Mobile ad hoc networks are an example of smart environments that are widely deployed in public spaces. They offer great services and features compared with wired systems. However, these networks are more sensitive to malicious attacks because of the lack of infrastructure and the self-organizing nature of devices. Thus, communication between nodes is much more exposed to various security risks, than other networks. In this paper, we will present a synthetic study on security concept for MANETs, and then we will introduce a contribution based on evaluating link quality, using ETX metric, to enhance network availability.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116441863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our system model consists of two communication paths, and the receiver uses the MRC combining scheme to combine the received signals through these both links. The first optical link consists of a source (S) and a destination (D) nodes communicating through a relay node (R), which receives the incoming information-bearing signal and forwards it to the destination (i.e. detect-and-forward relaying (Det-F)). Both (S-R) and (R-D) hops are operating under FSO link subject to Málaga-M turbulence model with the presence of pointing error. The second link is a direct RF link, connecting the source (S) directly to the destination (D), and is assumed to be subject to Rayleigh fading channel. We present in this paper the exact closed-form expression of the moment-generating function (MGF) of the total end-to-end SNR. Based on this result, we derive successfully the average symbol error rate of our mixed RF/FSO communication system using the MGF-based approach, in terms of either univariate or bivariate Fox's H-Function. All these derived analytical results are validated through computer-based simulation.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114886931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Developments focus on how municipalities can make these cities efficient where citizen's life is convenient, safe, and productive. Challenges in smart cities can be categorized in, networking and data processing and analysis, infrastructure development and resilience, citizen life and governance, and energy and buildings. Buildings constitute a key building block that will play a key role in developing smart cities. Residential buildings are used to develop our homes, commercial buildings are used for government services, as well as different industries. Buildings consume 50% of our energy and can be used to produce energy through rooftop solar energy. This position paper presents a concept of living a building, a building capable of behaving as if it is a living organism to achieve its objective in a sustainable way.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122608372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Equally interestingly, users are charged based typically on the amount of occupied storage space. Basically, this concept is meant to cut costs and improve the quality of healthcare services. Consequently, implementing cloud storage would help clients to manage their data efficiently. Besides, it allows users to outsource the storage process by using virtual storage systems instead of local ones. Despite its significant impact in healthcare domain, adopting this paradigm to save medical data on remote servers poses serious challenges, especially security risks. Currently, various cryptographic techniques have been used to ensure data confidentiality and to avoid data disclosure. Globally, this model uses traditional cryptosystems such as AES, RSA to address security issues in cloud storage. As far as we know, there are only a few works in literature that deal with availability and data recovery in cloud computing. In general, the classical approach which is based on backup or replication is not suitable for cloud environment due to the highly dynamic nature of this model. The intent of this work is to enhance the reliability of cloud storage in order to meet security requirements. In this study, we propose a novel method based on Shamir's Secret Share Scheme and multi-cloud concept to avoid data loss and unauthorized access. More precisely, this technique seeks to divide consumers' data into several portions using Shamir's Secret Share to prevent privacy disclosure. Based on these considerations, we store these created portions in different nodes to minimize security risks, particularly internal attacks. To sum up, this method is designed to ensure fault-tolerance, which is the main subject of this study. In fact, we need just certain shares to reconstruct the secret data rather than using all parts. The experimental results are in accordance with the theoretical assumptions behind this model, and hence, confirm that the proposed framework provides necessary measures for preventing data loss in cloud storage.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129672705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given that universities are very important electricity consumers, using an academic Microgrid will solve many problems regarding energy usage[1]. The purpose of this paper, is to describe Microgrid components with an emphasis on energy management (EMS). Given its vital role, the paper presents different architectures of an EMS and discusses how cloud computing can be incorporated to the Microgrid architecture to improve the EMS efficiency. The paper concludes with presenting results of EMS data collection using Kaa IoT platform.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130358585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People, organizations, intelligent vehicles, mobile robots, wearable and embedded devices, all can be connected by means of appropriate information and communication technologies. In recent years, the area of social networks became very popular mainly through the development of social media and Internet social websites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, ResearchGate, and many others. Graph theory offers suitable mathematical representations for social networking models. We describe in this paper some enumerative, stochastic and statistical tools allowing the analysis of time-varying social networks. Indeed, the study of social networks through the theory of random graphs and dynamic network analysis has enabled us to develop probabilistic and statistical approaches to calculate some indices and measures that characterize the dynamic behavior of such the networks through time.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"29 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120904820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accordingly, the fastest computer in the world increased its performance from one Gigaflop/s in mid-1980s to a projected one Exaflop/s by 2020. In addition, current hand-held devices such as smartphones have performance that rivals those machines of the 1980s. Due to hardware limitations, parallel computing became an integral part of our lives that it is hard to imagine a device that is not using multiprocessor power, including smartphones. What started as a hardware solution to physical limitation, prompted software engineers to adopt to parallelism, which also motivates the theoretical solution to algorithms design and analysis to provide a solution that is parallel oriented rather than a serial oriented one.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121397796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this sense, important features of Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks (CRAHNs) are presented. The main interest is given to spectrum sensing functionality. Thus, the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) technique and the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) technique are implemented. Obtained result exhibits good performance and high accuracy in Bluetooth spectrum signals detection using MUSIC technique. To reduce the gap between the simulations and real implementation, we propose a low cost node prototype for CRAHNs experiment, which consists of a radio platform and a host cognitive engine. It is carried out using 'USRP (Universal Software Radio Peripheral) and GNU-Radio' Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform, implemented on a single board computer. It ensures the development of CR functions undertaken locally by the users seamlessly work in an end-to-end multi-hop scenario.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131714725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of this paper is to assist decision makers in this process using time series analysis in a Moroccan city with a high urbanization and economic growth. For this, we study, select and evaluate waste production model using Box-Jenkins Methodology. The accurate SARIMA (Seasonal Auto-Regressive, Integrated, Moving Average) model is selected for monthly waste generation in Kenitra, Morocco, based on data from January 2005 to December 2015. The model obtained shows the presence of seasonality in monthly waste generation in this city. This model also conforms that monthly production of waste in the city of Kenitra, Morocco, depends on that of the previous month but also on the same month of the previous season. Accuracy of predictions is measured by Mean Absolute Percentage Errors (MAPE) which is equal to 6% in this case of study. Thus, time series analysis found to be adequate to predict waste generation in this north African city.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126734026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These new gadgets are in need to communicate and interact with each other for their proper functioning. Due to their easy implementation, the mobile ad hoc networks constitute the fastest and the most efficient way to establish connection in smart environments. However, in proactive ad hoc routing protocol, like the Optimized Link State Routing, maintaining the topology increases the overhead and consumes a considerable energy power. In smart environments, some terminals are battery powered. Designing efficient communication protocols is crucial to decrease the interferences, to enhance the performance of the network and to reduce the consumption of energy. In this paper, we use the node localization in the context of OLSR to select dispersive Multi-Point Relays responsible of broadcasting the topology into the entire network. We divide the environment into several virtual zones. Then we try to elect forwarders at different partitions to cover the maximum surface area in order to reach the greater number of devices. The simulations show that our proposal reduces at certain extent, the amount of traffic overhead, improves the network capacity and lets more bandwidth for the smart environment's applications.","PeriodicalId":362403,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Smart Digital Environment","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122181642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
