Proposed device is designed having Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm in mind and connected to the internet via IEEE 802.11. It uses Google speech to text (STT) and text to speech (TTS) web services for voice analysis and synthesis. Hardware prototype description is given in detail. Key aspects like price, performance, memory footprint and energy consumption are analyzed on a case study. We discuss potential applications when such a device is deployed as an interface of home automation system.","PeriodicalId":368742,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 1st International Workshop on Consumer Electronics (CE WS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125045698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Irregularities in the radio signal propagation pattern, expressed in a form of received signal strength indicator's (RSSI) variations can indicate possible presence of a human within the existing radio network. In this paper we propose DFHP detection method based on frequency analysis of RSSI variations. The main advantage of the proposed method compared to human detection method based on information entropy is the possibility to determine human presence from furniture layout change. The main drawback is a disability to recognize the absence from the presence of a motionless person in an environment. However, the combination of these two approaches defines a robust and cost-effective DFHP detection method that can be used in various smart home systems without the need for specific hardware installation and exploitation procedures.","PeriodicalId":368742,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 1st International Workshop on Consumer Electronics (CE WS)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123524813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typical appliance fields will be: collisions avoidance with any kind of object (people included), parking assisted maneuvers and many more. Indeed various countries are becoming more and more concerned about road traffic safety and therefore through its “Advanced Program”, EuroNCAP rewards vehicle manufacturers who employ Advanced Safety Technologies that assists the driver. This paper had mainly two different goals: (1) to describe the implementation of a state of art Structure from Motion pipeline able to run in real time with embedded fish-eye camera, which includes nonlinear optimization (i.e. local bundle adjustment); (2) to demonstrate quantitatively its performances on a synthetic test space specifically designed for its characterization in term of accuracy.","PeriodicalId":368742,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 1st International Workshop on Consumer Electronics (CE WS)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116329957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This also applies to mobile devices. A major limiting factor is the size of the active area of the display element. Solutions of that handicap often require user interaction. Increasing the size of the display unit increases the size of the device itself. The size-larger devices reduce comfort of their normal use. In this paper we present our experience in application implementation for mobile device. We have encountered some problems related to visualization restrictions. To exploit the technological potential of a mobile device we have implemented an application which had to improve motivational aspects by gamification.","PeriodicalId":368742,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 1st International Workshop on Consumer Electronics (CE WS)","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124188659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Architectural Design, Urban Planning, and Construction Engineering Domains, even when treated separately, are extremely demanding targets for sophisticated software tools development. While managing the complex urban blocks interactions in the contemporary city configuration, it is particularly important that these three domains cooperate closely. The application of a smart house paradigm is dominantly focused on the internal facility parameters monitoring and control. For the subset of these internal parameters, like for example: daylight illumination; privacy; and natural ventilation, the facility (building) environment impacts analysis is unavoidable. In this article, based on the System-of-Systems paradigm, we present the model of a smart house environment impact analysis framework suitable for Model Driven Simulations of Building (house) Attributes. The proposed framework architecture is designed to support the cooperation/collaboration of software tools. The verification has shown that it may be effectively used for the impact analysis of arbitrary external (urban block specific) attributes on their internal state and the behavior (specific for a single building).","PeriodicalId":368742,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 1st International Workshop on Consumer Electronics (CE WS)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114696797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
