The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of a 6-week low intensity plyometric training (PT) + whole-body electrostimulation (WBES) combined program, compared with traditional PT, on vertical jump performance, 20 m sprint-time and handgrip strength. Material and methods. 10 male and 10 female Physical Education students were randomly allocated to a control (CON) or an experimental (EXP) group. Both groups performed a 6-week low intensity PT 3 days per week, and during the third day, PT was simultaneously combined with WBES in the EXP group. Countermovement jump (CMJ) height, CMJ peak power, 20 m sprint-time and handgrip strength were measured before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the training period. Repeated measures ANOVA was performed to identify differences after the training program. Effect sizes (ES) were assessed using Hedge’s g. Results. No significant differences between groups were observed at post-test. CMJ height and CMJ peak power significantly increased in both groups, with greater ES in the EXP group (p < 0.001, g = 0.68; p < 0.001, g = 0.70, respectively). 20 m sprint-time significantly improved in both groups, with greater ES in the CON group (p < 0.001, g = −1.68). Handgrip strength also increased in both groups, but ES were minimal. Conclusions. Both training methods demonstrated to be a good strategy to improve CMJ performance and 20 m sprint-time. The most effective training method for improving CMJ performance was PT + WBES combined program, and traditional PT obtained better results in 20 m sprint-time.","PeriodicalId":37359,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Sport and Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42564521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Haryono, Mitchel Mitchel, N. Prastowo","doi":"10.2478/pjst-2022-0010","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2478/pjst-2022-0010","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract Introduction. Aerobic dance (AD) has grown as a popular aerobic exercise treating metabolic diseases. However, its beneficial effects on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) compared with other types of aerobic exercise have not been known. This study aimed to compare the influence of AD and static cycling (SC) on anthropometric measures, systolic blood pressure (SBP), blood glucose, and total cholesterol. Material and Methods. The design of this study was a randomized controlled study (RCT). Thirty T2DM subjects were assigned to three groups, i.e. control (C), aerobic dance exercise (AD), and static cycling exercise (SC), ten subjects in each group. AD and SC were performed three times a week for eight weeks. On the follow-up, four subjects were withdrawn. Waist and hip circumference (WC and HC), BMI, and blood pressure (BP) were measured. Blood glucose (fasting (FBG) and 2 hours postprandial (2-h PPBG)) and total cholesterol were checked using a simple, instant blood examination device. A paired t-test, Anova and Tamhane’s T2 post hoc test were applied. Significance was set at p < 0.05. Results. Student’s t-test showed that post-exercise waist circumference was significantly increased in the control group (92.7 ± 13.5 cm, p = 0.04), while post-exercise FBG and 2-h PPBG were significantly reduced in the SC group (112.5 ± 12.0 mg/dL, p = 0.04 and 155.0 ± 45.3 mg/dL, p = 0.02, respectively). Tamhane’s T2 post hoc indicates that 2-h PPBG in SC was lower than in the case of AD (155.0 ± 45.3 vs 171.3 ± 19.7 mg/dL, p = 0.04) and SC vs control (155.0 ± 45.3 vs 183.0 ± 24.1 mg/dL, p = 0.02). Systolic was significantly reduced in SC compared to the control group (126.9 ± 7.5 vs. 143.3 ± 17.5 mmHg, p = 0.04). The magnitude of reduced (Δ) in 2-h PPBG in SC was significantly different from control (Δ-18.75 ± 10.9 vs. Δ2.75 ± 12.4, p = 0.04) and AD (Δ-18.75 ± 10.9 vs. Δ6.37 ± 11.8, p = 0.02). Conclusions. Static cycling exercise improved 2-hour postprandial blood glucose and systolic blood pressure significantly more than aerobic dance in T2DM.","PeriodicalId":37359,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Sport and Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46638407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tourist satisfaction and revisit intention have been used to measure tourism performance by the government agency. These two variables were investigated by previous studies but failed to focus on village-based tourism destinations, which are popular in Indonesia. Therefore, this study investigates the effect of cognitive destination image on tourist satisfaction and revisit intention. Material and methods. It also determines the role of tourist satisfaction as a mediating variable between cognitive destination image and revisit intention using 124 respondents. Cognitive destination image is divided into attractive condition, essential condition, appealing activity, and natural environment. Furthermore, this study employs the structural equation model (SEM) using smart-pls to analyze data. Results. The result shows that attractive and essential conditions are related to tourist satisfaction, while appealing activity and essential conditions influence the intention to revisit. Conclusions. Tourist satisfaction associates with the intention to revisit and attractive conditions. However, the function of the tourism satisfaction as a mediating variable between destination image and intention to revisit is partially revealed.","PeriodicalId":37359,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Sport and Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44887147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the mediation role of perceived economic benefits between the influencing factors and support for tourism development is examined. The present study relies on a survey of 300 residents of Pooladkaf, a recently known snow ski resort in Iran where tourism is still at its emerging stage. Partial least squares – structural equation modelling has been employed to analyse the data. Evidence from the study indicates that emotional solidarity has positive effect on support for tourism development. However, the hypothesized path relationships between community attachment and resident’s interest in participation were not supported. The study also shows that emotional solidarity and interests have positive effects on perceived economic benefits, and indirectly on support for tourism development through perceived economic benefits. The study makes an important theoretical contribution to the extant literature by way of applying a revised framework of social exchange theory to investigate the effects of community attachment, emotional solidarity and interest in participation on perceived economic benefits and support for tourism development in the context of ski tourism.","PeriodicalId":37359,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Sport and Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77013225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An online questionnaire was distributed through social media of Canadian and US mountain bike clubs to collect data. A total of 1346 responses were collected, however, responses with missing data or from outside of Canada and US were deleted, resulting in a sample of N = 720. