Each mobile node is required to maintain route caches that contain the source routes of which the mobile is aware. Although DSR can respond a route quickly, it yields a long delay when a route is rebuilt. This is because when source node receives RERR packet, it will try to find alternative routes from route cache. If alternative routes are not available, source node, then, will enter route discovery phase to find new routes. Finding a route in wireless network require considerable resources, such as time, bandwidth, and power because it relies on broadcasting. As the extension of DISTANCE algorithm presented in [3], Adaptive DISTANCE (ADISTANCE) is proposed in this paper. From simulation result it shows that the adaptive extension of DISTANCE gives ability to work in asynchronous communication network.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126566287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Maximum ratio combining is performed at the destination without considering whether the forwarded symbols from the relays are incorrect. We analyze the performance of different transmission power strategies at the relays and the source node. We investigate the optimal transmission power control strategy under a fixed total power constraint. Compared with the conventional transmission power distribution where the source and the relays transmit with the same power, the optimal strategy enables significant performance gain at the destination. With a given target probability of error, large power saving can be obtained at the relays. A near-optimal approximation to achieve the performance of the optimal strategy is also given in the paper.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126024492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All relevant protocols or radio access systems provide some techniques to deal with handover problems. The idea of cross-layer is proposed to facilitate handover across different layers. Most of previous research in cross-layer architecture uses SNR or RSSI as triggers to anticipate the layer 2 handover. However, there are problems with the consistence of real handover taken in layer 2 and anticipation handover in upper layers. Also the time point for trigger that sends to upper layers is very critical for fast handover in MIPv6. In this research, we propose a handover procedure combining 802.16e, FMIPv6, SIP, and 802.21 MIH, which ensures explicit handover between 802.16e wireless network and upper layers, to provide seamless service and without packet loss.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132190179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose an optimal superposition coding scheme and a very simple sub-optimal scheme. Then, we compare them with time-sharing schemes. Simulation results show that the superposition coding schemes perform much better than the time-sharing schemes because it uses much less transmit power at the same outage probability. In addition, the sub-optimal superposition coding scheme is close to the optimal superposition coding scheme in performance but with a lower complexity.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132415357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bad channel condition will produce many errors in the voice output and hence the voice quality. To maintain the voice quality in various channel condition AMR is used. Various modes of bit rate is used in AMR, from low to high bit rate is used depend on the channel condition. Low bit rate modes is used in a bad channel condition to allow more bits for channel coding, while high bit rate on the contrary. Recently various speech (source) coding techniques, such as: CELP, ACELP, RPE-LTP, are used in different applications. In this study the application of CELP in AMR is observed. MATLAB program simulation is used to observe and calculate errors occur in the system. The difference of resulted error produced in AMR using CELP is not significant. Researchers are still struggling to find an effective and lightweight method for anomaly detection purpose. In this paper, we propose a simple, robust method that detects network anomalous traffic data based on flow monitoring. Our method works based on monitoring the four predefined metrics that capture the flow statistics of the network. In order to prove the power of the new method, we did build an application that detects network anomalies using our method. And the result of the experiments proves that by using the four simple metrics from the flow data, we do not only effectively detect but can also identify the network traffic anomalies.","PeriodicalId":363625,"journal":{"name":"2008 5th IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks (WOCN '08)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132842106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different to the transversal modulator structure, where the Fabry-Perrot cavity is in the form of thin film layer Bragg Reflector, the modulator with waveguide structure is incorporating symmetrical Fabry-Perrot cavity with grating mirror. The advantage of waveguide modulator in comparison to the transverse structure one is the improvement on the on/off ratio and further being able easily to be integrated with semiconductor laser source and semiconductor amplifier, which are grown on top of the same GaSb substrate.
