By combining technology and face-to-face instruction, the method of blended learning (BL) used in this study utilizes Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. In addition to the pre-test and scoring rubric of the CAR cycle, Live Worksheet is provided as a breakthrough to solve the shortcoming by executing the online interactive platform as a post-test (final evaluation). As a result, of the Live Worksheet implementation of the blended learning CAR method, 90% of students of a representative 10th senior grade class have increased their speaking motivation and confidence, with 3 out of 5 speaking skill elements such as grammar structures, fluency, and pronunciation showing improvement skyrocketed to 80 points, contrast to the low pre-test result of 60 points for each element.","PeriodicalId":361796,"journal":{"name":"Dialectical Literature and Educational Journal","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126678090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The story chronicles Boori Ma, a sixty-four-year-old woman who works as Durwan, the gatekeeper and sweeper in an old building. She is a refugee from the 1947 Partition between India and Pakistan. It also portrays the condition of a woman who is ‘naturally’ considered a second-class citizen in a patriarchal society. This paper uses qualitative research method to support the analysis. Gayatri Spivak, a prominent scholar, and critic in Postcolonial studies, describes the woman as a subaltern. The subaltern refers to a person who is excluded and silenced in society. Spivak concludes that subalterns cannot speak because of repressive power and domination. Boori Ma is the portrayal of a subaltern woman. She is the main female character who experiences quadruple discrimination in relation to her gender, age, capital, and identity. Ultimately, she remains voiceless and has no choice but to leave her house due to hatred and defamation from an elite group. This paper is expected to examine four categories of discrimination: socioeconomic, ageism, gender, ethnic, and culture, and its relation to injustice towards a subaltern woman. In conclusion, it is proved that the subaltern cannot speak due to the never-ending discrimination. The use of information and technology are mentioned as among the causes of problems for teenagers in Indonesia, such as; pornography, promiscuity, premarital sex, and low motivation to study. A positive parenting is needed to help adolescents build their resilience and self-esteem to deal with obstacles in their life. Previous research on parenting styles showed that parents who used strength-based parenting helped children to develop coping skills and increased self-esteem in teenagers. Strength-based parenting is used to identify and encourage teens to recognize and use their strengths in every aspect of their life. Thus, the current study was conducted to see this parental pattern's contribution to adolescents' resilience and self-esteem. The study was held on teenagers aged 11-18 from a family using Talents Mapping in Indonesia. Sixty responses were taken by using the Strength-Based Parenting Scale, Child Youth Resilience Measure-Revised, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Data is analysed using a regression test. The findings showed that the effects of strength-based parenting on a teenager's self-esteem are positive and significant. It was also found that resilience is positively related to youth's self-esteem. Furthermore, strength-based parenting and resilience are simultaneously positive and significant on teenagers' self-esteem, as 10.4%.","PeriodicalId":361796,"journal":{"name":"Dialectical Literature and Educational Journal","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122593592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This type of learning is necessary in many places where traditional classrooms are not possible or safe to attend. To examine the effects of the OFC model, this study used a quasi-experimental design. Moreover, this study aimed to identify English language students’ attitudes toward the OFC model of instruction. There were sixty-five students of classes XIC and XID at MAN 3 Palembang that were split into experimental and control groups randomly. The control group was treated with Blended Learning, while the experimental group was treated with Online Flipped classroom. Mixed-method design was carried out in this research. To ensure homogeneity and normality, both groups took a reading comprehension pre-test at the beginning of the study. After the experiment, the post-test was given to the experimental and control groups. The statistical analyses of independent samples t-test showed that the experimental group had better reading comprehension scores than the control group. The results of frequency analyses showed that EFL students in the experimental group had more positive attitude towards OFC model of instruction and agreed that it was helpful to them in many ways. It is suggested that OFC can be used as an effective methodology for teaching reading comprehension to EFL students.","PeriodicalId":361796,"journal":{"name":"Dialectical Literature and Educational Journal","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129085844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
