The transmission line method can be applied for this purpose and a quick response to a lightning stroke affecting several towers connected to a malt grid can be obtained. This study put a particular emphasis on the propagation of the lightning current from the striking point through various arms of the tower to the malt grid. The currents and voltages interacting on the vertical columns of the towers and on different points arbitrarily chosen on the malt grid are simulated. The main advantage of this method is that it shows the transient response of the pylon-malt grid and it was applied on a large portion of a transmission.","PeriodicalId":371125,"journal":{"name":"2020 5th International Conference on Renewable Energies for Developing Countries (REDEC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121859023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A significant portion of the energy consumed is the building’s need of hot domestic water, space heating and cooling. Whereby a promising solution for the reduction of fossil fuel energy consumption and its consequent greenhouse gas emissions is the use of solar energy systems. Being an important renewable energy source, façade integration technology such as, building integrated solar thermal (BIST) system enables the use of renewable solar energy within the building envelope. Thus, allowing a high coverage and enhanced energy efficiency under a Mediterranean climate. The façade is the main architectural feature; hence, the collectors cannot be added as a technical element only, aesthetic integration should be satisfactory. BIST systems also affect heat exchange through the building’s envelope in particular, when the operational condition is stagnation of water in the pipes. The aim of this paper is to study the impact of utilizing a BIST system on the façade of a building that is under stagnant conditions using a numerical simulation software TRNSYS-18. The model evaluates the performance of a flat plate solar collector (FPSC) by performing a parametric analysis of effective variables such as insulation thickness, angle of inclination, emissivity, and absorptivity. The main goal is to assess indoor air temperatures and wall temperatures of a modular room that represents a Lebanese office building. The prospect of this study is to validate the developed model with experimental data gathered under outdoor conditions for two experimental rooms built, one being the control room and the other room that is equipped with a FPSC.","PeriodicalId":371125,"journal":{"name":"2020 5th International Conference on Renewable Energies for Developing Countries (REDEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128772653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is because despite their capacity being available for generation, renewable energy plants are energy constrained due to the intermittancy and unavailability of renewable resource. In planning the power generation system and for estimating the reliability of the system it is of utmost importance to know the capacity value of renewable energy candidate-plants that may be used in expanding the generation system. There are several methods to estimate capacity value or credit and one of the most common and accurate method is effective load carrying capability (ELCC). In this paper a three-step procedure for the calculation of the capacity credit for PV system using the ELCC technique is implemented through a small system of three conventional generating units and a PV plant. The paper is written in a way that is easy to follow. In this way, it represents a stand-alone lesson on capacity credit that is appropriate for undergraduate students and useful for post-graduate students who wants to pursue research in this area.","PeriodicalId":371125,"journal":{"name":"2020 5th International Conference on Renewable Energies for Developing Countries (REDEC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129722951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many merits over AC grids, such as ease of control, higher efficiency and reliability make DC microgrid applications spread worldwide. Several researches address the control hierarchy and strategy in DC microgrids. On a local control level, Droop Control is a commonly used technique that ensures simultaneously DC bus voltage regulation and proper load sharing between operating converters. Yet, this paper investigates DC Microgrids control strategy from a different approach which is convenient, fundamentally, for remote islanded DC Microgrids. In such applications, the existence of the energy storage system (ESS) is substantial for a safe and stable Microgrid operation, especially, due to the intermittency and unpredictability of renewable energy sources (RESs) generated power. Hence, this paper proposes a simple, local control level, technique which is applied to a standard islanded DC Microgrid topology including: RESs, ESS and a back-up Diesel Generator (DG) as a traditional polluting source. The adopted control strategy main goal is to stabilize DC bus voltage, through ESS, and prevent battery excess discharge by connecting, temporarily, a back-up DG to the Microgrid as an additional source. When connected to the common DC bus, the DG takes charge of stabilizing the DC bus voltage. Once the power flow balance equation is reached again, the DG is disconnected instantly in order to reduce Carbone emissions. Finally, simulation tests are conducted in order to prove the viability and robustness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":371125,"journal":{"name":"2020 5th International Conference on Renewable Energies for Developing Countries (REDEC)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124300517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed research work is based on the nonlinear mathematical models of the wind turbine, the DFIG, the photovoltaic generator, the DC-DC boost converter and the three phase inverters. Fieldoriented control technique is used to obtain a simplified model that facilitates the design of controllers, and a backstepping control strategy is used to develop the control laws for power converters of the hybrid system. The effects of time, temperature and ß-cyclodextrin concentration on polyphenol recovery were studied. Results of the central composite design showed that the optimal level of phenolic compounds (78 mg GAE/g DM) and anthocyanins (36 mg C3G/g DM) were obtained after 30 min of extraction at 80°C with a 48 mg/mL concentration of ß-cyclodextrin. The identification of the two main phenolic compounds cyanidin 3-Oglucoside and peonidin 3-O-glucoside was conducted by highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
