Coupled mode theory is used to analyze the waveguide step-chirped gratings. In the step-chirped grating structures, the grating is divided into a number of sections with a uniform grating. A matrix is obtained for each section. Then the resulted matrices for all sections are multiplied together to obtain the reflectivity and group delay of the whole gratings structure. Number of sections is optimized to minimize the ripples. Optimized 15-nm bandwidth and 50-ps group delay are achieved.","PeriodicalId":374957,"journal":{"name":"2011 7th International Workshop on Fibre and Optical Passive Components","volume":"44 7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115553604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Highly coherent and stable continua are demonstrated experimentally. We present pulse duration measurements obtained when spectrally filtering the all-normal dispersion supercontinuum, and show that this method is an excellent candidate for use as a compact, low-noise, tunable ultrafast laser source. Experimental spectral and temporal measurements are interpreted using numerical simulations, and experiment and modeling are shown to be in very good agreement.","PeriodicalId":374957,"journal":{"name":"2011 7th International Workshop on Fibre and Optical Passive Components","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127896902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As can be expected, the threshold for SBS was measured to be much higher in MMF (105 mW) compared with SMF (15 mW). A difference of 525 MHz was observed in the SBS frequency shift between both types of fibers. An increase in the gain bandwidth, which was measured to be 17 MHz for MMF compared to 8 MHz in SMF and which is due to several modes present in the MMF. Temperature dependence of the frequency shift was also investigated and was shown to be the same (1 MHz/°C) for both types of fibers. Several applications are therefore proposed using SBS in multi-mode fiber.","PeriodicalId":374957,"journal":{"name":"2011 7th International Workshop on Fibre and Optical Passive Components","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126608290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low-loss SOI curved waveguides are attracting attention as they offer solutions to the dominant issue of integration density of planar lightwave circuits on a single SOI chip. Propagation loss and radiation loss rate of SOI curved waveguides are accurately measured by using Fabry-Perot interferometric method with the help of an optical vector analyzer (Luna system). The presented technique provides a universal solution for optical loss measurement of photonic integrated chips.","PeriodicalId":374957,"journal":{"name":"2011 7th International Workshop on Fibre and Optical Passive Components","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114600402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
