Later on, A. pallidior (Stringer, 1930) was described, based on 6 specimens from Japan. Both descriptions where based only on the external appearance and published without illustrations, making subsequent accurate identification of both these species difficult. A subsequent comparison of A. lacteella holotype with the type series of A. pallidior revealed a perfect match. However, since the holotype of A. pallidior is a male whilst A. lacteella’s holotype is a female, a revision based on a direct comparison of the genitalia features of these two types is not possible. Hence, the female genitalia of A. lacteella holotype was compared with the genitalia of a female specimen identified as A. pallidior. A perfect match was found, which leaves no doubt that both taxa are conspecific. Details and consequences of this result for the systematic position of these two taxa, as well as for their relationship with other similar, cognate species are presented. In addition, new data regarding the distribution and biology of A. lacteella are presented.","PeriodicalId":37407,"journal":{"name":"Travaux du Museum National d''Histoire Naturelle Grigore Antipa","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78325783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The studied was focused on two topics: to determine the numerical abundance of Morimus asper funereus populations and to identify the environmental variables which influenced them. Ten abiotic factors were analysed: altitude (A), exposition (Ex.), slope (S.a), forest coverage (F.c.), air temperature (A.t.), soil temperature (S.t.), air relative humidity (A.h.), cloud-cover (Nb.), wind speed (W.s.) and wind direction (W.d.). During the study period, 112 individuals were identified. The most favourable habitats for this species were Moesian silver lime woods (91Z0) and Pannonian-Balkanic Turkey oak – sessile oak forests (91M0). The main environmental variables that influenced the beetle population dynamics were the forest coverage and wind direction. Taking into account these two parameters, we concluded that Morimus asper funereus preferred semi-shaded and semi-open habitats, characteristic of mature, old, deciduous forests within the Măcin Mountains National Park. In order to protect this species, special attention must be given to the forest management measures, e.g. protection of fallen trees, abundant coarse woody debris and a dense canopy.","PeriodicalId":37407,"journal":{"name":"Travaux du Museum National d''Histoire Naturelle Grigore Antipa","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76818105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is supported also by the fact that they are widely sympatric (Rössner et. al., 2010). The research of Rössner et. al. (2010) mentions for the first time the species O. medius for Romania. The aim of our study is to check specimens from major museum collections and some personal collections from the country and to assign them to O. medius or O. vacca.We have examined 417 specimens belonging to the following collections: National Museum of Natural History ''Grigore Antipa'' Bucharest, Brukenthal National Museum- Natural History Museum Department from Sibiu and the personal collections of authors. We have extracted elevation data for each specimen and we have created distribution maps.The biogeographic distribution for Romania shows the ranges of O. vacca and O. medius overlap and they are found in all the country's bioregions. Our study shows a high ecological plasticity in both species. Our data apparently indicate a preference for altitudes below 500 meters, possibly influenced by non-random sampling.","PeriodicalId":37407,"journal":{"name":"Travaux du Museum National d''Histoire Naturelle Grigore Antipa","volume":"168 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72544139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The list consists of 33 taxons, with current nomenclature and position in a collection. Historical aspects have been discussed, in order to provide a depth to the process of collection dissapearance during more than one century of Romanian zoological research. Natural calamities, wars and the evictions of the museum’s buildings that followed, and sometimes the neglection of the collections following the decease of their founder, are the major problems that contributed gradually to the transformation of the taxon/specimen into a historical landmark and not as an accessible object of further taxonomical inquiry.","PeriodicalId":37407,"journal":{"name":"Travaux du Museum National d''Histoire Naturelle Grigore Antipa","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77750961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Romania, before 2015 it was present only in the South-Western region and less than 10 specimens were collected. The species recently changed its host plants from wild Cupressaceae (Juniperus sp., Cupressus sp.) to cultivated Cupressaceae, the most affected one being Thuja occidentalis. In 2013 the first big invasion was recorded in Budapest, Hungary. In 2015, the species was found in two horticultural seedling stations in Bucharest. More recently, in 2017, it was recorded in Cluj-Napoca, and in 2018, in Timișoara, Oradea, Suceava. The article provides a short description of the adults, larva and the signs of the attacks on the host plants. The potential distribution of the species is discussed based on climate niche modelling. The daily behaviour of the adults and their preferences, based on observations, is also discussed. Equally, the bioethics related to this attack is analysed.","PeriodicalId":37407,"journal":{"name":"Travaux du Museum National d''Histoire Naturelle Grigore Antipa","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88861917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