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and multiple regression analysis. EFA analysis of the 41 pull items extracted seven pull factors consisting of climate, trail conditions, natural setting, information sources, trail features, tourism infrastructure, and entertainment options. EFA analysis of the 20 push items extracted five push factors comprised of stimulus-avoidance, adventure experiences, novelty, competency-mastery, and social encounters. Multiple regression analysis revealed that push factors were correlated with pull factors, indicating that travel push motives and destination pull factors interact to form a mountain bike tourists’ perception of destination attractiveness. The findings offer recommendations for developing and marketing a mountain bike-specific travel destination.","PeriodicalId":37359,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Sport and Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87491281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, it is a complex market consisting of several products, services and actors from different natures. This paper examines how, on the one hand, the ecosystem approach, and on the other hand, the socioeconomic co-evolution of sport and tourism can help to understand the mountain sports tourism. The paper hypothesis argues that actors’ interactions, and sport and tourism economic models’ convergence have contributed to shape this market. The ecosystem’s actors have mobilised resources and strategies in order to incorporate sport and tourism industries to establish and to develop a specific market in mountainous areas. The French case study shows how entrepreneurs, local authorities, consumers, institutions, etc. seized the opportunity offered by the development of the society of leisure to constitute a socioeconomic community based on mountain sports tourism in the sense of James Moore [(1993). The study was conducted using a mixed-method comprised of qualitative and quantitative phases. The qualitative phase utilized grounded theory and data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The collected data were analyzed in three stages of open, axial and selective coding and a model was developed based on the derived codes. The findings indicated that sustainable sports tourism development based on RSLG is influenced by six different categories: ‘policy-making’, ‘marketing’, ‘finance and support’, ‘religious and social participation’, ‘infrastructure’ and ‘management and planning’. In the quantitative phase, partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to validate the model. The statistical population of this phase included the organizational staff operating in the fields of tourism and sport, organized coaches, referees and athletes of rural sports in Mazandaran. The findings of this phase revealed that the categories of ‘policy-making’ (0.461), ‘marketing’ (0.351), ‘financial and supporting’ (0.303), ‘religious and social participation’ (0.318), ‘infrastructure’ (0.166) and ‘management and planning’ (0.506) affect the independent variable sustainable sports tourism development based on RSLG.","PeriodicalId":37359,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Sport and Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76994954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the strategies to reverse the depopulation process is the rise of sports tourism. The main objective of this research is to analyse the offer of hiking accommodation in order to be able to propose sports products and services adapted to the clients. We intend to text whether the accommodation offer meets the needs and expectations of hikers and, therefore, whether the area is attractive and generates a tourist product with added value. A qualitative methodology was used through interviews. The profiles interviewed are made up of the different interest groups that revolve around sports tourism in both the private and public spheres. A total of 16 semi-structured interviews were carried out, lasting between 40 and 70 min. The results indicate that the different hiking lodgings have been adapting their offer to make it more competitive, as indicated by previous research on attraction factors. However, it could be interesting to combine the efforts of the different accommodations in order to improve the destination. The implications of this study are various: they describe the current situation in terms of sports tourism in the inland area of Castellón, laying the foundations for setting possible short and medium-term objectives. On the other hand, they provide a larger corpus of information on the idiosyncrasy of the area studied, which translates into a transfer of knowledge that can be used by public administrations and by private companies.","PeriodicalId":37359,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Sport and Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78284205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Activities in nature-based sites bring tourists closer to nature and enable them to find out more about the area through which they are walking by discovering diverse heritage and ethnographic features, situated on or near the hiking trails. It brings a wide range of individual benefits such as boosting mood, improving mental health, reducing stress, calming anxiety, and can lead to a lower risk of depression. Hiking accounts for a significant share of nature-based tourism especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper aims to explore the main motives that drive people to hike. Motivation is a key concept in determining and understanding the reasons for leisure and outdoor activities. Using the data collected in March 2021, the findings underline the importance of Relaxation, Discovery and Enjoyment as the factor that shows the greatest hiker’s motivation. In addition, Creativity, Learning and Control and Socializing have also proven to be important motivating factors. On the other hand, Recognition has been shown to be the least motive for hiking activities and people do not go on hiking to be recognized or show others that they can do it, except in some cases with younger and less experienced hikers. The paper concludes with research limitations and implications for destination management organizations and tourism service providers.","PeriodicalId":37359,"journal":{"name":"Polish Journal of Sport and Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75138044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
