Pitcher selection is a strategic decision that significantly influences the performance of a professional baseball team. In this study, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) models were built to rank the performance of baseball pitchers in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States. There are three relevant aspects of this research.  First, the models allow the evaluation of the overall performance of the pitcher, considering his skills and performance as a pitcher as well as his fielding and batting contributions. To evaluate the overall performance of a pitcher, well-known standard professional baseball statistics were used. Second, to highlight the flexibility of the model, four models were created according to the type of pitcher (starter or reliever) and the league in which he plays (American or National league). Finally, a distinctive feature of the models is their general scope. The experts were only required to determine the best criteria and subcriteria and the priorities of the hierarchical structure of the models, but they were not needed to rank the pitchers (alternatives). The models were applied to different emblematic MLB awards and the results produced by the models coincide with the pitchers who actually won the awards.","PeriodicalId":37297,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of the Analytic Hierarchy Process","volume":"32 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141927565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This strategy was developed using an embedded single case study on an end-to-end broiler chicken supply chain in Riau Province, Indonesia. The three distinct data collection methods were in-depth semi-structured interviews guided by the Delphi principle, field observations, and document analysis. Subsequently, the data were meticulously coded and analyzed using NVivo 14 software through template analysis. The development of themes and sub-themes from the final template facilitated the construction of the ANP model, comprising four clusters with a total of 28 criteria. The results indicated that in the business actor and activity cluster, the end consumer criterion was the priority with a weighting value of 0.222. In the stakeholder cluster, the priority was the Halal Inspection Agency (HIA) criterion with a weighting value of 0.178. Meanwhile, the business actors’ awareness of halal integrity assurance criterion had a weighting value of 0.217 in the barriers and challenges to adopting a halal traceability system. The criterion lean knowledge management process (LKM) for all supply chain actors is the priority for cluster strategy to strengthen halal integrity with weighting value of 0.338. This study showed the importance of upholding halal integrity within food supply chains, which are becoming increasingly complex.","PeriodicalId":37297,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of the Analytic Hierarchy Process","volume":"2 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141925685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be for many reasons such as there are numerous pairwise comparisons to be completed or the expert is unsure about the values that must be included in the pairwise comparison matrix. The AHP method cannot be performed without a complete comparison matrix; therefore, the aim of this article is to provide a novel approach based on the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique to estimate the missing values in pairwise comparison matrices. According to the findings of this study, the proposed algorithm can offer a suggested value for the pairwise comparison matrix with an acceptable Consistency Ratio (CR). Furthermore, the time required to find the suggested value is quite short.","PeriodicalId":37297,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of the Analytic Hierarchy Process","volume":"68 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141818918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the ever-evolving business environment, effective knowledge management (KM) is imperative to maintain a competitive advantage. Effective KM within financial institutions can build standardized processes, ensure speedy delivery, and foster better customer relationship management. An integrated approach of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) methods was used to rank these critical success factors and understand their interrelationships. The findings identify organizational factors (cultural aspects, organizational structure, top management support), technological factors (technological adoption, infrastructure support, collaborative systems), and human resources factors (training & learning, agile workforce, knowledge sharing) as the critical success factors. Technological factors were identified as the most important factors. The article further complements the findings of the AHP by exploring the interrelationships between the identified factors to understand and prioritize possible intervention areas. This research has significant theoretical and practical implications. The findings can help financial institutions implement and manage knowledge management initiatives within the organization. This study also adds to the extant literature and addresses gaps in the research in the context of KM within the financial sector.\u0000 ","PeriodicalId":37297,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of the Analytic Hierarchy Process","volume":" 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141831512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Contemporary organizations are increasingly discarding the traditional periodic appraisal systems and moving towards a real-time continuous process of evaluation. The existing multi-criteria decision making method (MCDM)-based employee performance evaluations are not suitable for such continuous evaluations, due to the complexity of the MCDM method. The current appraisal system is notoriously difficult to administer which prevents organizations from using it as an ongoing evaluation. There is a need for a simple yet robust multi-criteria decision making method for continuous performance evaluation of employees (CPEE). In this article, a modified version of the Pugh Matrix Method (MPMM) is proposed as a robust outranking method. The MPMM in combination with the AHP can function as an effective tool for CPEE. The MPMM is compared with other established and popular methods including TOPISIS, PROMETHEE and VIKOR. A statistical comparison using correlation validates the evaluation by the MPMM. There appears to be no significant difference in the evaluation of the MPMM with the other MCDM methods. Owing to its robustness and ease of use, the MPMM can easily be adopted by organizations for CPEE. The managerial implications and agenda for future research are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":37297,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of the Analytic Hierarchy Process","volume":"9 41","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141640503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a key factor in attracting local and foreign investors and maintaining a level of economic advancement. This study primarily focuses on the domain of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and contributes towards achieving three major objectives. The first objective includes modeling interest rate values as triangular fuzzy numbers, and using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a Multi-criteria Decision-Making technique (MCDM). Second, the triangular fuzzy interest rates are forecasted over a future timespan. Subsequently, the last objective includes the use of the Present Worth Analysis (PWA) to calculate the final net present value. The results demonstrate a trend in interest rates with net present values of specific future years. This research is a good initiative for the SBP and helpful for both foreign and local investors. The study is novel in that it involves the merging of qualitative and quantitative data. Furthermore, the combination of the forecasting technique, the AHP, fuzzy set theory, and present worth criteria renders a unique approach to formulating present worth. There is no previous research of this magnitude that has been conducted on this topic in a developing country such as Pakistan. This study delves into the annual interest rate fluctuations, providing valuable insights for present worth calculations.","PeriodicalId":37297,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of the Analytic Hierarchy Process","volume":"7 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139524125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
