In this paper we propose a multipath decorrelating SIC (MD-SIC) with differentially coherent equal gain combining (DEGC). The convergence issues and bit error rate (BER) of the MSIC scheme are analysed. Numerical results show that the proposed detector performs closely to the ideal decorrelating detector with a moderate number of stages.","PeriodicalId":365086,"journal":{"name":"1999 2nd IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (Cat. The method works by estimating the relative timing offsets of the data clocks of the different up-link signals and using them to design a bank of filters operating at symbol rate whose outputs can be added to give a resynchronized signal. The filters can be designed to minimize the noise gain as well as force this signal to adhere to a signal model used very often in co-channel signal separation methods.","PeriodicalId":365086,"journal":{"name":"1999 2nd IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (Cat. The unknown channel time variations are decomposed using optimal unconditional bases such as orthonormal wavelet bases. The time synchronization consists of FFT symbol time recovery and sampling clock recovery. In general, symbol time recovery is carried out before sampling clock adjustments. The problem for the time synchronization errors is the sample rob/stuff phenomenon due to symbol time offset. Thus a more efficient synchronization algorithm is required. This paper introduces a new time synchronization algorithm for multi-carrier CDMA signals, which consists of symbol time recovery and sampling clock adjustment using the pilot symbols. Our algorithm is performed, and validated by computer simulation under both AWGN and multipath fading channel. We demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can obtain two time synchronization errors simultaneously.","PeriodicalId":365086,"journal":{"name":"1999 2nd IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (Cat. It is shown that with the proper use of the multiple stack algorithm (MSA), exploiting the redundant structure of the signal received by multiple antenna array elements can enhance the uniqueness of the sequence estimation, thereby significantly reducing the frame erasure probability. Three new algorithms are derived for vector channel identification, the results of which are used to calculate the Fano metric for SSE. The first algorithm uses just a temporal reference, and others use both temporal and spatial references. The impacts of using the temporal and spatial references are investigated in terms of the channel identification accuracy as well as overall frame erasure rate (ERR) and bit error rate (BER). The results of computer simulations are presented to compare the performances of the three algorithms.","PeriodicalId":365086,"journal":{"name":"1999 2nd IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (Cat. This problem arises in a cellular system using the time division multiple access (TDMA) scheme where the base stations are assumed to be synchronized and the radius of the cells is limited to a few kilometers. After the partial equalization of the transmit pulse shape filter which compensates for the intersymbol interference (ISI) introduced by the GMSK modulation (used in GSM), the receiver should detect the active training sequences by a synchronization step and then estimates the corresponding channel impulse responses by the standard least squares (LS) method. The spatio-temporal receiver used in our simulations for demodulating the signal of interest modeling the interferers as Gaussian colored noise is the interference cancelling matched filter (ICMF) which we introduced previously.","PeriodicalId":365086,"journal":{"name":"1999 2nd IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (Cat. To improve the resolution, model based techniques have been introduced (high resolution methods), but they are very sensitive to noise correlation and they assume underlying data model. We develop a parameterized maximum likelihood (PML) technique, based on a knowledge of the transmitted signal. We develop the exact PML approach and present its implementation by a Gauss Newton procedure. Simulations on data sets are examined. The performances are compared to the Cramer Rao bound. Its superiority over the traditional matched filter (MF) and the conditional maximum likelihood (CML) is shown. The paper concludes with the improvements introduced by a knowledge of the transmitted signals.","PeriodicalId":365086,"journal":{"name":"1999 2nd IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (Cat. We present a DFE architecture with forward and feedback filters which operate in the passband so that equalization can be done completely independent of carrier phase. The constant modulus algorithm (CMA) error term is used to update the forward and feedback equalizer parameters of a linear infinite impulse response (IIR) equalizer structure in order to acquire an equalizer parameterization which is in the neighborhood of the optimum DFE setting. Methods for coarse tuning of a decision directed (DD) carrier loop during acquisition are also described. Laboratory experiments with test silicon demonstrate the similarity in equalizer parameter settings between CMA in a linear IIR structure with those of the DD least mean squares algorithm (DD-LMS) in a linear IIR structure and in a non-linear DFE structure.","PeriodicalId":365086,"journal":{"name":"1999 2nd IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (Cat. Due to its complexity, performance analysis of the ML detector has relied heavily on approximation bounds obtained by the technique of error sequence decomposition. In this paper, exact formulas for the error probabilities of the ML detector are developed. The exact solutions are in the form of multi-dimensional integrals, and it is possible to numerically compute them. Simulation examples are used to verify the theoretical results.","PeriodicalId":365086,"journal":{"name":"1999 2nd IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (Cat.
