Methodology: Cross sectional observational study carried out during the period from July 2016 till June 2017, 387 cases were recruited in the study from those who developed 1ry PPH. All data concerning cases were recorded including personal, obstetric, medical history, details of medical services received, complications and maternal mortality. Analysis of data recorded was done to determine factors associated with worse maternal outcome (morbidity and mortality). Results: 387 cases developed 1ry PPH (either managed in or referred) to hospitals of Minia Governorate (two secondary hospitals and one tertiary hospital) during the period of the study. 87 cases were excluded due to incomplete records. 1y PPH was common in MG 53% , residents’ rural areas 63.7%, patients not booked for ANC 59.7% and anemic patients 67.9%. Bivariate correlation of factors that worsen maternal outcome showed positive correlation between maternal complications and maternal age, parity, residence (rural areas), distance between residence and hospital (far), positive history of medical problems (anemia), blood transfusion and number of blood units. Maternal complications developed in 13.3%, coagulopathy was the most common 37.5%. 9 cases developed maternal mortality (3%) most common cause of death was irreversible shock 44.4%. Conclusion: Factors that worsen the maternal outcome in patients who developed primary PPH are residence in rural areas, decrease awareness of ANC importance, high parity, advanced maternal age, prevalence of anemia and decrease number of well qualified hospitals.","PeriodicalId":360290,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Women's Health","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131279974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tetanus claims tens of thousands of deaths annually with majority of the deaths occurring in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Safe delivery practice is one of the strategies for elimination of MNT and it can be achieved if delivery is handled by a skilled health worker that have adequate knowledge on the care of the umbilical cord. Methods: This study which is a descriptive study that covered 62 high risk Local Government Areas (LGAs) is aimed at determining the delivery practices and cord care practice of Women of Child bearing Age. (WCBA) in sixty–two Local Government Areasin the six States of Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi in Nigeria that were involved in the three rounds of tetanus toxoid vaccination campaign as part of the Nigeria’s Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus Elimination program from 2014 to 2016. Results: A total of 23,860 households were visited by enumerators in all the 1,860 selected clusters surveyed across the 62 high-risk LGAs of the 6 States. Eligible respondents were found in 13,020 of these households (54.6%).Most of the respondents were wives of the household heads, Christians (83.9%), educated with majority attending secondary school (53.8%), employed with majority doing petty trading 30.9% and located in predominantly rural LGAs (74.4%). Across the 62 LGAs, 84.8% of respondents had their delivery handled by doctors, nurses/midwives and CHEW while 76.7% had their delivery handled by doctors and nurses/midwives. On cord care practices the survey results showed that on the average, only 3.1% of women used chlorhexidine with Ebonyi state recording the highest while 79.0% of respondents used methylated spirit for cord care. Conclusion: Sociocultural factors such as maternal education, financial preparedness, marital status, religion has been shown to be strong determinants of Skilled Birth Attendants (SBA) use. SBA usage has a direct effect on maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination as such government is encouraged to support the promotion of formal education for women and women empowerment and autonomy.","PeriodicalId":360290,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Women's Health","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122032205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is one of the early noticing ways of breast cancer which involves the woman herself looking at and feeling each breast for possible mass, discharge, swelling, dimpling, and other abnormalities. Objective: To assess the knowledge and practice of breast self-examination among female undergraduate students at Addis Ababa University, College of Health Science. Method: Institutional based cross-sectional study was conducted among female undergraduate students in which departments were selected by using a lottery method and a simple random sampling technique was used to select 214 female students from each department. Data was collected by using a selfadministered, structured questionnaire from April to May 2022. The data was entered into Epidata and analyzed by Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) window software. Result: A total of 214 respondents were enrolled in the study giving a response rate of 100%. About 133(62.8%) of respondents had a good knowledge of Breast Self- Examination and Breast Cancer. Nearly half 106(48.5%) of the study participants have practiced breast self-examination at least once in their life. There were three main reasons for not doing the examination. Conclusion: This study discovered that more than half of the study participants have a piece of good knowledge about BSE. However, the vast majority of study subjects never engaged in BSE. The concerned bodies should create awareness about breast self-examination.","PeriodicalId":360290,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Women's Health","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131422186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, lasers have a prevalent place in the skincare world and are used to treat a wide variety of skin conditions. Lasers were first used in dermatology in 1963, and although the technology was groundbreaking at the time, laser treatments were still slow and painful for patients. We look at how lasers have evolved since then to make skincare treatments more effective and result in less side effects. In particular, we focus on why fractional carbon dioxide lasers have become so popular in recent years. Although lasers in skincare have developed considerably in recent history, we also explore opportunities for growth and further advancement. Although lasers sound like a modern innovation, the origins of lasers used in skincare today go back more than 100 years. The technology has advanced drastically since lasers were first used, and today they are a popular and effective tool to treat skin conditions.","PeriodicalId":360290,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Women's Health","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133050788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In exercise therapy with whole body vibration, studies with other patient groups show positive effects already after a single application. In stroke patients the effectiveness of whole body vibration is still quite inconsistent. