The study argued that student interest in the specialization should inform whether or not new programmes would succeed if launched. Using the survey research method, the study gathered and analyzed data on student interest in the information systems specialization both before and after taking an introductory IS course and was able to establish that enhanced interest, enabled by the course, increased their likelihood of choosing the IS specialization, thereby pointing to the success potential of new information systems programmes within the schools of business in Kenyan public universities.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int. ICT provide the tools and promote tourism demand and supply, by facilitating the existence and development of tourism and in resolving the needs inherent to the tourism activity. Consequently, tourism increases ICT requirements, since technological developments facilitate the tasks of economic agents in this sector. ICT enables the tourism industry to become more flexible, because it allows for faster and more efficient responses to requests from customers, while reducing operating costs and enabling more competitive prices. In this article it is presented an overview over the opportunities, emerging features and trends that ICT brings from electronic distribution in tourism, this can help and support the decisions of the various actors in the value chain of this business as well as researchers in the tourism field. Namely, it focus on the opportunities granted to tourism distribution by electronic means, the particularities of electronic tourism and the description of the technologies and trends that the tourism organizations have to consider in order to ensure competitiveness. Finally, it is presented a study using 18 Western European countries showing empirically the importance of the ICT to the tourism activity, by focusing how the number of internet users positively affects tourism demand in those countries.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int. For example, individuals who live in affluent neighborhoods are likely to come into contact with other individuals who have similar income and education levels, which often tend to be associated with political views and personal interests. However, within electronic social networks ESNs, geographical barriers weaken or disappear; interacting with someone from another country is as easy as interacting with someone next door. This survey study asks respondents to compare their close friends, people with whom the respondents interact both within an ESN and face-to-face, with their distal friends, people with whom the respondents interact only inside an ESN. Specifically, respondents are asked about the political, religious, and social views of their groups of friends. The results suggest that respondents do perceive significant differences in the views of their close friends versus their distal friends. In addition, respondents who have a higher percentage of close friends and respondents that are more comfortable sharing their own political, religious, and social views are more likely to spend time reading ESN content that conflicts with their views, but are also more likely to block content that conflicts with their views.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int. Given a data set that is deemed the standard reference for some object, i.e. a flower, industry, disease, or galaxy, other data sets can be compared against it to identify its proximity to the standard. Thus, data that might not lend itself well to traditional methods of analysis could identify new perspectives or views of the data and thus, potentially new perceptions of novel and innovative solutions. This method comes out of the field of artificial intelligence, particularly artificial neural networks, and utilizes both machine learning and pattern recognition to display an innovative analysis.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int. This paper mainly draws on the empirical data gathered from surveys sent to the social enterprises all across Finland. In addition, a part of the data was also collected from four workshops that focused on social enterprises in Finland. The authors' analysis showed that employee participation was highly valued and the employees were given equal opportunities. However, the organisations needed some improvements in terms of their workplace practices. Most of the social enterprises collaborated with businesses, non-governmental organisations and public sector organisations but had little collaboration with universities and research organisations. The role of the social enterprises is still unstable and developing. Their most important role is the employment generation which has had a tremendous positive social impact.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Inf. Syst. Soc. LBSNs allow users to \"check-in\" at geographical locations and share this information with friends. Indeed, with the spatial, temporal and social aspects of user patterns provided by LBSNs data, researchers have a promising opportunity for understanding human mobility dynamics, with the purpose of designing new generation mobile applications, including context-aware advertising and city-wide sensing applications. In this paper, the authors introduce a learning based random walk model LBRW combining user interests and \"mobility homophily\" for location recommendation in LBSNs. These properties are observed from a real-world Location-Based Social Networks LBSNs dataset. The authors present experimental evidence that validates LBRW and demonstrates the power of these inferred properties in improving location recommendation performance.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int. Lotus Tower is a multifunctional communication tower currently being built in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Popular press articles, a discussion forum at Skyscrapercity.com, website of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, and content on several related websites were used to understand the public discourse related to the Lotus Tower. According to the public discourse, there are at least three intertwined narratives related to the design and location of the Lotus Tower: 1 Buddhist symbolism, 2 symbolizing post-war Sri Lanka's development, and 3 help develop Colombo as a tourist destination. These three narratives show how power asymmetries between main ethnic groups, aspirations of pre-existing social groups, and government's ability to draw resources shape the construction of the Lotus Tower. Accordingly, the case of Lotus Tower indicates how ethnic, religious, and political factors can make artifact design unique in different contexts.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. In order to help solve this problem, sustainable buildings that include solid waste management plants and community awareness programs are being constructed. The objective of this research is to propose the building of a reception and storage center for storing the economically valuable wastes as well as a composting plant for treating the organic fraction within the installations of a sustainable park. The methodology is based on Laws, Regulations and Standards related to sustainable buildings, reception and storage centers and composting plants. From a generation study conducted in an ecological park, the volumetric weights of the generated wastes were obtained, the most abundant ones being polyethylene terephthalate better known as PET, 38.75 kg/m3; food wastes, 110.5 kg/m3; and gardening wastes, 2443 kg/m3. PET wastes and plastics were added and a volume of 7.8 m3 in three months was obtained. This volume was used to design the four specific areas into which the reception and storage center was divided, each area being 2 meters long, 1.5 meters wide and 2 meters high, plus one meter for ventilation purposes. A movable partition was proposed in order to accommodate the eventual need of a larger space for a given type of wastes. As regard to the composting plant the method applied in the FAO Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations workshop-composting techniques was used, in which compost density is established at 250 kg/m3 and the daily volume of organic wastes 2.25 m3 was obtained to design a weekly mound being 1.5 meters long, 0.8 meter wide and 1.2 meters high, forming a 16-meter-long pile in three months. These areas will help promote awareness among the visitors.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Inf. Syst. Soc. The majority of the World's population are already living in the major cities and it is continuously increasing. The increase in population forced the major cities to expand. Expansion of cities acclaimed more unplanned settlement that leads unplanned growth. This is a global phenomenon that has a direct impact on natural resources. It is the biggest challenge for urban planners to achieve sustainable development. Developing countries like India, where the population is increasing at an alarming pace, require more attention towards this problem. In this study, an attempt has been made to measure and monitor urban sprawl in Jaipur (Capital, State of Rajasthan, India). Built-up area with corresponding population has been analysed over a period of 41 years (1972-2013). Remotely sensed images of 1972-2013 (MSS, TM and ETM+) have been classified using Supervised Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) for digital image processing. Shannon's entropy has been used to quantify the degree of urban sprawl, and eight landscape metrics have also been used to quantify urban sprawl and its pattern.","PeriodicalId":371573,"journal":{"name":"Int.
