A. paniculata (Nilavembu) extracts exhibited varying degrees of inhibitory activity against the growth of all the microorganisms. Hence, this research was made to assess and compare the effect of Nilavembu extract (A. paniculata) with 12.5% xylitol mouthwash and control group (0.7 M saline mouthwash) on dental plaque and gingival inflammation. Materials and Methods: A double-blinded parallel-arm randomized clinical trial was done among 40 participants aged 20–30 years. Participants were randomly allotted into four groups: Group 1 - Nilavembu extract with 0.7 M saline wash; Group 2 - Nilavembu extract with 12.5% xylitol mouthwash; Group 3-0.7 M saline mouthwash; and Group 4-12.5% xylitol mouthwash. The plaque and gingival status were assessed using oral hygiene simplified index and Loe and Silness index at baseline and end of the study (7th day). Statistical analysis was carried out to compare the effect of all four treatments groups using the Kruskal–Wallis test, Wilcoxon sign rank test, and post hoc test; P ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Among four groups, Group 2 showed a greater mean reduction followed by Group 1 in oral hygiene index score and gingival score. There was a statistically significant difference between the scores of the four groups. Conclusion: It can be concluded that A. paniculata (Nilavembu extract) could serve as a potential herbal alternative in the therapeutic management of dental plaque and gingivitis.","PeriodicalId":365865,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Primary Care Dentistry and Oral Health","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126157670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Saving mutilated teeth and using them for overdenture has been a good alternative to the conventional dentures. Using customized attachments improved the retention of the prosthesis. The new material which has been widely used for implant-supported overdentures has been used with tooth-supported overdentures for improved function and comfort. A 14-year-old patient reported with difficulty in eating due to decayed teeth. Customized copings were fabricated on endodontically treated teeth 13, 23, 33, and 43 and overlay prosthesis was conventionally fabricated. The intaglio surfaces corresponding to the abutments were lined with Multisil primer and retention. Sil 600 and the patient were asked to bite to aid the removal of excess material. A 65-year-old patient complained of missing teeth and inability to chew. A thimble-shaped coping was fabricated on endodontically treated teeth 33, 34, and 43. Subsequent procedures were similar to the aforementioned case. The use of polyvinyl siloxane-based resilient liners has proven to be able to provide clinically satisfactory retention in patients with compromised manual dexterity. Significant results, in retention with the use of two different coping designs and single-matrix system, masticatory efficiency, and esthetics have been observed and economical alternative to the use of expensive attachments.","PeriodicalId":365865,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Primary Care Dentistry and Oral Health","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131909260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tongue is a muscular organ present in the floor of the oral cavity; involved in speech, chewing, carrying taste sensations, and deglutition. Tongue also plays a major role in identifying and diagnosing underlying systemic diseases. Therefore, a complete information regarding the examination, diagnosis, and management of tongue abnormalities become important. Tongue abnormalities can be seen at any age and therefore classified as developmental and acquired (inflammatory, infective, traumatic, environmental, autoimmune, and benign and malignant tumors). However, some common abnormalities of tongue in the case of children have not been described in literature yet. Hence, the present review will focus on the abnormities of tongue and their management in children along with presentation of some of the cases reported to the department.","PeriodicalId":365865,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Primary Care Dentistry and Oral Health","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126082638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It develops on the gingiva and alveolar ridge. It could represent a local reaction to trauma or irritation. Management requires a surgical excision of the lesion and elaborate recall due to possible recurrence. This article describes the clinical and histopathological features and management of PGCG as it appeared in the maxillary anterior region of a 35-year-old female patient with a chief complaint of painless swelling in the anterior maxillary region. Intraoral periapical radiograph showed the features that suggested a soft-tissue lesion causing cupping resorption of the maxilla. The lesion was completely excised, biopsy was performed after that, under local anesthesia, and the tissue was examined histopathologically. The lesion was diagnosed as PGCG after thorough clinical, radiologic, and histopathologic examinations. A surgical excision of the growth, including its base, as well as the eradication of any underlying causes should be included in the therapy due to its fast growth pattern and propensity to resorb bone with subsequent tooth movement. Regular postsurgical follow-up is crucial to preventing the tumor from reoccurring.","PeriodicalId":365865,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Primary Care Dentistry and Oral Health","volume":"32 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130590489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The anomaly is more common in females than in males and observed in both dentitions. The maxilla is more commonly affected than the mandible, and the condition is, in most of the cases, limited to a quadrant only. Clinically affected teeth show yellowish-brown discoloration and pitted appearance. On radiograph, the teeth affected by RO look like “ghost teeth” due to reduced thickness of enamel and dentin. In this article, an 8-year-old female patient with clinical and radiographic features of RO was described.","PeriodicalId":365865,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Primary Care Dentistry and Oral Health","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131140919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
