Success of the industry depends upon production facilities and the competitive advantage that the industry gains because of better quality and reliability. Today, most of the production strategies are influenced by quality, cost, delivery, innovation, and responsiveness. Firms have traditionally pursued these goals through adoption of production practices, such as simultaneous engineering, increasing efficiency through elimination of defects, setup reduction etc., and worker empowerment. This work presents a model based on multi criteria decision making (MCDM) analysis.","PeriodicalId":358376,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Competitiveness","volume":"04 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130010202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, within the EU defence sector several instances of circular economy principles were already in practice thereby improving operational resilience. With the adoption of multiple legislative measures since the 1990s, the EU has accepted greater responsibility in sustainability and resource productivity to its member states, beginning with the 1994 Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste to the energy and climate targets of Europe 2020. In November 2016, the EU Commission moved forward with the European Defence Action Plan, including provision to introduce/transpose circular economy principles to defence. This article presents the findings of an exploratory study originally undertaken as an assessment for the European Defence Agency. The investigation captures practices in the defence sector that exemplify circular economy principles and highlights the significance of the findings.","PeriodicalId":358376,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Competitiveness","volume":"288 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132807888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Those who support the importance of this concept argue that it is based on concerns about the level and quality of jobs, quality of life, wages and revenues, technological development, among other topics regarded the dynamic of the economic development. The debate on the validity of the concept of competitiveness when applied to nations does not set off the development of a new set of metrics that would enable countries to assess the actors that induce competitiveness. To fill this gap, this article aims to present an alternative methodology for measuring national competitiveness. This methodology seeks to measure the drivers of competitiveness, which improve capabilities in a country. It is understood capabilities as the central element for developing countries seeking to foster the competitiveness of its economy.","PeriodicalId":358376,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Competitiveness","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128977543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Johansen's cointegration approach and vector error correction model (VECM) served as the methods of analyses. The results indicate that, in the absence of strong institutions, trade openness is more beneficial to growth than competition. While in the presence of strong institutions, competition is more beneficial to economic growth than trade openness. This suggests that within the Nigerian context competition and trade openness are substitutes for promoting economic growth.","PeriodicalId":358376,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Competitiveness","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133156183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
