuming junk foods is strongly associated with being obese. Junk food consequences include an increase in type 2 diabetes cases especially among youths and adult women compared to men. Obesity or high BMI indicate a positive energy balance due to junk food intake. As a result, the recurrent consumption of junk food increases the likelihood of developing the type 2 diabetes.","PeriodicalId":375111,"journal":{"name":"International journal of Horticulture, Agriculture and Food science","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133225369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
