The growing concerns about the use of antibiotics is not baseless though as there are fare chances that they may leave residues in animal tissues and can cause drug-resistance among pathogens. Therefore, the use of natural growth promoters in poultry feed is getting popularity and demand for scientific research is intensifying. The present study was planned to investigate the use of natural growth promoters in Japanese quail diet. The treatments were designated as follows: A (5g Curcuma longa (Turmeric), B (5g Capsicum annum (Red Pepper), C (10g Nigella sativa (Black Cumin), D (10g Pimpinella anisum (Anise seed), E (Combination of treatments A, B, C and D) and F (Control). The data were recorded on following parameters: Body weight, feed conversion ratio, dressing percentage, giblet weight, digestibility coefficients for CP (crude protein), CF (crude fiber), EE (ether extract) and NFE (nitrogen free extract), and nutritive value of DCP% (digestible crude protein), TDN% (total digestible nutrients), ME (metabolizable energy) and mortality. The results showed best feed conversion ratio (FCR) (2.15±0.02), better digestibility coefficients of CP (84.02±1.3), CF (27.97±0.3) and NFE (87.96±1.8), higher nutritive value of TDN% (68.81±1.2) and ME (2895±20), and lowest mortality (2.33±0.50) for birds fed on 5g Turmeric i.e. treatment A. Use of Black Cumin (treatment C) produced highest body weight (122.5±0.2), better FCR (2.31±0.02), good dressing percentage (56.7±0.4) and higher gizzard (2.7±0.01) and intestinal weights (7.5±0.02) than control. Nevertheless, the best dressing percentage (59.5±0.4) was obtained in case of feeding Anise seed i.e., treatment D. However, treatments B and E did not show significant improvement in any of the observed parameters. Results concluded that use of natural herbs and seeds such as Turmeric, Black Cumin and Anise seed is beneficial for quail growth production.","PeriodicalId":371355,"journal":{"name":"Agrobiological Records","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130110651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

E. persicum is non-toxic and less expensive, having good antibacterial activity. Multi-drug resistance is a growing problem in treating bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. There is an urgent need to develop alternative, cost-effective, non-toxic and efficient antimicrobial agents to overcome antimicrobial resistance. Advances in nanotechnology allow the synthesis of green nanoparticles, which can be prepared for controlling bacterial growth. The evolution of antibiotics, which are mostly useful against bacteria and drug-resistant microorganisms. For this purpose, the development of green NPs (silver and iron oxide) has been planned with the objective of evaluating the antibacterial effect of green silver and iron oxide nanoparticles on Staphylococcus aureus. The formation of nanoparticles was confirmed by visual detection by a change in the color of the solution. The characterization of these nanoparticles was done by zeta sizer, zeta potential, UV-Visible spectrometry, FTIR, and scanning electron microscopy to determine the precise formation of silver and iron oxide nanoparticles. The antimicrobial mechanism was fined by the well diffusion method. The results confirmed that synthesized silver and iron oxide nanoparticles have good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.","PeriodicalId":371355,"journal":{"name":"Agrobiological Records","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120848885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current study was designed to ascertain the antimicrobial activities of Allium cepa (onions) extracts. The antimicrobial activities of the onion extracts on the trial organisms, including both gram-positive and -negative bacteria, were carried out using the Agar Well Diffusion method. The tube macro-dilution method determined the extracts' MIC (mg/mL). We investigated the MBC and MFC of the extracts. The antimicrobial assay proved that; the microorganisms tested were sensitive at 50mg/mL but resistant at 3.125mg/mL. From the MIC results, the increasing order of activity of the extracts was Staphylococcus epidermidis (MIC 3.125mg/mL), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella typhimurium (MIC 6.25mg/mL), Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus (MIC 12.5mg/mL) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (25mg/mL). The MBC results proved that the onion extracts (50mg/mL) were bactericidal except for Staphylococcus aureus and fungistatic. Comparatively, at a 5% alpha level, pronounced differences were observed between the zones of inhibition and the solvent extracts by cold and hot water extract on the experimental organisms. However, no significant disparity was observed between the effect of aqueous and solvent extracts. Hence, the study recommends using onions, natural herbal medicine, and antimicrobial agents.","PeriodicalId":371355,"journal":{"name":"Agrobiological Records","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133619188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The highest germination rate (93%) was observed in the mixtures of 75%:25% and 50%:50% silt and PM, 25%:75% silt and FYM and 50%:50% silt and NGC, about five times higher than control (20%). Shoot length (4.5cm), root length (14.0cm), number of lateral branches (6.8), chlorophyll contents (105.9) and seedling fresh weight (5.3g) was highest in the mixture of 50%:50% silt and NGC, around 1.9, 1.5, 2.5 and 2.8 times higher than that of control, respectively. But, highest dry weight (30.9%) was recorded in the mixture of 50%:50% silt and SMC, almost 2.5 times greater than that of control (12.4%). While, the number (3.5) and weight (1388.4g) of fruits plant -1 , fruit diameter (62.11mm), fruit length (25.3cm) and leaf N (0.7mg/g dry sample) and K (27.5mg/g dry sample), TSS (Brix) and phenolic contents (55.5mg GAE 100g -1 ) were also highest in the mixture of 50%:50% silt and NGC. Correlation revealed positive significant relation of germination with growth and yield related traits. From the above results, it is evident that the mixture of silt and NGC (50%:50%) can be used as a local media for cucumber seedling production. Further studies are needed to compare this local media as substitute of peat moss, using some other cucurbits as well.","PeriodicalId":371355,"journal":{"name":"Agrobiological Records","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115551415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study tested