Nebhnani, Aastha Maini, Sagar Meswani","doi":"10.1051/mbcb/2021047","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1051/mbcb/2021047","url":null,"abstract":"Purpose: This study aims to derive a series of biometric measurements using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) from a cross sectional group of population to help the surgeon accurately locate the mandibular foramen and the mental foramen during mandibular osteotomies. Methods: CBCT images of 800 subjects were evaluated. Various measurements were noted and compared between the two sides of the mandible in and between the sexes. Result: Statistically significant values were noted between the right and left sides of Line X to Point A in female subjects, Line Z & Line B only in male subjects and Line X’ in both male and female subjects. However, Line Y was found to be significant when comparing both sides in both males and females and also on correlation between the genders. Conclusion: Although the identification of the mandibular lingula and anatomical landmarks is an important step during mandibular osteotomies, the position of one side, however, cannot be blindly extrapolated to the contra lateral side. Data and sources: A systematic review of scientific literature published until May 2020 was carried out in the following databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar and Journals@ovid. Study selection: A total of 924 records were found, of which 29 articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. There was a male preponderance in most of the studies with male/female ratio ranging from 0.75:1 to 2.1:1. The age range varies from 0 to 19 years with the mean age varying from 3.6 to 8 years. Pitbulls, Rottweiler's, German shepherds, Bull terriers, Labradors and Dobermans were breeds with higher risk of attack. The animals were familiar to the victim (own, friends, neighbors) in 27–98% instances. Most cases of animal bite injuries were recorded during Summer and Spring months. Head and neck followed by extremities was found to be most inflicted area. Conclusions: The sociodemographic characteristics of victim as well as the biting animal affect the circumstances leading to biting episode. Only few cases of oral involvement have been reported. We wondered about their clinical characteristics and their association with lymphoma. Method: This systematic review is conducted according to the PRISMA statement. The Oxford Centre for Evidence Based Medicine table (OCEBM) and the scoring from the National Agency for Accreditation and Assessment in Health (ANAES) was assigned to each study. Results: We have included 16 references. LyP can occur at any age with a female predilection. Oral lesions were unique ulcer and tongue was mostly affected. Histological types A, and C were dominant and LyP resolved spontaneously. 1 case was associated with a lymphoma. Discussion: Cutaneous LyP more affects men and are mostly classified as type A while those orals are type A or C. Oral LyP is probably a progressive lesion whose evolution is not illustrated by the histological aspect which often reflects only the initial acute period. Conclusion: Our literature review has shown that the epidemiological aspects between oral and cutaneous LyP are not the same. Yet, the effects of shisha on oral health is not well documented. Hence, this study was undertaken to compare the clinical and cytological findings in oral cavity of young shisha smokers as compared to non-smokers. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was undertaken among 60 subjects including 30 young shisha smokers and 30 non-smokers. Clinical examination was carried out to record gingival status, periodontal status, oral hygiene and dental caries experience. Exfoliative cytology was used to study the cytological changes of buccal mucosal cells. Data was analysed using SPSS version 22. Student’s t-test, Fisher’s exact test and odd’s ration was used for comparison. p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: No significant differences were found between the groups with respect to proportion of subjects with gingivitis (p = 0.071), erosion (p = 0.085) and dental caries experience (p = 0.329). However, shisha smokers had poorer oral hygiene and more severe gingival inflammation as compared to non-smokers with p = 0.026 and p = 0.007 respectively. The odds of having atypical cells in oral mucosa among shisha smokers was 3.76 times higher than the non-smokers. Conclusion: The findings of our study showed that young shisha smokers had more atypical cells in oral mucosa as compared to their non-smoking counterparts. Materials and method: This was a retrospective study that included all patients received for superolateral temporomandibular dislocation with intact condyle following a maxillofacial trauma. The period covered by the study was from January 2011 to July 2021. Results: 3 patients were studied. According the classification of temporomandibular superolateral dislocation with intact condyle, the first patient had a Type II A, the second and the third patient, type II B. The manual reduction of the first patient luxation was unstable requiring an osteosynthesis of mandibular symphysis to stabilise the reduction of the temporomandibular dislocation. The second patient manual reduction was unsuccessful requiring an open reduction by preauricular approach. The third left against medical advice. Discussion: The occurrence of temporomandibular superolateral dislocation with intact condyle in an underdeveloped city like Bouaké, is not related to the density of road traffic but to the indiscipline of the many motorcyclists who do not wear helmets. The insertion torque varies between cases depending on many factors. Aim: To assess clinically the impact of zero insertion torque on the survival of immediate implant placement in the maxilla for more than 5 years follow-up. Methods: A flapless immediate 2018 implants were in the maxilla in non-restorable single rooted teeth osteotomy site. The insertion torque of the implant was measured clinically by an integrated software. Results: The final insertion torque for 42 implants out of 2018 placed in fresh extraction sockets in the maxilla was zero (no primary stability). Their survival rate was 83.3%. Conclusions: The lack of certain conditions during immediate implant surgical installation and healing had the major effects on success. The loss of torque during immediate implant placement to zero may jeopardize the survival of the implants, but it may not be statistically significant with their failure and loss. The condition not only affects the oral function of the patients but has a huge impact on their social and psychological wellbeing affecting the overall quality of life. To evaluate the effectivity of the treatment assessing the quality of the life of these patients before and after treatment is of utmost importance but till now has not been an integral part of the management strategy. This study was carried to assess the change in quality of life before and after treatment with curcumin in patients with OSMF. Methods: Quality of life was assessed before and after 3 months of treatment with topical curcumin in 50 patients with OSMF using European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life head and neck Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ35). Results: At the end of 3 months there was significant (p < 0.05) change in the quality of life of patients with OSMF as suggested by assessment of the multi-item and single item scale used in the questionnaire.