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the effectiveness of whole body vibration on processing speed in stroke patients. Hypothesis: Whole body vibration has a positive effect on processing speed in stroke patients. Methods: 13 stroke patients (age 68.23 ± 8.93 years, mean time past since stroke 10.82 ± 8.83 months) were randomized in two groups subjected to whole body vibration at 6 and 12 Hz, respectively. Before and after the treatment of 5 x 60 seconds with a break of 60 seconds between each set, the Digit Symbol Test was performed. Results: Both groups improved their performance significantly from pre- to posttest (F(1,11) = 15.85; p = 0.002). There is no difference between groups and no interaction effect for factor time*group. Conclusions: Even lower application frequencies (6 and 12 Hz) can have a positive effect on the processing speed of stroke patients. Nevertheless, further studies must try to develop an optimal training protocol for this patient group.","PeriodicalId":360290,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Women's Health","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128820224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes and identify the age of natural menopause and its associated factors based cohort study in Iran. In this study, we used data of Bandar-e-Kong study. This prospective cohort study includes 2,334 woman’s aged between 18 to 70 years old, which was conducted from March 2016 to February 2019. All women completed data collection forms includes a validated questionnaire survey. Data were analyzed using chi-square test, independent t test, and ANOVA as well as a multivariate linear regression model. The total of participants with the age range of 18-70 years, 894 were menopause females. The mean age of menopause was 48.31 ± 6.34 years with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 66 years. The number of pregnancies, duration of breastfeeding, level of education, residency, presence of thyroid disease, and body mass index affected the age of menopause. This study suggests that number of pregnancy was associated with menopausal age. According to the results of this study, the existence of appropriate educational programs to promote awareness and lifestyle in postmenopausal women is essential.","PeriodicalId":360290,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Women's Health","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127792432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, their relationship with Programmed Cell Death-Ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression is not very clear, particularly for Hainan Aboriginal patients. Herein, this research aims to reveal the relationship between PD-L1 expression and intrinsic molecular subtypes of breast cancer. Methods: 225 breast tumor samples from female patients were analyzed for PD-L1 expression using the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) method. The PDL1 expression level was detected by IHC and the relationship between the expression and clinical parameters was analyzed statistically. Results: Positive staining of PD-L1 was mainly found in the plasma membrane. In all cases, the positive rate was 12.0% (27/225). The PD-L1 expression level was significantly reduced in Luminal A subtype (the corrected ratio OR=0.15, p=0.04) whereas increased in HER2-positive subtype (OR=4.2, p=0.01). PD-L1 was significantly related to HER2-positive subtype (p<0.05) and histological grade 3 (p<0.05). There was statistically significant association between PD-L1 expression and metastasis (p=0.046), but not with the patient’s age, the tumor stage and menstruation (p>0.05). Moreover, there was a significant difference in the frequency of intrinsic subtypes between patients with positive and negative PD-L1 expression (p<0.001) among patients with metastasis. Conclusions: PD-L1 expression in breast cancer was positively correlated with HER2-positive subtype, higher pathological grade and metastasis of breast cancer, while negatively correlated with Luminal A in female patients in Hainan, China. PD-L1 may be a new independent marker to predict the prognostic factor in HER2-positive subtype breast cancer.","PeriodicalId":360290,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Women's Health","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130902602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early diagnosis and management can considerably decrease the risk of neonatal sepsis, and improve the outcome. This study aimed to determine trends and the risk factors associated with neonatal sepsis at Ruhengeri Referral Hospital from 2018 to 2019. A total of 1220 neonates’ medical files were reviewed. Data were recorded and analyzed by using SPSS. Logistic regression analysis was used to estimate factors associated with neonatal sepsis, 5% was considered as significance level. Results showed that the majority of neonates 57.4% were females, 53.9% of neonates had 0-7 days while 46.1% had more than 7 days of birth. The total cases of neonatal sepsis from January to December 2018 were found to be 207 with an average of 17 cases per month whereas there were 165 cases from January to December 2019 with an average of 14 cases per month. Research findings revealed that rupture of membranes (AOR=3.6; 95% CI: (1.34-4.76); p<0.001) and prolonged labour (AOR=1.5; 95% CI: (1.12-2.43); p<0.001) were associated with neonatal sepsis. Vaginal delivery and no history of urinary tract infection were protective factors to neonatal sepsis occurrence. The study also observed that the majority of the neonates had early onset of sepsis (<7 days). Hence, encouraging mothers to use antenatal care services might help identify the risk factors and possible interventions to reduce the risk factors of adverse birth outcomes including neonatal sepsis.","PeriodicalId":360290,"journal":{"name":"Austin Journal of Women's Health","volume":"18 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132339677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
