This work addresses the problem of redeploying software components affected by a hardware failure, while respecting several runtime constraints. In contrast to existing approaches, we do not only compute a new feasible system configuration, but make use of AI planning in order to derive a sequence of concrete deployment and undeployment actions that achieve this state. We also distinguish between application of every intermediate plan found and the single application of the final plan. These two plan application strategies are described and evaluated along with our novel solution approach.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114998248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, disparate tourist information and service resources such as airlines, hotels, tour operators, etc., make it difficult for tourist to use them effectively when planning their trips and/or during their trips. Motivated by the emerging technologies of multi-agent information system (MAIS) and its ability to aid Internet and mobile users, together with semantic Web that can effectively organize information and service resources. In this paper, we propose a virtual travel agent system (VTAS), which is built upon these technologies. In this paper, we formulate a scalable, flexible, and intelligent MAIS architecture for VTAS with agent clusters based on a case study of a large service-oriented travel agency. Agent clusters may comprise several types of agents to achieve the goals of the major processes of a tourist's trip. We show how agents can make use of ontology from the semantic web help tourists better plan, understand, and specify their requirements. We further illustrate how this can be successfully implemented with Web service technologies to integrate disparate Internet tourist resources.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"165 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122053032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a novel technology for NASA's ANTS missions, named as model-driven autonomic computing. As the foundation for the technology, a new model is constructed for the ANTS system. Exceeding other existent models, the new hierarchical model overcomes the challenges of largeness, complexity, dynamicity and unexpectedness possessed by the ANTS system. Then, the paper exhibits the structure and functions of virtual neuron that is basic unit together with the model for the model-driven autonomic technology in ANTS missions. The paper also deploys self-configuration, self-healing, self-optimization and self-protection for ANTS. A case study, examples and simulations are illustrated.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125992947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whereas, an important problem in the cluster scheme remains seldom studied, that the cluster heads depletes energy very fast and the rotation strategy of the cluster head is needed to prolong the system's lifetime. In this paper, the cluster head rotation problem is studied with the dynamic programming method. An energy first cluster head rotation strategy is proposed and is proved to be the optimal in the means of the cluster lifetime. Further, the upper bound and the lower bound of the cluster lifetime are derived based on the law of conservation of energy. We show that the optimal strategy is not unique, which can be accomplished in different ways. Based on the analysis, a practical, LEast-rotation, near-optimal cluster head rotation algorithm (LENO) is proposed to practice the inner cluster rotation. The validity of LENO is verified with the node level simulation tool PowerTOSSIM. Near optimal cluster lifetime is obtained as desired, which is much better than the performances of Leach and EDAC etc.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126788677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While new protocols such as DiffServ and MPLS allow some amount of traffic prioritization, guaranteed QoS requires admission control and dynamic resource management. Over-reservation has the advantage of infrequent variations but leads to wastage of resources. Under- reservation, on the other hand, does not meet the QoS expectations of the user flows. In this paper, we consider the architecture based on SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) over MPLS to provide control admission. In this architecture, we propose a new method to reserve optimally the bandwidth of an LSP (Label Switched Path), avoiding an excess of bandwidth renegotiations on the basis of prediction of future traffic.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123337370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Commonly, the broadband access and enterprise networks involve devices with dynamic NAPT(NAT) and statefull firewalls functionality. Keeping open connection behind such an intermediate device is not a trivial task. The intermediate device closes the connection without sending any notify to participants. Until proactively detaching the change of connection status, all send packets get lost. Most applications involve deed-peer-detection mechanisms to verify the host availability, thus if the connection is active. The fast detection of connection lost is vital for the application and therefore short constant dead-peer-detection intervals are used. The update interval is a tradeoff between the network resources and fast detection of disconnection. The interval values are currently constant and set based on the general network experience and application requirements. In this paper is suggested a new framework for dynamic optimization of the update intervals in respect of fast disconnection detection and low network resources. The key idea is to make the update interval proportional to the probability of connection drop. The main issue is that the time point of disconnection can only be narrowed down to certain update interval, the exact time point can not be determined by the hosts. The proposed solution is based on adaptive Fuzzy Logic. The simulation results are presented to verify the performance of the new method. The optimization is relevant for wide spectrum of applications, like VoIP, routing, security protocols etc.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126553500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Not only should it satisfy delay requirements but power minimization and QoS issues should be handled carefully also. Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are more sensitive to these issues where each mobile device acts like a router and thus, routing delay adds significantly to overall end-to-end delay. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the warning energy aware cluster head/virtual base station-on demand (WEAC/VBS-O) protocol, proposed earlier by one of the authors, in terms of average delay, multihop communication and power minimization aspects subject to video traffic. We use H.263 standard to model video traffic in our simulation design. Primarily, we establish a single hop communication between nodes. It is then extended to multihop communication. However, we find that the protocol can support up to 2 hops for an acceptable network performance provided there is a significant number of nodes in the network. We also take power minimization issue into consideration and minimize power consumption by making use of HCB model by applying it within the neighborhood of the node. Simulation results show that this strategy does minimize power consumption and it does not degrade multihop communication improvement. We finally show that the protocol is quite suitable for video traffic as it fulfils delay and other necessary requirements for a typical ad hoc network.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"C-23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126478588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this mode advanced applications can subscribe to state- space event based feed from network protocol local end- points by interactive version of the network protocols. This enables a whole new range of high performance extensible adaptation which requires low-time constant feedback. In this paper, we show how classical TCP can be extended to support long delay high capacity pipe. We demonstrate a system that mimics FAST TCP however, without the usual extensive reengineering required by the original. It seems matching performance can be achieved with protocol interactivity.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116068361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proportional differentiation model (PDM) constitutes currently one of the main proposals for the next generation Internet and adds one more possibility for application adaptation. This paper investigates the PDM, situating it along other existing service proposals and presents the window based waiting-time priority (WBWTP) packet scheduling algorithm, which enables to reach the proportional differentiation model objectives with higher accuracy than the traditional waiting-time priority (WTP) and proportional average delay (PAD) algorithms.","PeriodicalId":361109,"journal":{"name":"21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA '07)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115303687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
