It has been found that both EE and maximum spectral efficiency (SE) are desired. They are conflicting objectives, meaning that maximizing one will decrease the other. To tackle this issue, strategies for spectrum and energy optimization have been proposed, as well as green communication plans that aim to minimize the tradeoff between SE and EE. Research has been conducted on EE-oriented resource allocations to reduce energy usage while ensuring high-quality results. To do this, the Crow Search Optimization Algorithm (CSA) has been used. Simulation results have demonstrated that this proposed method is effective in finding the most suitable solution.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42517826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The difficulties faced by both autistic people and teachers are analyzed. These difficulties are calls to improve the technology that has been introduced into the daily life of children and adults with autism. As people are becoming familiar with technology by a very young age, inexpensive applications can be used through devices such as mobiles/tablets. These applications have the power to strengthen areas in which autistic individuals fall behind. The research articles we have studied present data over the last decade, and their results are applicable to a large portion of the autistic population. Data highlighted in current analysis may be useful for improving web applications targeting autistic individuals and their families.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41863238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wearable technology has become a potent instrument for improving healthcare efficiency and lowering costs as the prevalence of an ageing population and the need for technology-assisted care increase. By analysing gait patterns and promoting a healthy lifestyle in age-friendly settings, this study aims to investigate how valid and trustworthy wearable devices, in conjunction with technology-assisted care, can facilitate the monitoring and improvement of the health of the elderly population. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 standards for data inclusion and exclusion are used in the study, which collects data from the Scopus database. The results show that wearable technology, which offers two main device categories—those intended for healthcare professionals and those aimed at consumers—plays a critical role in gait-pattern analysis. These gadgets offer robust data-collecting capabilities, allowing for precise evaluation and tracking of walking habits. Furthermore, the incorporation of wearable technology with eHealth solutions enhances the quality of life for the aged population by enabling them to live in settings that are age-friendly and successfully manage their health. The study also emphasises how critical it is to use reliable wearable technology to address the diversity of health issues and the occurrence of chronic diseases among the senior population. According to the study’s findings, wearable technologies have great promise for promoting the health and well-being of senior citizens. To meet the unique requirements and problems of the ageing population and to guarantee the successful integration of wearable devices into healthcare practices, more research and development are needed. In the end, wearable technology has enormous potential to revolutionise aged care and enhance health outcomes in ageing-friendly settings.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42299732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study used the mixed-methods sequential explanatory design. In determining the subject of the research—namely, 251 children consisting of second graders and fifth graders in Jakarta, Indonesia—we used purposive sampling. Purposive sampling was also used to determine the research location—namely, two public primary schools and two private primary schools in Central and South Jakarta. As for the data collection, questionnaires, interviews, and observations were employed, resulting in quantitative data presented statistically in tables and charts. The regression analysis performed to figure out the social development of the primary school students in Jakarta resulted in a score of 0.000, suggesting that the students possess social capabilities and skills displayed when they are among their peers—namely, understanding the emotional conditions of their friends, accepting themselves, and maintaining friendship. The students are also capable of comprehending the thought, feeling, and behavior of their friends, thus enabling them to develop well-being skills. A regression analysis score of 0.001 suggests that gadget usage at home and at school influence the linguistic development of the primary school students. Our qualitative analysis corroborates the regression score by suggesting that gadget usage improves the growth and development of the social and linguistic behavior of the primary school students. In light of the impacts of gadget usage on the social and linguistic development of the primary school students, it is highly recommended that both the school and the parents put in place a code of ethics and educational guidance regarding gadget usage to mitigate the negative impacts of gadgets on students.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44796051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, inadequate laboratory facilities affect students’ abilities to learn. This study aimed to investigate the effect of virtual labs on students’ learning achievements and their perceptions of virtual physics lab activities. The study was carried out with 240 first-year engineering students enrolled in a physics laboratory course at a private university. In the study, data on learning achievement were collected from quizzes completed by students after the experiments. The data on the perception of the students about the virtual laboratory were collected at the end of the term, with the Virtual Laboratory Perception Scale shared online. The research results indicated that simulation-based physics experiments could positively affect students’ learning achievements. In addition, it was revealed that most students had very positive perceptions of virtual laboratory activities. The results obtained from this study can guide educators to prepare more effective laboratory environments.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43109037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Learning management systems (LMSs) have emerged as valuable tools that facilitate the management of learning and training processes while providing support for learning administration. However, LMS platforms often offer limited functionality for monitoring students’ instructional progress, which is essential for understanding how learners interact with courses and materials. As a result, identifying at-risk students, tracking their progress, and intervening when necessary can be challenging. The substantial amount of data generated by LMS platforms can be transformed into meaningful indicators that allow for monitoring learners’ progress and enhancing their self-regulation. Our research project focuses on developing a set of pedagogical indicators using learning analytics to monitor students’ progress. We present a case study where we tracked and monitored the progress of students in the Web Technologies course on the e-campus platform at Cadi Ayyad University (Morocco), using a set of student performance indicators (SPIs). The findings of this study suggest that employing SPIs can help faculty members identify underperforming students, project their progress, and anticipate those at risk, ultimately enabling them to provide timely interventions to support learners’ progress.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44744917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, patients face a significant risk of two other illnesses: cataract and glaucoma. In this article, we examined the diagnosis of these three eye diseases caused by diabetes and compared four approaches to classify these conditions. The proposed approaches are based on the transfer learning technique. We started by filtering, preparing, and augmenting the dataset, then applied transfer learning for feature extraction using two different architectures: VGG16 and RESNET50. We also investigated the impact of using contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization on the accuracy and precision of the models. This filter was used in a pre-training step for diabetic retinopathy diagnosis and in this paper proved its efficiency for glaucoma and cataract too. The final layers were replaced by Random Forest for classification. Models performed acceptable accuracies of 89.17% and 85.64% without operating contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization and achieved better results when applying contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization, with an accuracy of 97.48% and 96.66% for VGG16 and RESNET 50, respectively.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43132982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implemented system consists of three gas sensors installed in the joints of the gas pipes, gas cylinders, and injectors for the purpose of gas leak monitoring. In addition, the LM 35 temperature sensor is situated over the gas cylinder to monitor its temperature. The implemented system can provide three types of alarm: the first type sends a text message to the car owner’s phone and emits an audible alarm signal. The message reaches the service center also. The second type sends messages via Bluetooth to the user’s phone or to the smart screen on the vehicle’s dashboard, with an alert that the engine must be turned off (emergency case). The last warning sends an overheating alarm signal, utilizing a temperature sensor when the temperature of the gas cylinder exceeds 50°C to provide protection and prevent a possible explosion. In practice, it was found that gas sensors should be placed less than 5 cm from the monitored site, and the best performance at work was under 55°C. It was also found that the best performance of the GSM unit is under 55°C.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48585130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article aims to identify the best algorithm to classify the satisfaction of university students applying the K-fold cross-validation technique, comparing the error rates of the performance metrics before and after its application. The method used began with the collection of student opinions on the teaching performance of the social network Twitter during an academic semester. Then, sentiment analysis was used for data processing, through which it was possible to categorize the opinions of the students into “satisfied” or “dissatisfied.” The results showed that the algorithm with the lowest error rate in its performance metric was the support vector machine (SVM). In addition, it was identified that its classification probability reached an accuracy of 91.76%. It is concluded that SVM classification using K-fold cross-validation will contribute to determining which factors associated with the teacher’s didactic strategies should be improved in each class session, since traditional surveying techniques have shortcomings.","PeriodicalId":36900,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Online and Biomedical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43982469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
