Currently, there is a lack of transparency in the distribution and transaction processes of online food trade. The global food supply chain industry has enormous hurdles because of this problem, as well as a lack of trust among individuals in the sector and a reluctance to share information. This study aims to develop a blockchain-based strawberry supply chain (SSC) framework to create a transparent and secure system for tracking the movement of strawberries from the farm to the consumer. Using Ethereum smart contracts, the proposed solution monitors participant interactions, triggers events, and logs transactions to promote transparency and informed decision-making. The smart contracts also govern interactions between vendors and consumers, such as monitoring the status of Internet of Things (IoT) containers for food supply chains and notifying consumers. This study aims to investigate the effects of HRW on the quality of fresh-cut Gastrodia elata during low-temperature (4°C) storage. The results indicate that HRW treatment inhibited the decrease in weight loss and the increase in respiration rate, and also slowed down the decrease in total acidity and total soluble solids. HRW treatment could reduce the generation of superoxide anions and hydrogen peroxide, enhance the activity and expression of antioxidant-related enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione reductase, monodehydroascorbate reductase, and dehydroascorbate reductase, and increase the content of non-enzymatic antioxidant substances, ascorbic acid and glutathione, while decreasing the activity and expression of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase. Furthermore, HRW treatment not only inhibited the reduction in ADP and ATP content and energy charge but also attenuated the increase in AMP content. It also slowed down the decrease in the activities of H+-ATPase, succinate dehydrogenase, Ca2+-ATPase, and cytochrome C oxidase. Yet, plant diversity may strongly depend on the identity of the gardeners and their knowledge of plant identification and plant uses.In this study, we used botanical surveys and homegardener interviews to explore plant diversity in homegardens in coffee-producing regions of Colombia, and to examine how homegardener identity influences their knowledge of plants, plant uses, and motivations for maintaining a homegarden.We collected information in three villages in Cauca, Colombia and interviewed campesino (n = 30) and indigenous (n = 30) homegardeners. Half of the respondents from each social group were women and half were men.Of the 566 plant species that we detected in botanical surveys, the most recognized spontaneous herbs among homegardeners were “papunga” (Bidens pilosa, n = 38), “lechuguilla” (Emilia sonchifolia, n = 32), and “escoba” (Sida acuta, n = 31). Homegardeners identified multiple uses of spontaneous herbs including for food, material, medicine, plants for bees, and other environmental, conservation, or social uses. In addition, three different groups of gardeners emerged from social groupings and interview responses: (1) indigenous men with little knowledge of the uses of spontaneous herbs; (2) indigenous and campesino women who considered it beneficial to have flowers and crops for pollinators; and (3) male farmers who described detailed mutualistic plant-pollinator interactions that benefit crops, and who use spontaneous herbs to maintain soil moisture. In conclusion, homegardeners kept very diverse gardens and identified spontaneous herbs and pollinator functions, but this strongly depended on age, knowledge, and social group. To address this, this study aimed to enhance its value by creating low-salt smoked products with natural bioactive compounds from seafood and forest sources. The fish filets were divided into four groups: one as a control, and the others were treated with various bioactive extract solutions, specifically pine bark, mussels, and microalgae. After 15 days of storage at 4°C, significant differences in properties were observed. Moisture and salt had an inverse relationship, with decreasing moisture and pH over time. Oxidation levels remained acceptable, although sensory quality was affected by storage. Microbiological analysis uncovered high contamination levels in certain samples at specific points in time, although no pathogens such as Salmonella spp. or Listeria monocytogenes were detected. While microalgae extract was the most powerful antioxidant, its performance was hampered by the poor sensory scores. On the other hand, pine bark extract was the most acceptable from a sensory point of view and revealed some antimicrobial inhibition. Farmers play a crucial role as key implementers and active participants in this process, highlighting the significance of their awareness of carbon emission reduction. Straw, as the primary source of carbon emissions in rural areas, is a key component of rural carbon emission reduction efforts. This study focuses on 26 representative villages in Heilongjiang Province to analyze the current status of straw production and resource utilization in the context of rural carbon emission reduction. By employing the planned behavior theory in combination with structural equation modeling, the study aims to explore the analysis and prediction of farmers’ willingness to reduce carbon emissions. The findings reveal that maize and rice crops are the primary sources of straw in Heilongjiang Province, with the existing policies primarily focusing on the practice of returning straw to the field. However, the burning of straw in the field remains prevalent due to factors such as immature conversion technologies, high costs, low benefits, and limited recycling rates of enterprises, subsequently leading to increased carbon emissions. Moreover, farmers’ habits of stacking or burning straw in the field significantly influence straw utilization and carbon emission reduction awareness. To address these issues, the government should formulate appropriate straw recycling policies based on the specific circumstances and needs of farmers. Additionally, implementing comprehensive straw utilization policies becomes more effective when farmers have positive perceptions and awareness of carbon emission reduction and straw recycling. In conclusion, the government should