To do that, they have to be measured along side tangibles whose measurements must also be evaluated as to, how well, they serve the objectives of the decision maker. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a theory of measurement through pairwise comparisons and relies on the judgements of experts to derive priority scales. It is these scales that measure intangibles in relative terms. The comparisons are made using a scale of absolute judgements that represents, how much more, one element dominates another with respect to a given attribute. The judgements may be inconsistent, and how to measure inconsistency and improve the judgements, when possible to obtain better consistency is a concern of the AHP. The derived priority scales are synthesised by multiplying them by the priority of their parent nodes and adding for all such nodes. An illustration is included.","PeriodicalId":365774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Services Sciences","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124872968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the benefits of investing in these asset classes are analysed by applying models that recognise higher-order moments or the whole return distribution like the power-utility, Omega- and Score-value model. Trying to obtain more general results than those we can find from historical data only, we modelled the asset returns by Markov switching processes and did a Monte Carlo study. Within this design, we analysed the optimal allocations to hedge funds and REITs statically and with monthly reallocations based on data from Asian markets. Our main findings are that in the static case the utility model and the Score model are dominant, whereas the mean-variance model appears to be the model of the first choice in the dynamic case. In both settings, hedge funds are the most dominant asset of the optimal portfolios. REITs are mainly used for diversification and added at comparably lower rates.","PeriodicalId":365774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Services Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131094572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This industrial case study presents an example of multiple stakeholder value consideration in service innovation. The paper employs a case study methodology, and the data was collected from workshops, interviews, and thematic discussions. The main result of this case study is a description of a service innovation process that considers stakeholders and multiple stakeholder value, and that offers new perspectives on strategies for managing stakeholder relationships. The findings of this study highlight the emergence of service innovation through a complex, multidimensional and networked value co-creation.","PeriodicalId":365774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Services Sciences","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132286527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, efficient method for evaluating the lost sales in different time-periods has not been proposed. In this paper, a mathematical model to estimate the opportunity cost based on association rules is proposed considering cross-selling effect in various time-spans. A numerical example is used to explain the new approach. The results show that the proposed approach can gain a well insight into the cross-selling effect among items and is applicable for large sized transaction database.","PeriodicalId":365774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Services Sciences","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127426334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A systematic process was used to gather data in the form of articles published in different management journals that are available online through open and resourced databases. Further, through an impartial cross-referencing method these articles were categorised and tabulated under eight headings such as type and period of publication, application area, journals, data collection methods and sampling technique, statistical method, antecedents, dimensions and consequences of CE. The findings reveal the thrust areas of CE, their results, implications, and limitations. The research gaps are discussed that may be acknowledged by the future researchers. Based on the research findings, the paper concludes with a generalised framework for CE measurement which may be applicable to online and offline experiences of the customers.","PeriodicalId":365774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Services Sciences","volume":"46 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115662442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Services that heavily rely on professional knowledge are needed by Japanese manufacturing corporations (JMCs) for solving different problems. This article explores the impact of the utilisation of KIBS on the innovation of JMCs in Japan. The goal of the paper is threefold: first, we focus on the different divisions of JMCs that have dealt with KIBS and analyse the impact of KIBS on their innovation respectively; secondly, we separate the types of innovation into radical innovation and incremental innovation and then analyse what and how the service delivery method contributes to each type of innovation; finally we discuss in more depth the details of an efficient service delivery method. The results show that firstly, KIBS contribute more to the radical innovation of a client rather than incremental innovation; and secondly, face–to–face is the most efficient method of service delivery from KIBS to the JMCs.","PeriodicalId":365774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Services Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121061425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We specifically apply principles of contingent-claims analysis to underline the value of flexibility, i.e., the real options, embedded in service level agreements (SLAs) and maintenance & repair investments in the context of aerospace and defence. We focus on path-dependent and complex contingent-claims, to show how the design of 'exotic' type options in service investments can provide valuable insurance policies against operational and financial risks for the customer, in addition to enhancing providers' incentives from superior service performance. For illustration, we highlight examples of barrier, lookback, compound, chooser and extendible options as flexibility clauses/alternatives for service provision in defence contracts.","PeriodicalId":365774,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Services Sciences","volume":"224 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116075825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
