Such a field can serve as a reference standard for calibrating fi eld-strength meters e mploying small receiving loop anten nas in the frequency range 30 Hz to 30 MHz. This formula inc ludes correction terms for fr equency (d ue to the finite time of propagation), as well as corrections for the finite radii of both the transmitting and receiving loops. Other formulas appearing in the literature often fail to include such correc tions whic h can result in errors of up to 20 pe rcent and more in computing standard-fie ld values. The NBS formula is de rived by ex panding the integrand of the re tarded vector potentia l into an infinite se ri es of sphe rica l Ha nkel fun c tions of in creasing o rde r. The resulting series express ion is in e rror by less than 0.2 pe rcent , is rap idl y co nverging and si mple to use without recourse to a table of fun c tions or a compute r.","PeriodicalId":367668,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research of the National Bureau of Standards, Section C: Engineering and Instrumentation","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1967-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126381270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The phasemeter involves a logic circuit whi ch can be assembled eas ily from co mm e rcially avail able logic modules without the necess ity of a proficiency in electronics. The output of the logic circ uit is read into a conventional digital preset frequency· ratio meter. The determination is absolute and utili zes a time base. Accordingly , no calibration against a phase standard is necessary. Th e agreement between this phasemeter and a quality phase shifter was found to be within ± O.Olo at 400 Hz, which is the accuracy s pecified by the manufacturer of the phase shifter. Considerable abil it y to ignore signal imperfections is inhere nt in thi s device.","PeriodicalId":367668,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research of the National Bureau of Standards, Section C: Engineering and Instrumentation","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1967-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131857650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