develop diverse modes of straw resource utilization and field management tailored to local conditions. The emergence of Integrated Water-Fertilizer Systems (IWFS) thus presents a significant innovation in boosting the efficiency of chemical fertilizer usage, necessitating in-depth examination.Utilizing a rigorous analytical framework that combines meta-frontier production function with a Two-Stage Residual Inclusion model, this study delves into the multi-dimensional impacts of IWFS adoption on fertilizer use efficiency among cotton growers in Xinjiang, China.Empirical evidence demonstrates that those who have adopted IWFS achieve a fertilizer use efficiency score of 0.452, markedly outstripping the mean score of 0.382 among non-adopters. Intriguingly, efficiency increases proportionately with the size of the farm, hinting at a sophisticated interplay between the adoption of technology and operational parameters.The research further unveils additional benefits including augmented cotton yields and diminished labor inputs among adopters. This research aims to understand the role of bio-districts in sustainable development, particularly in relation to social impacts. It does so by developing a framework for assessing social impacts in the context of alternative food systems. To this end, a two-step methodology is adopted. In the first part, a systematic literature review is carried out according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol. It presents the state of the art in social impact assessment of bio-districts, identifying the approaches and indicators used to assess social standards, codes of good practice and, more generally, the factors influencing social sustainability in rural areas. In addition, a set of social themes is developed and validated through a content analysis to uncover the trends in the debate on social sustainability in bio-districts. In the second part, promising analytical frameworks and tools from the literature are compared on the basis of how deeply they assess social issues related to bio-districts. Finally, a description of the main steps that should be taken to adapt existing tools and frameworks to the local context is presented. A detailed framework specifically addressing the social impacts of bio-districts was not found in the literature. The soil analysis revealed that field exhibited slightly acidic soil with normal electrical conductivity but suffered from severe deficiencies in total nitrogen and organic carbon. The same field presents common issue of low cation exchange capacity, indicating limited nutrient-holding capacity. Furthermore, both fields displayed very low levels of total nitrogen (<0.1%), signaling a nitrogen deficiency. Available phosphorus was rated as medium (16.8 mg kg−1 soil). Trace elements fluctuated and could be managed based on specific crop requirements. The factors at different levels were: (1) sowing dates – (i) 25th November 2022, (ii) 15th December 2022, and (iii) 4th January 2023; and (2) Phosphorus levels – (i) control, (ii) 20 kg P ha−1, (iii) 40 kg P ha−1, and (iv) 60 kg P ha−1. Regarding cotton growth and yield, sowing dates significantly (p < 0.001) influenced plant height, gin turnout, lint yield, number of bolls per plant, and boll weight while phosphorus levels did not exhibit significant effects. Earlier sowing dates resulted in higher yields, albeit with variations in yield components. Interactions showed that growth and yields were only numerically higher in the middle sowing date at higher levels of phosphorus applied. The sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 has enhanced health cognition among residents, impacting household food consumption patterns. In this study, we analyzed data from 6,946 urban households in 14 cities of Liaoning Province to examine the consumption behavior of urban households regarding 4 categories of forest food (forest nuts, forest fruits and vegetables, forest drinks, and forest medicines) before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Various empirical methods were employed, including the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM), Ordinal Logit Model, Mediation Effect Model, and Moderation Effect Model. The results revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic positively impacted the “willingness-behavior” consumption behavior of urban residents toward forest food. Health cognition played a positive mediating role in influencing residents’ willingness to pay (WTP) for forest food during the pandemic. Per capita income had a negative moderating effect on the actual purchasing behavior of urban residents toward forest food. It endangers people’s health when they eat foods containing lincomycin residue, especially the frequent consumption of milk and chicken products containing lincomycin. Hence, it is extremely important to evaluate the content of lincomycin in food samples. However, a direct analysis of lincomycin in milk and chicken is quite difficult because of its very low concentration level and the presence of undesirable matrix effects. Therefore, selective and efficient extraction of lincomycin from complex food samples prior to its quantification is required.In this study, lincomycin-imprinted silica nanoparticles were prepared according to boronate affinity-based template-immobilized surface imprinting. Silica nanoparticles and boronic acid ligands 3-fluoro-4-formylphenylboronic acid were used as supporting materials and functional monomers, respectively. The prepared lincomycin-imprinted silica nanoparticles exhibited several significant results, such as good specificity, high binding capacity (19.45 mg/g), fast kinetics (6 min), and low binding pH (pH 5.0) toward lincomycin. The reproducibility of lincomycin-imprinted silica nanoparticles was satisfactory. The lincomycin-imprinted silica nanoparticles could still be reused after seven adsorption–desorption cycles, which indicated high chemical stability. In addition, the recoveries of the proposed method for lincomycin at three spiked levels of analysis in milk and chicken were 93.3–103.3% and 90.0–100.0%, respectively.The prepared lincomycin-imprinted silica nanoparticles are feasible for the recognition of target lincomycin with low concentrations in real food samples such as milk and chicken.
