Research in this area has important implications for the professional support work of practitioners such as coaches, trainers and sport scientists (Woods et al., 2020). Ecological dynamics is a contemporary, transdisciplinary theory of motor learning, expertise and talent development in sport, which investigates dynamic person-environment interactions as the relevant scale of analysis for understanding human performance. Influenced and shaped by key ideas in biological, physical, social and anthropological sciences, an ecological perspective conceptualises athletes and sports teams as complex adaptive systems. An ecological perspective helps sport scientists to characterize the functional relationship that emerges from the continuous interactions of the individual athlete, task and environment, which is vital for understanding skill adaptation and talent development.","PeriodicalId":36150,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Human Movement","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75574000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An elite cyclist was scanned on the racing bicycle, wearing his competition gear and helmets. Numerical simulations by Computational Fluid Dynamics were carried-out at 11.11 m/s (40 km/h) and 20.83 m/s (75 km/) to extract the drag force. The mechanical power and energy cost were estimated by analytical procedures. The drag force were between 9.93 N and 66.96 N across the selected speeds and helmets. The power to overcome drag were 182.19 W and 1121.40 W. The total power lower and higher values were 271.05 W and 1558.02 W. The energy cost estimation was between 106.89 J/m and 381.40 J/m across the different speeds and helmets. The standard helmet imposed higher drag and demanded more power.","PeriodicalId":36150,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Human Movement","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85458186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modification of some variables simultaneously implies several physical adaptations in soccer players. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the differences in the physical demands encountered by soccer players in different SSGs formats focusing on the scoring methods (i.e., mini-goals and regular goals with goalkeepers) and to the numerical superiority situations (i.e., no superiority, variable superiority, and fixed superiority). Eight elite young soccer players from the same team (age: 17.9 ± 1.1 years) randomly completed six SSG formats. Physical parameters (i.e., total distance [TD], distance covered at different speeds [D1, D2, D3, D4, D5 and D6], and distance covered accelerating [ACC] and decelerating [DEC]) were collected. The main results showed that the variable superiority (i.e., 4vs4+1) situation is more demanding, in terms of TD and distance covered at D3 and D4, in comparison to no superiority (i.e., 4vs4) and fixed superiority (i.e., 5vs4) situations both SSGs played with mini-goals and regular goals with goalkeepers. Besides, higher physical demands were registered in fixed superiority (i.e., 5vs4) than in no superiority (i.e., 4vs4) situation. Finally, only in a no superiority (i.e., 4vs4) situation higher distances at D1 and D5 were registered during the SSG played with mini-goals but higher distance at D3 was covered in the SSG format with regular goals and goalkeepers. Playing SSGs in variable superiority situation is more demanding in comparison to no superiority (i.e., 4vs4) and fixed superiority situations both during those SSGs played with mini-goals and/or regular goals and goalkeepers. In addition, SSGs played with mini-goals induced higher physical demands than playing with regular goals and goalkeepers during no superiority games. These findings could be useful for coaches in order to periodize the training drills within the microcycle to modulate the training session intensity.","PeriodicalId":36150,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Human Movement","volume":"212 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83429450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