the efficacy of two grounded insecticidal plant powders against the emergence of Anopheles and Culex species. Larvae of mosquitoes were collected using 350mL deep ladles and scooping spoon from Ethiope East LGA, Delta State, Nigeria. The mosquito larvae were exposed to 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5g of Psoralea corylitolia and Sesamum radiatum in 100mL of water. This corresponded to 0.005, 0.01, and 0.015g/mL concentration of experimental set up respectively. Mosquitoes were exposed to these treatments in 20 larvae per concentration in quadruplicates. Mean mortality and time of mortality were recorded. Probit model was used to determine LT50 and LT95. Mortality of larvae increased as concentration and time increased. Highest mortality was recorded in Culex mosquitoes exposed to 1.5g of Psoralea corylitolia and was closely followed by Anopheles mosquitoes exposed to same concentration of Sesamum radiatum. The differences between the mortalities were highly significant (P<0.00001). Emergence depreciated as the concentration increased with high mortality especially with 0.5g of Psoralea corylitolia exposed to Anopheles mosquito larvae. The insecticidal test plants did not determine the sex of mosquitoes and it was not significant (F sex ratio=1.127; P=0.357). Physicochemical parameters supported the mortality of both larvae exposed to Sesamum radiatum from 30 minutes till end of the post experimental exposure. Lethal time for 50% of mosquitoes ranged from 31 to 5858min whereas LT95 ranged from 1435 to 10218min for the two insecticidal test plants respectively. There is need for more study with the trial of oil of Sesamum radiatum and the determination of the gas chromatograph of this novel plant to ascertain the active components.","PeriodicalId":371355,"journal":{"name":"Agrobiological Records","volume":"117 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122699565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chloroplast and Nucleus based transformation of transgenes in algae is possible after construct designing (including different markers and promoters) and codon optimization. For better recombination, different and effective promoters and reporter genes can be selected. Chloroplast mediated transformation is much more effective than nuclear based transformation for transgene analysis owing to higher copy number of chloroplast in unit area. Microalgae based products are excellent target for production of wide variety of bio products such as vaccines, antibiotics and drugs against different diseases. These alternative approaches facilitate enhanced biodiesel production through fast growth of microalgae in heterotrophic environment. Also, low risks are attributed owing to their nonhuman consumption property. Biosafety and risk assessment analysis should be carried out before releasing of genetically modified microalgae in the environment considering research ethical code. Microalgae provide cheap, efficient and high yielding alternatives to plants. The review emphasizes microalgae based expression approach with key steps involved in detail.","PeriodicalId":371355,"journal":{"name":"Agrobiological Records","volume":"100 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113990792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is an infectious disease that over two billion people are thought to have been exposed to and about 340 million of them are chronic carriers. This virus can be contracted through an infected person’s blood or body fluid, small open wounds, or mucosal surfaces. A review of the literature through PubMed, Google Scholar, clinicaltrials.gov, WHO, and ResearchGate was conducted to retrieve the primary studies published between 2015 and 2022. A model of Nigeria’s Budget allocation to the health sector from 2012 to 2022 was used to estimate the yearly budget allocation to health sectors in Nigeria yearly. About nine in ten Nigerians who live with chronic Hepatitis B virus are unaware of their infection status due to a lack of resources and low budget allocation and exclusion of HBV in financing strategy development. The 2012 to 2022 model breakdown showed that only US$ 6.44 was budgeted for every Nigerian's medical care for one year, making it almost impossible for an average Nigerian to get a proper hepatitis screening and diagnosis. However, the Nigerian Government has been able to make a move to begin the production of hepatitis vaccines to eradicate the burden of the disease. Despite the availability of reliable vaccines and treatment options, Nigeria is still saddled with treatment and management even though there are well-structured National Strategic plans.","PeriodicalId":371355,"journal":{"name":"Agrobiological Records","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117164290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disease incidence was reasonably less in tomato plants growing at 20% compost as compared to plants with 40% compost. Spore germination was less in Fol treated plant root exudates as compared to non-treated except where 40% compost was used as growing medium. Changing the growing conditions has influenced the root exudates. Tomato plants grown on 40% compost showed significantly enhanced tomato growth and yield. NGS technologies, such as the study of gene expression and regulation in plants has made extensive use of RNA and genome sequencing, revealing important details about the mechanisms governing these activities. Plant-pathogen interactions have been studied using NGS, which has also been utilized to find pertinent genes. By identifying the genes and genetic variants that are associated with plant resistance to diseases, researchers can cross different plant varieties that are more disease- and pest-resistant. This can help to reduce crop losses and improve crop yields. NGS has been used to study the genetics of plant populations, enabling researchers to identify genetic variations that are associated with important plant traits and to develop new plant varieties with improved performance or desirable characteristics. Despite some challenges, such as complexity of NGS technologies and the limited availability of reference genomes for many plant species, NGS has had a major impact on plant breeding and genetics and is likely to continue to play a significant part in the future evolution of novel plant varieties.","PeriodicalId":371355,"journal":{"name":"Agrobiological Records","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126794262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
