Quantitative research design with descriptive survey research method was utilized for this study. Sample of the study consisted of 518 students selected through stratified random sampling technique. Learning Needs Questionnaire (LNQ) (Ho & Lim, 2021) was used to collect data from the students of different degree programs. It was found that there was a statistically significant and moderate correlation among students’ perspective on all four factors of LNQ. There was no statistically significant difference in the responses of distance and online learners on all the factors of LNQ with respect to region, province, academic performance groups, employment status and age groups. There was a gender, semester and program wise difference among students on the factors of LNQ. It was suggested to offer informal and formal guidance and information sessions to the distance and online learners by the departments and the tutors to cope up with the problems they are facing in their learning process. \u0000Keywords: Learning needs, distance and online learners, university students, instructional process","PeriodicalId":359050,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Peace, Development & Communication","volume":"51 40","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141339433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Focusing on the Kashmir issue, a central bone of contention between Pakistan and India, the researcher explored how newspapers framed this issue and it's relationship with foreign policy and media. The selected news papers for analysis were Daily Dawn, Express tribune (English), Daily Jang and Daily Duniya (Urdu). Utilizing theoretical frameworks of Agenda Setting and Framing, the study categorised editorials into favourable, unfavourable and neural perspectives. Employing a non random convenient sampling technique. The study analysed daily editorial coverage on Kashmir during the specified period. The findings indicated a consistent framing pattern across all newspapers, addressing topics such as the right of self determination, human rights violations, political victimisation and legislative actions in IoK. Notably, Urdu newspapers alloted more space to the Kashmir conflict compared to English newspapers aligning their narratives with respective governments and national sentiments. For this reason, some states implement broad definitions of terrorism authorizing preventive action, even so no crime is committed. In contrast, there are states which adopt narrow definitions of terrorism to safeguard due process rights of the suspects. While this approach may be more humane, it undermines the ability of states to act in anticipation of a terrorist attack. Clearly, the emphasis of the former strategy is to preserve national security even at the cost of civil liberties. In reverse, the latter approach aims at preserving civil liberties despite the threat of terrorism. Recently, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has re-defined terrorism to narrow down its scope, making it applicable to those acts only which are motivated to coerce a government or intimidate a civilian population to advance a religious, sectarian and ethnic objective. In furtherance of the new interpretation, these courts will be trying only most serious cases, such as those involving attacks on state infrastructure or state personnel. Apart from these, all other acts will be deemed regular crimes for want of motive to commit terrorism. This article will elucidate whether states driven by national security concerns define the word terrorism broadly criminalizing even the preparatory acts, such as, making donation to the charitable arm of a designated entity. The study was carried out in the Faisalabad district, and 104 convicted criminals out of a total of 210 were interviewed using a multistage sample technique. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the judicial system's effectiveness and efficiency in delivering justice and facilitating a smooth legal process. The findings showed that convicts were sentenced in accordance with current legislation and in proportion to the crimes they committed. It also exposed serious flaws in the system, which had trouble effectively managing its workload. The institution had acceptable technical proficiency, but a number of roadblocks made it ineffective. These obstacles included widespread political influence and corruption, a high workload, outdated methods, a lack of expertise, and equipment limitations. A persistent culture of bribery, a lack of educational institutions, and a dearth of programmes for vocational training and rehabilitation were shown to make these obstacles worse. The study's conclusions show that these issues have severely impacted Pakistan's present criminal justice system. A thorough approach to systemic improvements is necessary to ensure that the criminal justice system is effective and capable of efficiently and impartially dispensing justice. It encourages anti-corruption measures, capacity training, significant investment in cutting-edge techniques, and rehabilitation programmes as a means of systemic reform.\u0000Keywords: Role of Judiciray, Criminal Justice System, Pakistan, Trial, Legislation, Criminals","PeriodicalId":359050,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Peace, Development & Communication","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122655890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike men women are more prone to violence. Studies show that aggression and violence practiced on women may be categorized as the origin of gender-based violence. These findings unequivocally show that violence is closely tied to gender inequality and the unequal allocation of power in society, both of which lower women's standing and make them less equal to males. Being a woman in such a patriarchal and culturally constructed society entails the danger of being exposed to all types of threats and abuse. Case examples are used in this qualitative research to demonstrate the thorough investigation. Depending on how men and women relate to one another, which dictates the level of power exercised, gender-based violence can take many different forms.
