OPEN ACCESS This article demonstrates a case that successfully rehabilitated the maxillary anterior missing tooth area with a single-tooth implant prosthesis by integrating three-dimensional face scan data into the computer-aided design sof tware. An extraoral transfer jig was self-invented to achieve this purpose, and a handheld face scanner app was used to accomplish economic benefits. Not only was the protocol convenient and efficient for both the patient and clinician, but it also resulted in a satisfactory outcome.","PeriodicalId":370954,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124301929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OPEN ACCESS Purpose: The aim of this review is to investigate various kinds of treatments which could be performed to recover non-ideal interocclusal space to ideal state prior to implant placements. Material and Methods: According to the definition of ideal interocclusal space reported previously, orthodontic, surgical and prosthodontic treatments to resolve an excessive or insufficient interocclusal space were reviewed. Among 899 articles searched by “Pubmed”, 34 articles were screened by inclusion/exclusion criteria. Results: In cases of having an insufficient interocclusal space, orthodontic intrusion which could be the least invasive treatment, segmental osteotomy which is the most invasive, and prosthodontic restoration can be possible options for the treatment. When an excessive interocclusal space is observed, some surgical techniques can be performed, including onlay block bone graf t and distraction osteotomy. In some cases, two or more treatments may be needed to have an ideal interocclusal space for implantation. Conclusion: The interdisciplinary approach may be needed for having a predictable result af ter dental implantation to recover a non-ideal interocclusal space to an appropriate state.","PeriodicalId":370954,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129107589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OPEN ACCESS Dental implants may be a valid prosthetic treatment to replace a single tooth, but there are some complications. One complication of dental implants is a f racture of the implant. This case report describes the implant fracture of a tissue-level implant. A patient with a tissue-level implant that was placed on the right maxillary first molar ten years ago visited the clinic because the implant prosthesis was fallen out with the fractured abutment screw. Panoramic radiograph confirmed the fracture of the abutment screw. After removing the screw fragment, a new restoration was applied. After two years, not only the screw but also the fixture was broken. The fixture f ragment was surgically removed. This case implies that screw fractures can be a precursor to fixture fractures and regular check-up is necessary for preventing implant fractures.","PeriodicalId":370954,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133393340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Maxillary anterior dentition is very challenging site for esthetic final restoration. It becomes more difficult at the site of labial bone resorption. A strategy for esthetics is necessary before extraction. Nineteen years old girl had maxillary anterior teeth with external root resorption and severe resorbed labial plate due to inflammation. Before extraction, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs were administered to relieve the infection and inflammation. Eight weeks af ter extraction, implant was placed using computer guided surgery. Guided bone regeneration with transmucosal healing was performed and then, fixed provisional restoration was delivered immediately. Sof t tissue molding was performed with modification of provisional crown for 6 months. We achieved esthetic final implant restoration in compromised maxillary anterior teeth.","PeriodicalId":370954,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116468575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OPEN ACCESS Custom abutment fabrication using computer aided design–computer aided manufacturing (CADCAM) technology is an efficient method that can be used to overcome complications associated with tilted implant installation and esthetics. This technology is becoming increasingly popular due to its convenience. However, CAD-CAM abutments are often misused because many clinicians did not consider the various factors involved in their use. Herein, we investigate the factors that must be considered during the fabrication of CAD-CAM abutments, problems using compatible abutments.","PeriodicalId":370954,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130935562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OPEN ACCESS EZ Crown system (EZC), a new retention type implant prosthetic system that has not only easy retrievability but also no complication due to residual cement, was developed to overcome the problems of conventional retention mechanisms (screw-retained, cement-retained, and combined screw-and cement-retained) of implant-supported fixed dental prostheses. In this case report, we introduce clinical experience with a 6-month follow-up of zirconia fixed dental prosthesis fabricated with EZC. Under normal oral function, no removal or fracture of the EZC prosthesis was observed and no inflammatory findings were observed in the peri-implant soft tissue due to residual cement. EZC is expected to be used in various clinical cases in the future.","PeriodicalId":370954,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131967685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
