In order to make more successful prostheses, it is important to establish a relationship between patients’ complaints and clinical and radiological findings. The study was conducted with 90 patients between 2019-2020. The aim of this study was to compare the failure rates of the fixed prosthesis used by the patients according to the dental supported fixed prosthetic failure scale in terms of age, gender, clinical and radiological status, education level, duration of use, and prosthesis material. Methods: Failure classification in prosthetic restorations was made with Manappallil’s failure level scale seen in tooth-supported fixed prostheses. The SPSS v20 program was used to analyze the data. Categorical variables were presented as numbers and percentages while numerical variables were presented as mean and standard deviation. Relationships between numerical variables, student T test, Kruskal Wallis and Spearman correlation tests, and relationships between categorical variables were determined by a chi-square test. p <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: between moderate positive correlation between age and failure classes (p<0.001, r=0.39). It was observed that there was a significant relationship between duration of prosthesis use and failure classes (p<0.05). There was a low degree of positive correlation between age and duration of use (p<0.05, r=0.23). There was no relationship between the clinical condition and radiological findings of the patient and the education level and failure classification.","PeriodicalId":361768,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128129874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There could be multifactorial etiology with various factors such as maldevelopment of the brain, perinatal stroke, prenatal infection, genetic disorder, ischemic insult in utero or prematurity, thrombophilic disorders, teratogenic exposures, multiple gestations ,maternal fever, exposure to toxins, abdominal trauma, malformation of brain structures, abnormal fetal presentation, instrument delivery, hyperbilirubinemia, meningitis, chronic lung disease, shaken baby syndrome as the possible causes. The children inflicted with CP are at a higher risk for developing oral manifestations such as Early Childhood Caries (ECC) due to poor oral hygiene, intake of soft diet, difficulty in chewing and swallowing and increased use of sugary oral medications. Behavioural challenges due to associated mental retardation demands pharmacological management under General Anaesthesia (GA) and we present a case series of successful management of Severe ECC in five children diagnosed with CP managed with full mouth rehabilitation under GA. The aim is to highlight importance of counselling, preoperative preparation of patients, surgical modalities and postoperative rehabilitation.","PeriodicalId":361768,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114826755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This virus is of zoonotic origin and continued its spread through human-human transmission. One of the serious suspected route of transmission is through the droplets and also air which makes the dental professional highly vulnerable, who most commonly deal with saliva related treatments and to be therefore, more responsible in avoiding or reducing cross infection/ nosocomial infection. The evidence for this can be traced as far back as 1904, when Victor Hugo Jackson [1] provided us with the three primary aims and objectives of orthodontic treatmentFunctional efficiency, structural balance and Esthetic harmony. As the understanding of soft tissue limitations [2] of orthodontic treatment with respect to function and stability proceeded, the paradigm shift from hard tissue to soft tissue emerged as one of the most iconic events in the history orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning [3]. Face centered diagnosis, has therefore gained much popularity in recent years. With the advent of recent 3D technology, it has become possible to better visualize the face in all three planes to have deeper understanding of the demands and needs of every patient. The aim of this paper is to introduce a novel method of extra oral 3D scanning that can act as an adjunct to the existing diagnostic records already in place.","PeriodicalId":361768,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"96 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120874274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, the role of infection associated inflammation in oral cancer gained much attention [1-3]. Recent past epidemiological evidence, facilitated the emergence of poor oral hygiene as an independent risk factor for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) [4-6]. Periodontitis is the most devastating outcome of poor oral hygiene [7]. In several epidemiological studies, periodontitis reported to be associated with increased risk of OSCC [8-12]. Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the periodontium with polymicrobial aetiology [13]. Interestingly, carcinogenic attributes of two periodontopathogenic bacteria Fusobacterium nucleatum [3] and Porphyromonas gingivalis [3] have been investigated by number of in vivo and in vitro experiments. Promising evidence has been obtained, thus inhibition of apoptosis, activation of uncontrolled cell proliferation, promotion of cell migration/ invasion as well production of carcinogenic virulence factors reported to be responsible for oral carcinogenesis [3]. Evidently, these two periodonto pathogens have been associated with oral, pancreatic and colorectal (CRC) cancers by facilitating chronic inflammation and suppressing immuno surveillance [3].","PeriodicalId":361768,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134021470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Any conservative treatment that can delay or eliminate future prosthodontic problems should be considered. Complete and partially edentulous patients are generally unsatisfied due to the inherent instability of dentures during functional and parafunctional movements which results due to the lack of adequate supporting hard and soft tissues. Inspite of rapid development and good success rate in the field of implantology, preservation of remaining natural teeth or roots is more desirable which supports Devan’s dictum. Overdenture is a complete or partial denture prosthesis supported partly by soft tissues and partly by retained natural teeth or its roots or implants. Overdenture increases the retention, stability and support, improves the masticatory efficiency, preserves the alveolar bone and muscular patterns and preserves sensory receptors within the periodontal ligament which increases manipulative skills in handling the denture. Retention and stability of overdentures can be improved by attachments or magnets. Fixed partial denture is not an option when there is no distal abutment. The solution of such a critical situation is to give combined or hybrid prosthesis. A combined prosthesis carries the advantage of fixed removable prostheses without surgical intervention, where an acrylic prosthesis is retained with an extra coronal attachment to tooth. This paper presents a twin patient report of rehabilitation of a mandibular and maxillary terminal dentition with a combined prostheses of acrylic retained by extra coronal precision attachment system (Rhein 83, Italy).","PeriodicalId":361768,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124781896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Bovine incisors were ground and cut into six groups (n=10) of cubic samples, set in resin cement such that a single square surface of facial enamel was exposed in each sample. These enamel surfaces were polished and treated, with a group assigned to each of three 5% sodium fluoride varnishes (BISCO, 3M ESPE, GC America), a fluoride foam (Dentsply Sirona), a fluoride gel (Crosstex International, Inc), as well as a water control group. After application of product, the samples were agitated at 37°C before removal of product by potassium hydroxide solution (10mL, 1.0M, saturated with calcium phosphate). A layer of exposed enamel was dissolved in each sample with perchloric acid (2.5mL, 1.0M) which was then neutralized with sodium hydroxide. The resulting solution was buffered in TISAB II and measured for fluoride content by ion selective electrode (ISE), which was adjusted for sample surface area. Results: Enamel each group the following mean values and standard error: 8.32±0.44 μg/cm 2 , 2 , and 4.04±0.20 μg/cm 2 in the BISCO, 3M ESPE, and GC America varnishes, 6.52±0.64 μg/cm 2 in the fluoride foam, 7.03 ± 0.51 μg/ cm 2 in the fluoride gel, and 1.59 ± 0.11 μg/cm 2 in the control group. When in contact with tooth enamel, topical fluoride treatments including varnishes, gels and foams can induce fluorapatite by chemically incorporating fluoride in the tooth structure. This enamel fluoride uptake can be measured and compared to guide clinicians on the relative efficacy of different fluoride treatments. Results demonstrated here show that the BISCO varnish has a statistically higher EFU compared to other tested products.","PeriodicalId":361768,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114495621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, it is generally accepted that operating theatre staff has to wear respirators. A respirator is a personal protective device that is worn on the face, covers at least the nose and mouth, and is used to reduce the wearer’s risk of inhaling hazardous airborne particles (including dust particles and infectious agents), gases, or vapors. Further the respirators used should be an unvalved Filtering Facepiece respirator (FFP2, that has no exhale valve) in operatory of clinical and hospital setting [2].","PeriodicalId":361768,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125057675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Postoperative pain is very common and its prevalence ranges between 3% and 58% of all endodontic patients and they usually evaluate postoperative pain as a skill criterion of the clinician. Postoperative pain is multifactorial and observed as a result of acute periapical inflammation in response to chemical, mechanical, and/or microbial damage of the periapical area during the endodontic treatment. Therefore, patients should always be informed that pain may be experienced after the procedure and clinicians should follow up-recent studies about the factors that may cause pain, and if possible, adapt clinical procedures accordingly.","PeriodicalId":361768,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114417901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
