The main emphasis is on understanding basic perceptual phenomena, such as the relation between physical stimuli and experience. To this end, we must consider: the nature of the physical stimuli, as described by physics; the anatomy and physiology of the sense organs and receptors; the neural paths from the receptors to the brain; how the brain processes sensory information; and attentional processes. Basic and applied issues are examined in the modalities of vision, audition, olfaction, gustation, and the cutaneous senses; psychophysical and other methods are also described. Specific learning objectives are given in lectures for each topic.","PeriodicalId":362794,"journal":{"name":"The Nature of Things","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128301006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
