Therefore, fundamental computational problems of this new technology such as consensus, Byzantine fault tolerance and self-stabilization can not be fully looked into. In this work we use the principles of distributed computing to introduce a topological structure with the purpose of facilitating the study of the blockchain. Our model exploits classical topological tools used in the context of distributed systems to describe the evolution of a blockchain. Different assumptions on the input assignments, number of generated blocks and latency of the system are considered in our analysis. Furthermore, we define a probabilistic structure to enrich our model and to add also a predictive capability.","PeriodicalId":361947,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 24th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS)","volume":"37 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120934150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Active disks have a similar idea with active storage except utilizing the computing resources embedded in disk drives. Active disk-based storage systems have to evenly distribute data and workload among many storage devices so that we could efficiently use available resources to maximize system performance. We propose an efficient Segment Grouping (SG) approach in this paper. SG is a pseudo-random data distribution approach that is designed for active disk-based storage architecture. It is excellent at load balancing because it utilizes hash functions. Any party can independently compute the location of any data segment. SG efficiently maps segment objects to storage devices using the hash functions, and it only needs a compact and hierarchical description of storage devices in the active disk-based storage system. It only needs knowledge of the segment placement policy, and all the required metadata is little and mostly static. Our experimental results demonstrate that it is efficient and scalable by conducting performance evaluation.","PeriodicalId":361947,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 24th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116203301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, current voiceprint-based authentication systems are vulnerable to various replay attacks. To tackle the spoofing attacks, we propose a new system that leverages the structural differences between human vocal system and loudspeakers and use the unique vibration pattern of both human vocal cord and throat as a key differentiating factor for liveness detection. Specially, we model the relationship between voices collected by two microphones of a smartphone of each live speaker using sparse representation. Compared with existing systems, our solution does not assume any prior knowledge of the attack method and is easy to operate. Moreover, our solution leverages the audio signals within the vocal frequency range and is robust to jamming attacks using high-frequency audio. Experimental results show that our system can achieve accurate live ness detection for a 6-digit passphrase with a mean true acceptance rate of 99.04% and true rejection rate of 100%.","PeriodicalId":361947,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 24th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125173296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is because the resource demand of virtual network functions (VNFs) typically varies as a results of network flow volume. NFV elastic solutions by coarse-grained horizontal scaling or fine-grained vertical scaling have been investigated in recent years. However, none of the existing solutions can achieve both efficiency and scalability. To address this challenge, we propose elastic network service chain (ENSC), which utilizes a fine-grained hybrid scaling method to achieve both NFV efficiency and scalability. We systematically compare horizontal scaling with vertical scaling from six aspects and determine the priority within hybrid scaling. We formulate the resource allocation problem in the cloud datacenter as an integer linear programming (ILP) model and develop a heuristic algorithm called Rubik. Our evaluation results show that ENSC achieves higher acceptance ratios and resource utilization than horizontal scaling and vertical scaling methods.","PeriodicalId":361947,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 24th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133837840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially, resource distribution does not remain optimal given continuously coming flows with different characteristics. No quantitative approach is proposed to determine the timing to redistribute resources and functions while real-time adjusting network distribution is too expensive. In this paper, we claim an alternative approach to handle the resource-and-flow matching problem using the method of routing. We find a routing and evaluate its costs using our VNFs Routing Evaluation Model. We prove the NP-hardness of VNF - RE. While previous works focus on heuristic algorithms, whose performance cannot be proven, we propose a two phase approach and prove the approximation ratio. The problem is formulated as an optimization problem which jointly considers VNF covering, multi-resource consumption, and routing overhead. We prove that the problem is NP-hard and our solution 0 ((1 + (kD fmax / $D$ −1)β)) log3 $N$ log m) approximates the optimal where k, Dfrnax and β are variables that depend on the input flow. The simulation compares our work with several representative heuristic algorithms and shows that VNF - RE has better performance.","PeriodicalId":361947,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 24th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124967535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing research lacks an overall depiction of the cloud clusters' energy state. Therefore, the complex cloud system is reconstructed through the phase space to research the cloud energy from an overall level. Firstly, we propose an energy prediction model that considers the server node's context to predict the tasks execution energy on the node. Secondly, an energy phase space of the cloud system is established, including a static energy phase space that represents the current overall energy state of the cloud system and a dynamic energy phase space that represents the energy increment when the Cloud receiving tasks. Finally, a Phase Space-based cloud task scheduling Algorithm (PSA) is designed. The evaluation results show that PSA is superior to other algorithms in the scheduling performance, and the larger the cluster size is, the more obvious its advantages.","PeriodicalId":361947,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 24th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS)","volume":"330 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132872475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fusing the fuzzy locations from Bluetooth (BT) beacons with the ones from pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) comes out a promising solution to provide meter-level positioning without additional infrastructure. Despite the remarkable efforts the community put to build the system, it lacks the performance examination of large-scale deployments. In this report, we implement and deploy a real system in Guangzhou South Railway Station to enable a large scale indoor positioning service. The framework used Bluetooth beacons and pedestrian dead reckoning to calculate the estimated position of the user then refine the accuracy through a fuzzy fusion algorithm. We distribute up to 2849 beacons in the indoor space of 81654 square meters. When applied to the real ceiling with a height of 8m and above, our approach is still able to reliably achieve a high accuracy of 5 meters. Also in buildings whose outer walls are nonstructural but large glass curtain wall that wraps around the roof of the facility, the GPS signal could serve as useful complement under careful utilization; last but not least significant, in practice we incorporate our indoor positioning services into WeChat HyperText Markup Language (HTML) platform, we discover that the headings provided by HTML5 are not always correct, the orientation error scale has a strong correlation with the temperature of phone, the residual error is accumulated along with the time to make matters worse.","PeriodicalId":361947,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 24th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116853975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cosimulation of such a system would be very useful, but creating it is usually time consuming. By means of domain specific languages (DSLs) we support the fast construction of large co-simulations of IoT systems. This approach includes the use of CoHLA, a DSL that generates co-simulation code based on the HLA and FMI standards. Due to the large number of connected sensors and actuators in an IoT system, the time needed for simulation can be a blocking factor. Hence we facilitate distributed co-simulation in the cloud. To do that efficiently, we have conducted a set of experiments to analyse scalability and the performance impact of distribution methods. From these experiments, lessons were learned on how to distribute the co-simulation of IoT systems.","PeriodicalId":361947,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 24th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123382748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
