Motor function often impaired after a stroke, and QOL is significantly damaged. Therefore, rehabilitation is necessary, but there are few effective methods yet. After the damages to the motor cortex by stroke, some motor functions are affected, but the rehabilitation training can induce the reorganization in the adjacent intact cortex and motor functions may be recovered. The musculoskeletal system plays a role in bridging brain activity and motor function. Even though the movement appears to be the same, the muscle activity may have changed. Muscle synergy plays an important role in visualizing muscle activity because it can express activity patterns that depend on tasks more than muscle activity alone.","PeriodicalId":374883,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127754928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These diseases include systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis, Sjogren’s syndrome, mixed CTDs, and undifferentiated CTDs. Cutaneous, articular, muscular, pulmonary and cardiovascular manifestations are among the most frequent during these diseases and often lead to a functional and physical disability that sometimes severely affects the quality of life of these patients. Rehabilitation and physical therapy play a crucial role in the management of patients with CTDs but despite their proven benefits, they are often neglected and represent a challenge for clinicians. This overview focuses on the rehabilitation of cutaneous, musculoskeletal and cardio-pulmonary involvement of CTDs.","PeriodicalId":374883,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114351778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These acts interfere with the therapeutic milieu and cause unrest amongst both staff and patients. Understanding the aetiology and variables associated with these are critical to establishing safer wards. In this review article we amalgamate and summarize findings from research within the last ten years. We use evidence from recent research, clinical guidelines and our individual experiences to describe how simple interventions may help in reducing the incidence in locked wards. which lead to violence by patients who are admitted to the wards, regardless of their psychiatric diagnosis. We will discuss briefly how this can be prevented with particular emphasis on the beneficial effects of changing the ward structure, organization and design. To aid our review a literature search was conducted on articles produced in the last ten years around the aetiology of anger/hostility and violence. Our search yielded three sets of guidelines from NICE which included short term management, and the prevalence of violence/aggressive behaviors in those with a mental health diagnosis. We found two systematic reviews which focused on aggression in psychiatric wards and three research articles investigating the aetiology.","PeriodicalId":374883,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125549499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fear is related to so many reasons that we commence to analyze it, being attracted by the numerous fields that can connect the disease and this symptom, although, fear is not classified as a manifestation of multiple sclerosis yet. The. fear of the future was found to be a preponderant concern amongst the participants. Affiliated with this fear, the patients evoked peculiar concerns about experiencing farther losses of mobility and independence, becoming a burden on family and caregivers, and having to move to a nursing home.","PeriodicalId":374883,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126430368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
