Gómez","doi":"10.1090/hmath/044/10","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1090/hmath/044/10","url":null,"abstract":"Introducción Entre el 8 y el 11 de mayo de 1994 tuvo lugar en la Universidad de Maryland la Conferencia ICMI 1994 alrededor del tema ¿Qué es la investigación en educación matemática y cuáles son sus resultados? El ICMI 1 es la principal organización internacional de educación matemática. Además de ser el organizador de los ICME 2 , los congresos mundiales de educación matemática que tienen lugar cada cuatro años 3 , el ICMI organiza estudios sobre diferentes temas de la educación matemática. Estos estudios toman como base los artículos que se presentan en una reunión (“la conferencia”) y tienen como resultado una o más publicaciones. Las últimas publicaciones (Niss, 1992 y Niss, 1993) son el producto de una conferencia ICMI sobre valoración (“assessment”) que tuvo lugar en España, en 1992, con la participación 80 investigadores provenientes de 25 países. La conferencia de este año tenía el mismo propósito: reunir a un conjunto de investigadores en educación matemática; abrir el espacio para presentaciones y discusiones; y producir una publicación sobre el tema. La conferencia fue promocionada a través de un documento de discusión que fue publicado en las más importantes revistas de educación matemática. Tuve la oportunidad de ser invitado a este evento. Este artículo presenta mis impresiones acerca del contenido, las discusiones y algunas conclusiones de la conferencia. Dado que la publicación, producto de esta reunión, no estará disponible antes de 1995, considero importante informar a nuestra comunidad sobre las diversas posiciones que algunos de los más importantes investigadores en la disciplina tienen sobre la investigación en educación matemática. Este artículo se encuentra dividido en dos partes. En la primera, se presenta una descripción general de lo sucedido en la conferencia y algunas impresiones y conclusiones acerca de la misma. En la segunda parte, que será publicada en el próximo número de este boletín, haré un resumen de la posición de Paul Ernest con respecto a las dos preguntas en cuestión.
